35th Anniversary Celebration 5A Tina Tang, 5B Amy Chen

It is officially LKKC’s 35th birthday! To celebrate this special occasion, the 35th Anniversary Show was held on 6th January in Tuen Mun Town Hall. Under Secre‐tary for Education Mr. Yeung Yun Hung, senior officials of LKKC, as well as par‐ents were invited to attend this memorable event. Speeches were made and wise words were spoken. The audience was also rewarded with the wonderful performance by our schoolmates.

Performances

The celebration began with “The Prayer” by our school choir and String Or‐chestra, followed by “Entrance of the Queen of Sheba” by the String Orchestra. Next were Chinese and English solo and choral speaking performances. After‐wards, the Cantonese Opera performance by Wong Cheuk Ki blew everyone’s mind with her brilliant singing and zuoshou skills. Saxophone solo and piano duet performances followed before the English drama act “The Travel Agency”, which was performed by Form 2 drama team members. The winners from the

Performing Arts Competition 5D and 5E brought their performances to life

on stage again. Afterwards, the anniversary film “梁中奇緣” made its debut,

followed by interview clips with some alumni sharing their achievements and favorite moments in LKKC. Then came the astounding performance by our school’s Chinese Orchestra. The event ended with all teachers and stu‐dents engaging into a chorus with the Chinese Orchestra as an accompani‐ment.

In Performers’ Words

We can see that all the guests, teachers and students were impressed by all the amazing performances from the applause. The performers’ hard work and dedication could be reflected by their high quality. We took our chance and in‐terviewed some of the performers about their preparation and feelings.

“We received our scores in early October and we had been practicing since then. We spent a long period of time practicing and even longer time synchro‐nizing different parts. We were practicing after school almost every day and we also needed to come back during weekends. But I am satisfied with our per‐formance as I can see our hard work has paid off on stage,” says Angel Lee, a member of the school’s Chinese Orchestra. “Mr. Yau helped us out a lot during our practices. We wouldn’t have done so well on stage if it hadn’t been for him.”

“It took us around a month to produce the anniversary film,” says Form 5

student Liam Li, who plays the main character in “梁中奇緣”. “It is enjoyable

and an intriguing experience throughout the production. The scene I like most is when my character got slapped. It was actually really awkward but we all had a good laugh.”

In Art Students’ Words

Let’s not forget about the glamorous banners designed by our Form 5 Art stu‐dents. Not many people took notice of the decorations but when you do have a look at them, you will be im‐pressed by the detailed outline and the way the colors were picked and coordinated.

“We started working on the designs for covers, section pages, and headers for the anniversary edition book as well as the school banners in July, 2015. We spent most of our time during the summer holiday in Art

Room sitting in front of the computer working with a graphic design soft‐ware,” says Cindy Wong. “We were still working on outlines, colorings and some final touches during the Christmas holiday.”

Sylvia Wong says, “We put in a lot of time and effort in this. We were all exhausted having to work for such long hours and it was such a relief when we finished all the work. When we received the printed sample, we were all very happy and proud that our effort had not been in vain.”

The anniversary edition file is designed by Fion Lau from 5C. She, as well as the others, started designing since the summer holiday. “A lot of amendments were made while designing. I had to change the colors and the size of the objects multiple times but I think the final outcome was very satis‐fying. I bought 4 files while my sister bought 12!”

Exclusive Interview with Mrs. Yau

The show was a huge success thanks to all the teachers, staff and students that contributed to this event. Our school Assistant Principal Mrs. Yau put a lot of work in planning and organizing and decorating. We had the honor to interview her about what she thinks of the overall performance and about the years she spent in LKKC.

Among all the acts, she liked the Cantonese Opera performance the most. “Her performance really surprised me. I was impressed by her confidence and the effort she put into practicing.”



She also commented on the short film which was produced for the anniversary show. “All the members of the production team tried their best to do the re‐cording. The director of the film Moon Cheung was an alumnus. He is currently studying in CityU. Even though he had a tight schedule, he was still willing to squeeze time to help with the film production. I appreciate his sacrifice and con‐tribution. I want to thank the CMPT team as well. Although the members were not experienced, they were really helpful during the production,” said Mrs. Yau. She wanted the film to be impressive. “That is why I am involved in the film, you

know, to achieve that goal,” she joked.”Nobody knew I play basketball. All the schoolmates were shocked when they saw me playing in the film. I want to prove that nothing is impossible in our life.” She also demonstrated one of LKKC’s spirits: try our best.

