Major proposed changes: review & overview

• “5 core areas” replaced with specific competencies

defined for all MPH students

• Redefinition of SPH requirements

• 3 MPH

• 2 doctoral

• SBP curricular criteria integrated in SPH & PHP criteria

• Changes in methods of “counting” faculty resources

• Flexibility in practice experience requirements for MPH

• Greater definition for DrPH

• Vastly reduced reporting burden in research, service, etc.

Major changes between rounds 2 & 3 of comment

• Reduced # of required MPH & DrPH foundational

competencies & updated content

• Clarified criteria that elicited comments/questions

• MPH practice experience

• Tracking post-graduation outcomes

• Adjusted faculty resource requirements

• Fewer restrictions on double-counting

• Added “Foundational PH Knowledge” for MPH & DrPH,

separate from competencies for each

Some emerging consensus during round 2...

• Consensus on many areas

• Identified priority areas for continuing discussion

• # of required SPH degree offerings

• Evaluation & outcomes

• Faculty resources

• MPH, DrPH, MS, PhD & other grad curricula

• All criteria open for comment in round 3, though priority

areas are intended focus

Next steps

• Stay tuned in early July for next draft!

• Next comment period in summer to

early fall—likely due date in mid- to

late September

• Anticipated release of criteria &

implementation plan in late Oct –

• Implementation plan will explain

what you need to do & by when

• Past experience suggests 1st SVs

with new criteria will be in 2018,

but nothing decided yet!

comments

coming!
