1 | Page Wheat Daily Report September 24, 2019 Market Updates: Domestic: India wheat central pool stock down by 4.81%. Wheat stock in central pool as on 1st September’19 stood at 414.90 lakh tonnes down by 4.81% compared to last month. This quantity is higher by around 7.74% compared to last year for the same month. Government has already applied import duty on wheat to curb imports and provide support to domestic prices. Therefore, government has abundant supplies this year to tackle any unexpected rise in wheat prices by selling more quantity in open market. India Govt. wants to dump excess food grain in Africa. FCI storages are spilling from excess food stocks and the new Kharif procurement season is only a month away. Union government was mulling over selling excess food grains to some African countries before the new Kharif procurement season starts next month. There is a plan under consideration to use food grains as diplomatic tools for African countries like Ghana, which is a net food importer. Ghana is a model country for the rest of West Africa in terms of governance and trade. If Ghana will start importing our food grains, other food-deficient countries on the continent like Nigeria, Cameroon, Namibia, Mauritania, Mali and others will follow suit. A new trade agreement between India and Ghana as well as other African countries is yet to be signed. FCI godowns were spilling over due to excess buffer stocks. In the month of August, 2019, the total buffer stock was 71.1 million metric tonnes, which was double the food stocking norm of around 36.1 MMT. In the month of July, the food stock was more than double than the prescribed norm. The stock of rice was more than 2.5 times than the norm whereas wheat was 1.84 times the given norm. Rajasthan Govt sought increase in wheat ceilings. Rajasthan government has sought to increase the ceiling limit for wheat under food security act. In view of the increase in population an additional 26000 tonnes of wheat is required. The existing ceiling is for 4.46 crores beneficiaries whereas the requirement is for 4.82 crores beneficiaries. International: Bangladesh tenders to buy 50,000 tonnes of wheat. Bangladesh’s state grains buyer has issued an international tender to purchase 50,000 tonnes of milling wheat. The deadline to submit offers is Oct. 6. The grain can be supplied from any worldwide origin except Israel. Offers are sought on CIF liner out price terms for shipment to the ports of Chittagong and Mongla. These terms include a range of port unloading costs for the seller. Shipment is sought 40 days after the date on which the contract is signed. The country’s last reported wheat deal on July 30 showed that Bangladesh purchased 100,000 tonnes of wheat from Russia in an inter-state agreement. Bangladesh has turned to the Black Sea region for wheat in recent months as supplies from India have dwindled due to the country’s need to meet its growing domestic demand. The strong demand for wheat in Bangladesh reflects a shift in consumer preferences towards bread, partly as a substitute for more expensive rice. Canada ups 2019/20 wheat ending-stocks. Total wheat ending stocks for 2019/20 raised to 6.100 million tonnes, from the August estimate of 5.500 million. That compares with the 2018/19 wheat carryout of 6.184 million tonnes. Brazil’s tariff-free wheat import quota to be implemented in November. Brazil plans to introduce a 750,000-tonne tariff- free quota for wheat imports from countries outside of the South American Mercosur trade bloc in November. The agriculture ministry’s assistant secretary for trade and foreign relations, told an industry conference that enforcing the new tariff -free quota could help Brazil add new suppliers, including the United States and Russia. Brazilian millers’ association Abitrigo welcomed the new quota, which was announced as part of a series of measures to open up Brazil’s economy and increase the country’s share of global agricultural trade. Australia cuts wheat production forecast by nearly 10%. Australia trimmed its wheat production forecast during the 2019/20 season by nearly 10% as prolonged dry weather across the country's east coast wilts production. Market Updates:

Domestic: India wheat central pool stock down by 4.81%. Wheat stock in central pool as on 1st September’19 stood at

414.90 lakh tonnes down by 4.81% compared to last month.

FCI storages are spilling from excess food stocks and the

new Kharif procurement season is only a month away.

Rajasthan government has sought to increase the ceiling limit

for wheat under food security act.

Bangladesh’s state grains buyer has issued an international tender to

purchase 50,000 tonnes of milling wheat.

Total wheat ending stocks for 2019/20 raised to 6.100 million tonnes, from the

August estimate of 5.500 million. That compares with the 2018/19 wheat carryout of 6.184 million tonnes. Brazil’s tariff-free wheat import quota to be implemented in November. Brazil plans to introduce a 750,000-tonne tariff-

free quota for wheat imports from countries outside of the South American Mercosur trade bloc in November. The agriculture ministry’s assistant secretary for trade and foreign relations, told an industry conference that enforcing the new tariff-free quota could help Brazil add new suppliers, including the United States and Russia. EU's Jul 1-Sep 8 wheat exports up 27% on year; Algeria back as top importer. Wheat exports from the

European Union reached 4.6 million mt in the new marketing year period of July 1-September 8, up 27% from a year earlier. EU 2019-2020 marketing year began on July 1 and will end on June 30, 2020. However, the pace of weekly exports slowed down in the week to September 8, with total wheat shipments reaching 202,492 mt, compared with 727,270 mt shipped a week earlier. Romania continued to be the bloc's top exporter, with wheat shipments hitting 1.5 million mt in the marketing year-to-date period.

US net export sales of wheat in latest week fall to 10-week low. US net export sales of wheat in the week to

September 12 slumped to the lowest in 10 weeks, falling 53.1% to 286,589 mt from a week ago, led largely by a reduction in sales to unknown destinations and the Philippines.

The wheat delegation members first stopped in Portland. TFMA and President of Formosa Oilseed Processing Co., Ltd., the parent company of Top Foods Flour Mills, signed the wheat letter of intent along with U.S. Wheat Associates (USW) President Vince Peterson. The letter states that TFMA intends to purchase a total of 1.8 million metric tons (equivalent to 66.1 million bushels) of U.S. wheat between 2020 and 2021. The value of these purchases is estimated to be around $576 million.