When asked about the obstacle she faced while executing the core ideas of our school, she said, “Starting from the grand opening of LKKC, we are trying to involve students in different activities. We provide many op‐portunities for students to find their self‐confidence. Different types of activities are introduced to students in the hopes of leaving them unforgettable and important memories. We also create different platforms, such as Sports Day and Performing Arts Competition, in order to bring students’ talents into play. Some students told me that students from other schools were not able to perform on stage actively. However, LKKC provided many opportunities for them to do so and it helped develop their acting skills.

“As time went by, however, it’s sad to see that some students do not treasure the chance to study in LKKC. We provide a lot of time and effort to counsel students but some of them refused to complete their studies here and chose to leave, though, few came back and shared their regrets. They told me it was silly of them to have had made the decision to leave. They felt sorry for not valuing the chance they once had.”

At the end of the interview, she reminded all LKKCers to value the chances provided by our school and try to take part in activities both in and outside of the school. She also stated that we should remember the morals of our school and that she wished to see all the best of us.

Congratulations to LKKC!

Once again, congratulations to our school for the 35 years of establishment. Throughout these 35 years, LKKC had made great progress and achieved huge success. Our anniversary performance day was marvelous. It truly is an honour to be a LKKC student. Here we wish LKKC to strive for even greater success and let the stu‐dents shine. I believe we all would agree that LKKC is our home, and we love her forever.

THE AFS INTERCULTURAL FAIR 5D Joyce Ng, Rachel Wong The AFS Intercultural Exchanges celebrates cultural differences with over 1500 local primary and secondary

school students and teachers. Exchange students from all over the world, including Brazil, Argentina, Austria,

Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Japan and so on, showcase their unique ways of living, festivals and

history in this special event. The AFS Intercultural Fair lets Hong Kong students meet their counterparts from

countries around who have joined the exchange scheme.

On Sunday morning of 28th November, we gathered at the school gate and took our ride on a coach. We were

given a package of souvenirs, including a passport for collecting stamps of different countries. With endless gos‐

sip and laughter on the bus, the half‐hour journey to Maryknoll Fathers’ School in Kowloon seemed shorter

than it actually was. We got ready to greet the foreign students when we saw the eye catching ‘AFS intercul‐

tural fair’ banner.



After attending a briefing session in the school hall, people started running upstairs, where the classrooms were located. Foreign exchange students had prepared games and beautifully deco‐rated their rooms, filling them with their national flags, patterns and cultural elements. We first arrived at the French stall. We learned a few French sayings and greetings although we could‐n’t recall any of them now. The French students were very passionate that we danced and wrapped our arms around each other’s shoulders. We also signed on the card, showing our empathy and support to the terror attack in Paris. Later we visited the Japanese booth. A Japanese girl shared some words and photographs of Japanese culture. Her English was un‐expectedly good as she was able to pronounce the ‘R’ pronuncia‐tion well, instead of ‘L’, which was a more common sound in Japa‐

nese.

After that, we travelled to a country in South Europe‐‐Italy. Stepping in the room, the first thing that impressed us so much were the drawings on the blackboard. The blackboard was filled with drawings of Italian culture and

some famous things that pop up in people’s mind first when they think of Italy, including Leaning Tower of Pisa etc. A pack of passionate Italians taught us to sing and dance with some useful vocabulary, such as sleepy, superman, punch and so on. Most of us couldn't pronounce them well and they assured us that it was normal as we couldn't curl up our tongue as they were trained from childhood. Despite that, we still had a good dance with those girls.

We also went to Germany and played games with the Germans. We played games simi‐lar to the games that we played in Hong Kong, but with different names. The most im‐pressive game was a game we call ‘grab a chair’ in Hong Kong. We were divided in groups of fruit names in German and when we heard our fruit name, we had to rush to sit on another chair. It helped us to remember the names of fruits.

