on 16 September before taking on the colts and geldings when again second in the Golden Rose Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m) last Saturday.

Champagne Cuddles, a daughter of Group One winner Sky Cuddle (Snippets), is one of 11 fillies in the $500,000 Randwick race where she has drawn the outside barrier (11).

The $4.20 second favourite will be ridden by Jason Collett, who partnered the filly to her two victories as a juvenile in the Pierro Plate (1100m) last October and a dominant win at Randwick in June.

“She is in great order and she has a really good constitution. She is tough and she is fit and nothing seems to faze her,” Baker told ANZ Bloodstock News.

“We couldn’t be happier with her going into the weekend’s race.”Baker deliberately only gave Champagne Cuddles one run in June

before freshening her up with the spring Group races in mind, so the filly’s second placing to Trapeze Artist (Snitzel) in the Golden Rose Stakes did not surprise the Warwick Farm-based trainer.

Champagne Cuddles was last in the field of 14 in the Golden Rose Stakes before sprinting home to be four and a quarter lengths behind the Gerald Ryan-trained Trapeze Artist. The Run To The Rose (Gr 2, 1200m) winner Menari (Snitzel) ran third.

“She is a good filly and she has always shown us that she is exceptional, so what she did in the Golden Rose was no great surprise to us because of what we had seen at home,” Baker said.

“We have always had confidence that she would run really well this spring, that’s for sure.”

Baker said Champagne Cuddles would almost certainly be spelled after the Flight Stakes with a view to bringing her back for the Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (RL, 1400m) at the Gold Coast in January.

Bred by Stuart Ramsey’s Turangga Farm, Champagne Cuddles was passed in for $180,000 (reserve $200,000) at the 2016 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale. Her now two-year-old brother made $70,000 at this year’s Magic Millions National Yearling Sale in June.

“We haven’t even put her in the Thousand Guineas (at Caulfield), so more than likely she will go for a break,” Baker said.

“She is a Magic Millions filly, so we have got that in the back of our mind to have her ready for the 3YO Guineas race.”

Rival trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott are hoping Pandemonium (Sebring) can give the pair back-

Champagne Cuddles set for second Group One test in a week

to-back Flight Stakes after winning the race last year with Global Glamour (Star Witness).

A lightly raced filly, Pandemonium won a Kembla Grange maiden before progressing to metropolitan grade with a 1600 metres victory at Warwick Farm. Last start, in the Tea Rose Stakes, the noted leader missed the start and was always well back, finishing ninth of ten runners.

Joao Moreira will ride Pandemonium ($8), replacing the suspended Josh Parr.

“Global Glamour had excuses all through her lead up to the Flight Stakes and we were always confident going through and the step up to the mile was exactly what she needed and is exactly what Pandemonium needs on Saturday,” Bott said.

“The drop back to 1400 metres wasn’t ideal to begin with and then when she missed the start, she overreacted in behind horses and they went slow in front. She just doesn’t have the turn of foot to sit back and quicken to get herself into the race. Everything went against her.”

Bott predicted Pandemonium would settle on the speed in the Flight Stakes.

“Her asset is her cruising speed and over the mile she can sustain that,” Bott said.

“All going to plan, she’ll behave herself in the gates, jump cleanly and get into that nice rhythm that suits her.”

Meanwhile, jockey Glyn Schofield, who is attempting to win his first Group One race for Godolphin, will ride the James Cummings-trained $2.80 chance Alizee in the Flight Stakes.

He said the filly, who is a half-sister to 2016 Golden Rose Stakes winner Astern (Medaglia d’Oro), would be ridden quietly early on before being allowed to work her way into the race, as she was when successful in the Tea Rose Stakes.

“She was ridden a tad quieter, hopefully it was the extra distance and being ridden quieter. It was a strong win though, wasn’t it?’’ Schofield said.

“She’s not going to be asked to do it all early on so hopefully she’ll be using her speed when she needs it.’’

