Wheels Make a Difference
Have you seen someone waiting at the bus stop with bags of food? Walking along busy streets carrying heavy bags? Or trying to balance bags on a bicycle? One mother told me she can feed her family for two days by walking instead of splurging on a taxi to get home. The next time you jump in your car to run an errand, think what it must be like to have to plan your trips without a car. One of the real joys we have at NFCC is to give someone "wheels". One young mother wrote to thank the donor of a car:
"I can't express how much I appreciate you donating your car. We have had such a hard time getting around prior to getting it. Thanks to people like you, that helps people like me get back where I need to, do to my husband's job loss. Having 2 teen girls and

A Family Challenge from the Allen Family
My name is Baileigh Allen and I am a Mom to three wonderful kids - Channing (11), Addie (10) and Griffith (9). I try very hard to instill a sense of service in my children through both my words and actions. This past holiday season, as we were talking through ideas regarding the food drives at school, we decided, as a family, that we were going to switch things up a bit in our household. We committed to providing food to the food bank YEAR ROUND...not just in November. We talked about how people need food in their bellies year round, not just at the holidays. So we took the numbers 1-10 and put them in a hat, and we drew out the number 8. Each child wanted to participate so we decided to multiply that number by 3. So each month during our first visit the grocery store, each child picks 8 cans of food apiece to donate to the food pantry. This way we feel like we are doing our part - however small, to contribute, year round. It's not much, but it's something. We are very blessed to have food on our table each night and this is our small way of showing some gratitude and

Stamp Out Hunger
Food Drive Returns
Plan now to volunteer at the
23rd Annual "Stamp Out
Hunger" Food Drive
sponsored by our Letter
Carriers on Saturday, May 9.
This is the largest one-day food
drive in America when food
left at the mailbox is picked-up
by the letter carrier. NFCC
volunteers will be needed at
our five area post offices to
meet the mail trucks coming
off their routes, pack and
transfer the food to NFCC
trucks.

giving to others so that they may have the same. I would challenge other families to consider some similar tradition - make it a new year's tradition, a tradition to start on their birthday or just a neat idea to start with their families so that they aren't living in a vacuum. It's easy to not think of these things when our bellies aren't the ones grumbling. Just a thought.
Baileigh Allen
Meet our neighbor. . .. . Ann. Ann came for help with her mortgage. She has lived in her home in Johns Creek for 25 years recently working a contract job as a project marketing manager with a pharmaceutical company. When the contract ended in December, she applied for unemployment but the weekly benefit does not even cover her mortgage, let alone her other living expenses. She is actively attending numerous job networking groups and is working with a recruiter. Ann rapidly depleted her savings and has no family or other support to turn to and is beginning to panic. NFCC assisted with half of the mortgage this month, set her up with a job coach and will follow her in this journey. She left with food and feeling a little better.

NFCC Staff Working Together
Our NFCC staff recently spent the day at the Ed Isakson/Alpharetta YMCA for some brainstorming and team building. A very fun, productive and uplifting day and only a few minor bruises to take home.

NFCC is a Drop Site for ShoeBoxes
United Way of Greater Atlanta is celebrating the 10th year of its annual Shoebox Project! Each year, individuals and organizations throughout Greater Atlanta donate shoeboxes filled with toiletries, including toothbrushes, toothpaste, lotion, deodorant and lip balm, which are distributed to women and children at homeless shelters throughout the 13-county region United Way serves. The campaign runs March 1 to May 1, 2015. Shoeboxes will be delivered by FedEx to more than 100 agencies on Mother's Day. Last year, more than 44,000 shoeboxes, valued at $855,000, were collected and
