History of the Tablet• 1989 – GridPad is first released.
– considered the first Tablet Computer, it inspires Jeff Hawkins to create the Palm platform.
• 1992 – Apple releases the Newton, coins the phrase “PDA”.• 1996 – USRobotics releases the Pilot running Palm OS, name later
changed to Palm Pilot.• 1996 – Microsoft Releases Windows CE 1.0
– Microsoft’s first OS for mobile devices.• 2000 – HP Releases the iPaq Pocket PC
– “Pocket PC” comes from Windows CE 3.0 Pocket PC Edition– iPaq product line becomes the longest running and highest selling PDAs
of all time.• 2007 – Apple relases the iPhone, its first entry into mobile
computing in over 14 years.• 2010 – Apple releases the iPad, and the tablet age is born!