McEvoy to ride She Will Reign overweightKerrin McEvoy will ride Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) winner She Will Reign (Manhattan Rain) half a kilogram over the filly's declared weight in the A J Moir Stakes (Gr 1, 1000m). She Will Reign has 50 kilograms in tonight's weight-for-age sprint at Moonee Valley but stewards have allowed the jockey to ride the filly at 50.5 kilograms. The Gary Portelli-trained three-year-old She Will Reign arrived in Melbourne from Sydney yesterday in preparation for her first start of the season against older horses. "It was her first trip away from home and I was concerned because it was

ten hours but she put her head straight into the feed bin and she's as bright as a button," Portelli told Racing.com.

Fresh is best for TerravistaTrainer Joe Pride is keen to use Group One-winning sprinter Terravista’s (Captain Rio) first up record to good effect in tonight’s A J Moir Stakes. Pride had flagged Terravista as a contender for the $10,000,000 The Everest (1200m), but failed to secure a slot so changed plans and took the gelding to Melbourne. "His fresh record is unbelievable. He's never run a bad race and he's fantastic at 1000 metres," Pride said. "If you take out the 1000 he won when he was going through the grades, the others were all very competitive fields."

Morning Briefing

Stud-bound Sheidel set for MoirCo-trainer David Hayes believes three important factors can see Oakleigh Plate (Gr 1, 1100m) winner Sheidel (Holy Roman Emperor) be competitive in tonight’s A J Moir Stakes. The six-year-old mare ran fourth in The Heath 1100 (Gr 3, 1100m) first up on 2 September and has drawn barrier six for tonight’s Group One race. "She's got three things to suggest her form will improve on Friday," Hayes told Racing.com. "One is Joao Moreira getting back on her, two is that she's been covered in between runs by a stallion, which often brightens them up, and three is that she's got blinkers for the first time in her career.”

Balancing Act ready to fly at ValleyTrainer Brent Stanley is confident Balancing Act (Not A Single Doubt) can put in a good performance when she resumes in a Benchmark 84 (955m) at Moonee Valley tomorrow. The four-year-old mare has not been seen since running tenth in in the Denise’s Joy Stakes (Listed, 1100m) at Scone in May. Balancing Act had been expected to make her seasonal reappearance early on this season, but Stanley said he had decided to wait for drier conditions.

Cavanough makes Premiere choiceTrainer Brett Cavanough is aware of the stiff task facing The Monstar (California Dane) when he runs in tomorrow’s Premiere Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) at Randwick. The Monstar looks set to face some high-class opposition in the form of multiple Group One winner Chautauqua (Encosta De Lago), Group One winner Clearly Innocent (Not A Single Doubt) and multiple

Group One-placegetter Fell Swoop (Not A Single Doubt) in the $500,000 race. "I wish The Everest wasn't around," Cavanough said. "Half of them would be down in Melbourne and not here annoying us. This just tells you what The Everest is doing for racing. One thing Racing NSW has done is attract the best sprinters in Australia to Randwick for the last four or five weeks."

Conditions to suit Libran in MetropolitanJockey Glyn Schofield is confident the Chris Waller-trained Libran (Lawman) can follow up his recent victory in the Kingston Town Stakes (Gr 3, 2000m) when he lines up in The Metropolitan (Gr 1, 2400m) at Randwick tomorrow. Libran lines up alongside stablemates Antonio Giuseppe (Shocking), Who Shot Thebarman (Yamanin Vital) and Life Less Ordinary (Thewayyouare) in the $750,000 race. “He hit the line strongly, he obviously stays well and likes fast ground so hopefully he runs well again,’’ Schofield said. “He impressed me

with that win and when he sprinted, he sprinted quickly. A peak performance is what he needs on Saturday.’’

Amralah scratched from Group OnePoor results from a blood test taken from The Metropolitan (Gr 1, 2400m) contender Amralah (Teofilo) has resulted in him being scratched from the Group One staying feature at Randwick tomorrow. The Lloyd Williams-owned and Rob Hickmott-trained eight-year-old stallion had been unplaced in three starts this campaign after a long spell and was due to step up to Group One company tomorrow. Amralah was scratched yesterday after the veterinary report.