We also went to Iceland, Spain, and many more other countries. We had lots of fun with those foreigners and at the same time we were exposed to lot about different cultures

and languages of different countries. Unfortunately, many classrooms in the school were packed with people and we had to wait for a long period outside each classroom. Therefore, we didn't go through all of them though we did enjoy our time there.

Let’s Get Personal!!!! 5C Angela Tse, Carrie Chan LKKC has always been a big family where we share our joy and excitement together. In this issue, as men‐tioned in our topic, we are getting personal with some of our teachers who have stepped into parenthood this year. We are honoured to have a short interview with the following dads and mom , and we hope that you all will together feel their glee.

Mr Lam Chun Wing:

I feel blessed to have a new member in my family. Taking care of a new‐born baby isn’t easy, and there is a lot to learn to make sure he gets total care. I also feel very thankful because my family members help me to learn how to look after him especially when I don’t actually have much time to sleep. Though he doesn’t laugh or smile a lot, he is very cute, especially when he beams with satisfaction after he gets full.

Mr Hung Wan Kwong

Shing Hin is my second son, and it is very exciting to have him here with us in the family. My elder son, Shing Yeung, is even more excited than me about having his little brother. Sometimes when Hin Hin cries, I will

tell Yeung Yeung “ look, your little brother is crying again”. Whenever I say that, Yeung Yeung will reply that Hin Hin is still young and just a baby, so it is unavoidable that he will cry very often. He will even ask me to be more considerate. I feel very happy that Hin Hin is here, and I am glad that both of them

will have each other in their lives.

Mr Fong Ho Nam

I am grateful to have a new family member, I am also very happy to have him and thankful to my family because they offer help to take care of him. Definitely , he is very cute and some say he looks like me. One interesting thing is that he gets upset and grumpy when his diaper gets dirty, and if we don’t change it immediately, he will cry loudly.

Ms Tang Man Yee

Wai Wai is the name of my baby boy, and I am very delighted to have him. Ever since I’ve had him, there hasn’t much time for me to take a break and it can be very tiring. Recently he is able to stand up and almost starting to learn how to walk. I feel gratified to see him grow and learn so much day by day, and it is a magical experience to see the transformation.



Mr Wong Ka Wo

My feelings were very complicated when my son was born. Although I was busy at work and a little bit sick at the time, the happiness he brought cannot be neglected. I am also very happy to see my daughter and son get along so well, and hope that they will be there for each other when they grow up.

Mr Mui Chi Kit

Nok Yi is my son’s name and a gift given to my family. Being a father, I have to take care of him and start teaching him all kinds of stuff. It is very heart‐warming when he comes to me every day when I get home after work. He is almost at the stage when he learns how to walk so I am also very excited to see him learn and be there for him when he needs me.

Aren’t they all cute and adorable? Having a newborn baby in a family surely makes life lively and fun! We would like to thank all teachers who generously shared their stories of their babies and we would like to wish all babies grow up healthily and happily.

Hong Kong Schools Speech Festival 4D Kenneth Law Congrats to all winners of the Speech Festival! Our school has been doing a great job in the past 35 years. 2B Fung Pak Wai won the 1st runner up in the solo verse category. He thinks there are different ways to express the poem lively and the most important thing is to present the poem whole‐heartedly. Despite rank‐

ing second in the competition, he thinks learning English and verbal projections during training are more valuable than just winning a prize. The 2nd runner up honours went to 3C Chik Pui Hang and she realizes that staying calm in the competition is crucial .She thinks this experience has helped her a lot in the speaking prospect. Although some of the students did not get a prize, they enjoyed appreciating the performance of students from other schools, which is an eye‐opening experience to them.

LKKCers, keep up the good work next year to show our school’s spirits “Do our best! Be our best! Show our best!”

‘Snoopy: The Peanuts Movie’ Movie Review

Star Wars Movie Review 4A Cherry Lai

I believe that ‘Peanuts’ is one of the most indelible and well‐known comic titles in our childhood. With the distinctive characters, it brought us lots of laughter. The release of ‘Snoopy: The Pea‐nuts Movie’, seems to be a precious chance for us to recall our memories of ‘Peanuts’.

