    Think-a-Bunch Elementary School Library Technological Plan

    Think-a-Bunch Elementary is a K-5th grade elementary school. There are 100 students in eachgrade level and each grade level has 4 classes/ teachers. The library is a large for the school andhas a wonderful book collection of over 30,000. The staff in the library is the library media

    specialist and a library assistant. Fortunately, parents volunteer on a daily basis. Every schoolday, a parent or two, volunteer their time from 9 am to 2 pm.

    Assistive Technologies

    An assistive technology assessment uncovered a need for a device for students with upper bodyphysical disabilities that need assistance interact with a computer in general, for example aprogram that recognizes verbal commands.

    Vision

    Think-a-Bunch Elementary Schools Library Technological vision is to support the continuousimprovement of teaching and learning through the use of technology. The technological teamsvision is to achieve a quality of learning, instruction, communication and operations through theoptimal utilization of technology.

    Over the next three years the technological plan will breakdown by school years.

    The library currently has five digital cameras, 4 laptop computers, 4 assistive technology devicesfor hearing and vision impaired 10 desktop computers, and 4 laptops, 2 camcorders, 2 printers.The technology team would like to upgrade all digital cameras over the next three years, onecamcorder, and replace some desktop computers to laptops, as well as, acquire a softwareprogram (unless available for free) that assists students with disabilities interact more with a

    computer and other software that aids in learning.

    Year 1, the Technology Team will list goals from the 2006-2009 plan, evaluate previous plan,detail goals success, or reasons for continuation, or issues for preventing its success. List andsupport goals that continue from the 06-09 plan. Modify goals or write new goals to meet theneeds identified from assessments. Add to goals the specific objectives for integratingtechnology to improve student academic achievement. Include a timeline for integration and theevidence that goals and objectives have been achieved. Provide the anticipated costs andfunding plan for the next 3 years for the technologies to be acquired and expenses such ashardware/software, upgrades, etc.

    Currently, there is $575.00 available in the library technology fund. Year 1 expenditures will befor upgrades ($300.00) and a digital camera/ camcorder ($275.00).

    Year 2, the Technology Team will re-evaluate goals, needs assessment, and current technologicaladvancements. Funding opportunities have taken place over the last few months. Schooltechnology contribution $500., PTO contribution $500., a fundraiser $500., and a grant $1000.,for a total Library Technology fund equaling $2500.

    $350.00 to assistive technology for disabled students.Two laptops for $750.00 each.$650.00 in software.

    Year 3, the technology team will re-evaluate goals, needs assessment, and current technologicaladvancements. The same amount of money is available, $2500. During needs assessment andre-evaluation, it was determined to get the NanoProdigy Program that orbs students from onelocation to another. The cost, $2000.00, the rest of the money will go to networking costs.

    Evaluation

    Think-a-Bunch Elementary School Technological Plan will include formative and summativeevaluation. The tech team will form, construct the plan, and implement plan, review goals andfunding, ongoing needs assessment.

    The summative evaluation will be by a representative body of the school of 50 individuals. Fivedifferent committees will be formed; training sessions planned, evaluations of training,suggestion, and needs assessment.