Snitzel Sprint return for SprightGroup Three winner Spright (Hinchinbrook) will make her seasonal reappearance in the Snitzel Sprint (1200m) at Randwick tomorrow. Trainer Gary Frazer says she had spelled a little better than he would have allowed so is a little

reserved about her chances in the race. “I gave her a full six weeks out and she did unbelievably in her spell so she will probably be a bit soft on Saturday,’’ Frazer said. “While she is a bit soft, I expect her to run well. She’s drawn probably not ideally for a horse like her in one but (Jay Ford) will have to make his own luck from there.’’ All being well on Saturday, Frazer says he intends to aim the mare at The Nivison (Gr 3, 1200m) at Randwick on 21 October.

Denman filly to start in GimcrackDenman (Lonhro) filly Greyt Love, who was runner-up to Witherspoon (Exceed And Excel) in the fastest Canterbury two-year-old barrier trial on 18 September, will have her first start in tomorrow’s Gimcrack Stakes (Listed, 1000m) at Randwick. The Bjorn Baker-trained filly’s dam Greytfilly (Ferocity) was purchased for $170,000 carrying Greyt Love at the 2015 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale. “She is a nice filly who has a really good attitude and that will hold her in good stead come Saturday,”

Baker told ANZ Bloodstock News. “Hopefully she can use the gate (two) to her advantage, be up on speed and go from there.”

Portelli to unveil five juveniles at RandwickTrainer Gary Portelli says he is looking forward to unveiling his five juveniles at Randwick tomorrow. Portelli has Cortesta (Testa Rossa), Zerchois (Choisir), I Stole Your Love (Unencumbered) and Now Or Never (All American) in the Gimcrack Stakes (Listed, 1000m), while Exceltic (Excelebration) is his sole entrant in the Breeders’ Plate (Listed, 1000m). "I love training the two-year-olds," Portelli said. "We had a nice group come through and we identified these ones that we've got as our early types. There's some nice depth there. They can all gallop."

Hill Stakes a test for EmbleyTrainer Bjorn Baker admits in-form on-pacer Embley (High Chaparral) faces a big challenge

when he steps up to stakes grade in the Hill Stakes (Gr 2, 1800m) at Randwick. The six-year-old gelding, who was scratched from the Epsom Handicap to run in the weight-for-age Hill Stakes, has won his past two starts at Randwick in benchmark handicap grade. “He is going super at the moment, but whether he is up to this class is another question,” Baker said. Jason Collett will ride Embley from barrier three in a race which will be without Red Excitement (Excites) who has been scratched to run in the Epsom Handicap.Click here to view the Randwick acceptances.

Laing turns to Newitt in Rupert ClarkeTrainer Robbie Laing has called on jockey Craig Newitt to partner So Si Bon (So You Think) in the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m) at Caulfield on Sunday. Newitt has not ridden for Laing since he won the Australian Cup (Gr 1, 2000m) on Roman Arch (Archway) in 2006 and Laing is hoping the pair can be victorious 11 years on. at Caulfield last week and he said 'You haven't put me on a decent one since Roman Arch won the Australian Cup so you'd better put me on So Si Bon'," Laing told Racing.com. "It's the best barrier he's drawn for ages. He's down to 52 kilograms and he's got the blinkers on for the first time since he won his maiden just to make him a little keener for the 1400 metres and he's ready to run a bottler.”

Freedman expects big runs from Rupert Clarke pairTrainer Anthony Freedman expects Santa Ana Lane (Lope De Vega) and Mr Sneaky (High Chaparral) to run well in Sunday’s Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m) at Caulfield. Mr Sneaky’s three-race winning run came to an end last start when he was beaten into second in the Tontonan Stakes (Listed, 1400m), while Santa Ana Lane was most recently seen running fourth in the Chandler MacLeod Stakes (Listed, 1200m) on 9 September. “This has been the race we've aimed him at and he's got in now and he's on the limit (of 52 kilograms)," Freedman said of Mr Sneaky. "I think if he's going to win a Group One it will be a handicap and it will be at 1400 metres. And I think Caulfield is his best track."

