Chisholm Catholic College member of
Staff, Marnie Jarvis, has generously
devoted a great deal of her time to printing out for us the hundreds of sets of
assembly instructions which go away with each new model wheelchair.
Much appreciated, Marnie.

A WORD FROM THE C.E.O. Over the last few years it has been great to see the increasing willingness of
more volunteers to take the initiative and responsibility for furthering our
project.
Apart from those stalwarts such as Bob Sheridan and Ted Melvin, we have
the technical progress group, responsible for honing the new wheelchair
design, past volunteer Tony Blackmore for pushing the initial changes,
Chris Oates who introduced us to Movies by Burswood, Cathy and Nicole
Cutler for seeking government grants and ending up getting a kitchen
donated, Don Kidson for attending a training/presentation session in East
Timor, David Shepherd for taking responsibility for our strength and
durability testing, Noel Watson for instigating and procuring our
computerised drilling machine., Bob Izett for sitting on our management
committee..Beppie De Kuyer for jumping in to so many opportunities. There
are many more that warrant a mention. Please keep it up and get
involved when you see the opportunity.
“Movies by Burswood” has again produced an outstanding return.
$127,569, this means that 1,000more children will now be given a much
needed wheelchair. This thanks to the support of our workshop volunteers,
friends and Rotary members .
Assuming and we trust that we will be once again selected as a charity
partner for the coming season, we will again need volunteers. Volunteers
attend one evening a fortnight through the summer season commencing
in December. Family members, particularly younger ones, would be
welcomed. Unbelievably, each volunteer last season earned us $150 per
hour for their attendance.
Rotarian Neil Darch and Tish have again volunteered to take on the
tremendous task of organising and handling day to day changes to the
volunteer schedule. Also, the distribution of the very profitable Movies by
Burswood value cards. Please contact Neil if you can help.

The Rotary Club of Scarborough has again set aside $30,000 for our
overheads and we wait with fingers crossed for the usual state government
rent grant. Responsibility has this year been transferred from
the Premier to a government department. Gordon

THE DUBAI CONNECTION
Dubai is well known for its glitz, glamour, wealth and extravagance and yes you will see more Rolls Royces, Lamborghinis and Ferraris drive past in five Dubai minutes than you will see in three Perth lifetimes.
That said, apart from all the materialism and show Dubai also has a very generous side with many wonderful people willing to provide support for those less fortunate than themselves.
Over the past ten years various Dubai organizations and individuals have supported Wheelchairs for Kids to the tune of about $160,000. One organization in particular, the United Arab Emirates Nautical Institute, has contributed $120,000 including a recent donation of $6500.
It was about eight years ago when the Nautical Institute kindly decided to adopt our W4K project as their major charity objective. The funds donated to W4K are raised through an annual ball organized in a five star hotel by the Institute for its members and friends.
Thanks to friends at Emirates Airlines we were able to fly one of our wheelchairs to Dubai for placement in the hotel foyer to remind attendees (of the ball) where the proceeds of their evening were being directed.
In spite of competition from many worthy causes the Nautical Institute have remained loyal to our project throughout. And last year one of our volunteers, Glyn Ashley, made a point of visiting Captain Adil D Moos (Hon Treasurer of the Institute) to offer the sincere thanks of everyone here in Australia.
On behalf of about 1600 children, we would like to say
“THANKS DUBAI FOR A GREAT JOB”
