Qeshm is also known for its distinctive culture and people. There are two ways to reach Qeshm. Iran is not the most obvious destination for skiing. However the northern Alborz Mountain range includes a large proportion of Iran’s peaks that exceed 4000m and the region boasts snowfalls of up to 7m. The Alborz range’s main resorts are just a short drive from Tehran, the capital. There is fairly reliable skiing from late November to mid-March but in favourable years it’s possible to ski from early November until May.

Dizin Ski ResortDizin is among the best and most popular of Iran’s ski resorts. It is one of the world’s forty highest resorts and has one of the highest ski lifts (reaching 3,600m/11,800 ft). Dizin’s climate encourages prolonged periods of powder snow making for superb skiing and its altitude often facilitates a longer skiing season compared to most other resorts in the northern hemisphere. Its variety of runs appeal to both beginner and experienced skiers though its altitude and gradients mean experienced and professional skiers are particularly well catered

for. Snowboarders are also very welcome.Dizin’s ski season is not limited to the winter months as it has excellent grass-ski facilities. Our 10-day Ski in Iran tour can easily be tailored for just a long weekend of skiing in Dizin plus visiting Tehran’s highlights. Another option for those seeking a ‘winter sun’ holiday is to take more days skiing before heading to balmy Qeshm Island in the Persian Gulf for warm weather, water sports and easy-going relaxation.

Important note regarding skiing:Ski equipment - although it can be hired in Dizin we recommend bring your own skiing gear.Bad weather and possible changes to itinerary – Land of Turquoise Domes (LoTD) will not be responsible for the consequences of severe weather conditions which may cause the closure of ski resorts or ski lifts. Day 3 Tehran to ShahrudEarly morning drive to Shahrud (405 km) early in morning. Visit this former Silk Road city and its suburban Bayazid Bastami

9-days itinerary

The critically endangered Asiatic

cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus

venaticus), also known as the

Iranian cheetah survives mostly

in the northeast & east-central

regions of Iran in Semnan, Yazd

and North Khorasan provinces.

Cheetahs differ in many respects

from other ‘big cats’.

Apart from their non-retractile

claws, they have very long slender

legs and do not climb. Their pelts

have solid black spots on a buff to

slightly tawny body.

Their physique is distinct and they

are smaller than the other ‘big

cats’.

The Iranian cheetah is slightly

smaller than its African cousins.

Their legs are shorter, their coats

thicker and their necks are more

powerful.

Distinctive “tear stripes” stretch

from the corners of their eyes

to the sides of their nose. Their

bellies don’t have spots but their

tail spots merge to form four to

six dark rings. The tail usually ends

in a bushy white tuft.

Male cheetahs are slightly larger

than females and have a slightly

bigger head, but it is difcult to

tell males and females apart by

appearance alone.

Since cheetahs rely on sight for

hunting, they are diurnal – much

more active in the day than night.

In warm weather they move

around mostly during the early

morning and late in the afternoon

when temperatures are cooler.

Khar Turan National Park (also

known as Touran Wildlife Refuge)

covers an area of approximately

14,000 square kilometres and has

a variety of habitats including

three extensive plains at different

altitudes (ranging from 700 to

1400m), a saline river system,

three mountain systems rising

to a maximum of 2200m and vast

expanses of sand including shifting

dunes.

This tour will appeal to wildlife and

nature enthusiasts and is designed

to operate with a maximum of ten

guests.

There are regional variations, too, regarding the use of fruits and pastes in various dishes: from plums, pomegranates and quinces to prunes and apricots. Saffron, dried lime, cinnamon, mint, turmeric powder, salt and pepper lend added flavour.
