A Word from Our Principal:
Dr. Kacy Seals
Our students have been practicing for a performance in remembrance of Maya Angelou and her poem entitled,
“Still I Rise.” This poem is sentimental and special in many ways. It is the representation of the courage and strength
that our young people demonstrate daily. It is the metaphor for their own personal journeys. The challenges that our young people face are stepping stones for what
the future holds for them. Encouraging and supporting our young people to rise in the midst of challenges is our
charge. The CVPA staff is committed to serving our young people by pushing them beyond their limits academically
and socially. We thank you for trusting us in helping to shape and mold your young person: one student at a time.
(Excerpt from “Still I Rise” by Maya Angelou)
Out of the huts of history's shame I rise
Up from a past that's rooted in pain I rise
I'm a black ocean, leaping and wide, Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.
Leaving behind nights of terror and fear I rise
Into a daybreak that's wondrously clear I rise
Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave, I am the dream and the hope of the slave.
I rise I rise I rise.
Central Artists at Shaw Art Fair
For many years, CVPA visual artists have taken part in the
historic Shaw Art Fair. Mr. Perry and his students
have a booth and sell original artwork. For the last few years, the entry gates to
the fair have also been designed and created by
Central artists. This year, the Visual Artists were joined by their peers from the
Drama and Instrumental Music departments. CVPA musicians
entertained fair goers on the
main stage, and theater students
created live versions of
famous works of art. It was
exciting to see so many talented
Eagles representing our school pride in
the community!
CVPA Students Star in Coca’s wUNDERland
Congrats to Advanced Dancers, junior, Joshua Hall and freshman, Charlie Anderson for their leading
roles in COCA’s original performance of wUNDERland, a
modern retelling of Alice in Wonderland.
Joshua played the Redd King, and Charlie was the Mad Hatter in
eight hip-hop-filled performances. So
proud to have two of our own in such an
impressively entertaining show.
