By: Sara Fukuhara& Melissa Onishi
STARS
• Huge, Shiny ball in space
• Produces light & other forms of energy
What are the made out of?
• Made of plasma (hot gas-like substance)
• White dwarfs & Neutron Stars: tightly packed atoms or subatomic particles
Characteristics
• Brightness (Luminosity)• Color• Surface Temperature• Size• Mass
Brightness
• How much energy it emits
• Based on Luminosity of the sun
• Ex: Alpha Centauri A is 1.3 times that of the sun
Color
• Depends on surface temp
• All stars emit a broad spectrum of colors
Mass
• Measure in solar mass
• Stars may have similar masses but different densities.
Life Cycle
• Protostars• Main Sequence
Stars• Red Giant• White Dwarf• Black Dwarf• Super Giants• Supernova• Neutron star
