Each year Music for Everyone provides a season of intensive, short courses, both choral and instrumental, for children and young people as well as for adults. It also leads a wide range of regularly rehearsing groups. The Summer School is an extension of Music for Everyone’s successful weekend music courses. These follow a similar format to that of the Open University: people from all parts of the community enrol on an open access basis and receive ‘distance learning’ packs which support their independent preparation for the event. Music for Everyone is a dynamic arts organisation based in Nottingham. Formed in 1983, it is committed to creating opportunities for singers and instrumentalists of all ages and abilities to make music and experience the exhilaration of high quality, live performance.

Each year Music for Everyone provides a season of intensive, short courses, bothchoral and instrumental, for children and young people as well as for adults. It alsoleads a wide range of regularly rehearsing groups.

Tutors and guest workshop leaders and recitalists Workshop sessions will be led by Music for Everyone’s artistic team: Angela Kay,Victoria Barlow, Gill Henshaw, Ellie Martin, Ann-Marie Shaw and Phil Smith.They will be joined by the highly talented professional choir Blossom Street, celebrated violinist Owen Cox and brass duo Simon Baker (Trombone) and TimThorpe (French Horn). Accomplished pianist, Richard Cox will be our repetiteur.

Professional choir, BlossomStreet, is a highly versatile andvibrant chamber choir comprisingsome of the UK’s best youngsingers. They perform regularlyon TV and radio as well as on the concert platform and have released two critically acclaimed

CDs on the Naxos label. Directed by Hilary Campbell, a graduate of the RoyalAcademy of Music, the group was formed in 2003, while many of the singerswere undergraduates at the University of York.

Owen Cox is an experienced violinist who has held numerous positions in British orchestras, including the Cityof Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and BBC National Orchestra of Wales (principal). He has been a member ofseveral quartets performing all over the globe. He is a dedicated teacher and is currently Assistant Head ofStrings at Chetham's School of Music and Honorary Lecturer at the University of Nottingham. Owen hasrecently written a PhD about a late Beethoven String Quartet.

Brass Duo, Simon Baker and TimThorpe have years of experience playing in top professional orchestrasincluding the CBSO, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, London SymphonyOrchestra, the RPO plus as sessionmusicians in top West End Shows.

Music for Everyone’s 2018 Summer School willbe a wonderful opportunity to immerse yourselfin quality music-making in a stimulating, friendlyenvironment.

This year we are delighted that Trent College ishosting our Summer School. The excellent facilities, rolling parkland, excellent transportlinks and on site parking make this the perfectlocation for an inspiring musical experience.

This year we have chosen music inspired by‘The Americas’. From Sousa’s Liberty Bell toGershwin’s Summertime, Eriksson’s atmospheric To the Mothers’ of Brazil to the moving last movement for soloists, choir and orchestra from Bernstein’s masterpieceCandide. Add workshops and recitals given by top professionals and you have a wonderful three days of music making.

The Summer School ExperiencePlaying or singing, develop your music-making through a series of workshops andrehearsals led by our expert and friendly tutors, exploring a range of repertoire, bothchallenging and fun. You will receive copies of the music about four weeks in advance.

All workshops and rehearsals start at 10am with registration on Monday between 9.30 - 10am. Rush hour recitals on Monday and Tuesday start at 5.15pm and last foraround an hour. The Summer School Showcase Concert will take place early Wednesday evening followed by a farewell buffet (approx. 7.30pm). A detailed timetable will be sent out with the music packs.

Be part of the social buzz. Extended breaksgive you time to chat to tutors, browse thestands and enjoy the college grounds. A welcome ‘drink and nibbles’ on the first dayand a ‘farewell buffet’ after the Wednesdayevening Summer School Showcase Concertalso gives plenty of opportunity for people to getto know each other in a relaxed social setting.

The Summer School fee of £95 covers all tuitionplus tea and coffee in the mid-session breaks,Monday ‘drink and nibbles’ and the ‘end of Summer School’ buffet. It is possible to purchase(if booked in advance) a two course hot lunch oneach of the 3 days at a total cost of £125. Or ifyou prefer to picnic, the surrounding parkland isideal. Trent College is also able to provide B & Baccomodation for the duration of the SummerSchool, please indicate on the enrolment form ifyou would like details.
