1 When Time-Travelers from the Future Finally Reach Us When time-travelers from the future finally reach us, they won’t come to learn our secrets, because they already know them, remembering what we have yet to experience. We are they, after all, before we become what they are. It would make no more sense to interview an infant about a life yet unlived. Nor will they come to us to reveal the end of our story in order to change it. The laws governing such matters surely preclude that. No, I think that, knowing the end of our story, which is their own story before it is over, they will merely pause to wonder at all we endured and all we did, and gaze on us silently, whether in awe or terror, I cannot say. —Darrell Schweitzer