In the film, Charlie Brown is as slowwitted as usual and he fully shows his benignity towards his friends. At the beginning, he can’t help falling in love with the little red‐haired girl. He practices magic hard with his friend, Snoopy, to attract the girl. Although the magic show is the best chance to attract the girl, he relinquishes his show and chooses to help his sister. This is a really touching scene that conveys the importance of kinship and family.

Besides kinship, the movie also conveys honesty. Charlie Brown is envied by others because he gets full marks in the exam. But when he realizes that the mark sheet is accidentally mixed up with Peppermint Patty’s and he is not the one who gets full marks, he honestly tells the teacher. Even though being honest is a basic moral which everyone should adopt, sometimes telling the truth can be difficult, especially when we can benefit from not telling the truth. Charlie Brown’s experience seems to be worth learning from.

The most remarkable dialogue throughout the film is when the little red‐haired girl says she ad‐mires Charlie Brown’s selflessness and praises him as an honest, caring, and compassionate per‐

son. Charlie Brown is often seen to be unsophisticated but his behavior wins the little red‐haired girl’s appreciation. It is really touch‐ing that Charlie Brown can be appreciated by the girl. This reminds us to appreciate others as everyone has their virtues.

The film can be tedious to some students, but it is an invaluable opportunity for us to recall our memories of ‘Peanuts’, learn to be honest and learn to appreciate.

The Force Awakens

This movie belongs to the Star Wars series. The story takes place after about 30 years after the last Jedi, Luke Skywalker disap‐

peared. The First Order has arisen from the Galactic Empire and attempts to destroy Luke and the Republic. The pilot of the op‐

posing army which is called the Resistance, Poe Dameron, accidentally encounters a scavenger while he is getting a map for

Luke’s location. The scavenger is eventually tracked, however he uses strategies to help himself get through obstacles. With wars

going on and everything becoming a piece of mess, will the scavenger find his way to escape? Who will be the finally winner of

the war? It’s up to you to find out.

Being one of the movies in the spotlight, the movie showcases high quality graphics and vivid animated characters which are

both key factors to its success. Besides this, the fascinating plot keeps the audience on the edge of their seats until the last sec‐

ond. The storyline is fast with lots of actions and fight scenes throughout the movie to provide small and big climaxes. The voices

of the casts fit the characters and bring them to life.

Nevertheless, there are still improvements that could be made. I think that the plot could be a bit more innovative and creative.

Most movies in the series tend to look and feel the same. Audiences might want to seek new forms of excitement. Also, the run‐

ning time could be cut, say, to an hour and a half or so.

All in all, it’s still an almost perfect movie, and I strongly recommend this movie.

New Year Resolutions 4A Candy Cheung, Cherry Lai

Ms Wong Chun‐yu:

I hope I can go to the gym twice a week, because I am too busy and can only go once a week usually.

Mr Fong Ho‐nam:

First and foremost, I need to start doing some exercise and build a health‐ier lifestyle. I have to be fit enough to take care of my baby boy after my working hours, not to mention the basic housework that I should usually take up.

Apart from this, I wish to finish reading a few books. In the last few years, I always wished but failed to read a few enlightening books about culture, life, history or literature. But because of my new family duty as a father, this year I have to put parental and educational guidebooks as my first priority.

Another thing I wish to accomplish would be doing at least one summer course on anything that may remind me of all the challenges that a stu‐dent may meet. Having taught for over a decade, sometimes I have really lost my empathy for my students who have to overcome all sorts of learning difficulties every day. I shall tune my mindset to listen to the needs of my students by becoming a student myself.

Ms Law Wing‐yi:

Regular exercise and read more.

Ms Leung Pui‐sin:

I would like to read more, especially before bedtime. I would also like to turn to a fuller vegetarian diet to protect the animals as I think it is cruel to eat them.

Mr Mok Siu‐cho:

Firstly, I would like to get better grades in my French class. I have been learning French since the year before and to excel in it has been one of my biggest wishes. I do hope that I can enhance my French language skills and make improvements this year.

Secondly, something personal, I hope that I can have a new baby with my wife this year. We’ve always wanted a new baby since we got married. It doesn’t matter whether the baby’s a boy or a girl.

Lastly, I hope that all students can strive harder in their exams and achieve their targets!