Underwood to give Samovare a shot at Caulfield CupFormer Perth-trained mare Samovare (Savabeel) will attempt to qualify for the Caulfield Cup (Gr 1, 2400m) via the Underwood Stakes (Gr 1, 1800m). Samovare won at Moonee Valley on 9 September, the same day Bonneval (Makfi), an opponent on Sunday, won the Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes (Gr 2, 1600m). She then finished second to her stablemate Harlem (Champs Elysees) at Caulfield in the Naturalism Stakes (Gr 3, 2000m) last week. "I got that race rated and it was a rating of a weight-for-age horse, beaten by a weight-for-age horse," co-trainer David Hayes said.

Wide barrier a positive for SymphonyTony McEvoy is unperturbed by Royal Symphony’s (Domesday) wide draw in Saturday’s Caulfield Guineas Prelude (Gr 3, 1400m) at Caulfield on Sunday. The unbeaten

colt has drawn barrier 12, which is the second widest with only the Peter Gelagotis-trained Levendi (Pierro) on his outside. "Barriers are key in this business but the way his style is I would rather him be second last on the outside than second last on the inside," McEvoy said. "This draw now allows Dwayne (Dunn, jockey) to be where he wants to be, whereas if you draw inside you are dictated to. The first-up run tightened him up as it needed to. We've worked him solid but haven't galloped him hard as he's staying at the same trip.”

Kementari to get Caulfield experienceThe Godolphin-raced Kementari (Lonhro) will make his Melbourne debut ahead of a tilt at the Caulfield Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) on 14 October when he lines up in the Caulfield Guineas Prelude on Sunday. The colt was last seen running fourth behind Menari (Snitzel) in The Run To The Rose (Gr 2, 1200m) at Rosehill on 9 September. "We decided to bypass the Golden Rose and focus on Melbourne and get some experience at Caulfield before the Guineas," trainer James Cummings said. "If he does a few little things wrong on Saturday we'll be able to forgive him. He certainly gets the opportunity under the set weights and penalties to run a very good race leading up to the Guineas and I'd like to see the horse deliver on some of the promise he started the preparation off with." Kementari will be joined in Sunday’s race by stablemate Esperance (Bernardini).

Hardham chases Inglis richesTrainer David Brideoake is hopeful Hardham (Redoute’s Choice) can confirm Caulfield Cup plans by landing the $250,000 Inglis Cup (2000m) at Caulfield on Sunday. The four-year-old, who was a $300,000 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale graduate, won the Alister Clark Stakes (Gr 2, 2040m) last campaign and also won at Flemington on 16 September, his second run back from a spell. “He’s going unbelievably well, he’s 17th in order of entry for the Caulfield Cup and that’s where we’d like to end up with him but we won’t be there just to make up the numbers. He basically needs to win on Sunday and win well to justify a start in the Caulfield Cup,’’ Brideoake said. Click here to view the Caulfield acceptances.

Winx arrives at Waller’s Flemington stablesChampion mare Winx (Street Cry) has arrived safely in Melbourne ahead of her next scheduled race, the Turnbull Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m), at Flemington on 7 October. The Chris Waller-trained mare travelled from her Rosehill base in Sydney to the trainer's Flemington stable on Wednesday night. Waller said he had been happy with Winx’s work over the past week which included a gallop on Saturday and again on Tuesday morning. "I am extremely pleased with where her fitness levels are at and she will have a gallop next week to finalise her preparation before the Turnbull Stakes," Waller said.

Exhibition gallop for Vega MagicVega Magic (Lope De Vega) will gallop in between races at Benalla today as he builds towards a possible tilt at The Everest (1200m) on 14 October. The Lindsay Park-trained five-year-old is unbeaten in his last four starts and was most recently seen taking out the Memsie Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m) at Caulfield on 2 September. The Lindsay Park stable will represent The Star Entertainment Group in The Everest and the choice is reportedly between Vega Magic and Group One winner Redkirk Warrior (Notnowcato).

Spring plans not a FormalityMeanwhile, Lindsay Park are weighing up what path they now take with Formality (Fastnet Rock) after her disappointing 11th place finish in the Golden Rose Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m) at Rosehill on 23 September. The stable is yet to make a decision whether they continue towards the Thousand Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) at Caulfield on 14 October or freshen her up for later targets this season. Formality won the Silver Shadow Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) first up before following up that victory in the Furious Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) second up.

Yankee Rose soldDual Group One winner Yankee Rose (All American) has been sold by syndicator Darby Racing, with the David Vandyke-trained four-year-old mare retired to stud. The winner of the

The mare suffered an injury in the Victoria Oaks (Gr 1, 2500m) last November and was unplaced at her only run since when ninth in the Memsie Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m) at Caulfield on 2 September.

Shinn wins careless riding appealBlake Shinn yesterday successfully appealed against a careless riding ban incurred on Pariah (Redoute’s Choice) in last Saturday’s Golden Rose Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m). The hearing was held yesterday, with the Racing Appeal Panel quashing Shinn’s ban, which would have seen the jockey miss key meetings from 2 October until 20 October. Shinn is now free to ride English (Encosta De Lago) in the $10,000,000 The Everest (1200m) at Randwick on 14 October.

Ford’s suspension dates changedJay Ford, who incurred a suspension at Rosehill on Wednesday, has had the dates of his ban altered by Racing NSW stewards to allow the rider to take mounts at the Canberra meeting on 6 October. Having already confirmed his availability for the Canberra meeting, Ford’s suspension will start on 7 October and expire on 13 October.

Feet issues plague Our King SwayGroup Three winner Our King Sway (Shinko King) is in good shape ahead of his run in the Powerworx Greys (1400m) at Pukekura tomorrow. The Taranaki Cup (Gr 3, 1800m) winner hasn’t favoured the wet conditions over winter and has been plagued by feet issues in the lead-up to his campaign. “We’ve had a couple of mishaps with him with his feet,” said trainer Glenn Old “He’s got really flat feet so they have been stone bruised all winter. So we are not 100 per cent of the way there yet, I’d say we’re only 80 per cent ready. But it’s a small field so you’d think he’d be in the money anyway.”

Two Thousand Guineas aim for Scott BaseAfter shedding his maiden tag over 1400 metres at Waipukurau yesterday, Scott Base (Dalghar) could now be aimed for a tilt in the New Zealand Two Thousand Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) at Riccarton. Stakes-placed as a two-year-old, Scott Base was too good for his opposition when he scored a neck victory over Tipperary Mary (Darci Brahma). “He needed to win today and he’s got a big future,” said Johno Benner, who trains the Dalghar gelding with Hollie Wynyard. “He needs good ground so we might look at the Zacinto Stakes two weeks before the Two Thousand Guineas for him.”

Gore start for ShowemupTrainer Sally McKay has said stakes winner Showemup (Showcasing) will resume in the Abernethy Contracting Handicap (1200m) at Gore today, having not been seen since running third in the Warstep Stakes (Listed, 2000m) in April. “She’s drawn one and she should jump out and sit behind the leader,” McKay said. “She’s had one jump-out at Winton last week and jogged in so she’s very well. She’ll have this run and then we’ll see if she needs another one before the Valachi Downs Breeders’ Stakes at Riccarton. I think she’s up to that and then there’s the White Robe Lodge as well.”

Royal Success trials wellRoyal Success (Savabeel) is nearing a return to racing. Talented but unsound, the gelding has won four of his eight starts and he finished runner-up in an open heat over 1000 metres at Te Teko on Tuesday. “He trialled well enough and, at this stage, he’s looking good,” co-trainer Jamie Richards said. “We’ve just had a treadmill put in and he’ll do a lot of his work on that.”

Pukekohe charity day successThe annual charity meeting at Pukekohe last Sunday exceeded expectations. More than NZ$16,000 was raised for the New Zealand Spinal Trust (NZST) after NZ$9,000 went to the cause 12 months ago. The NZST is a registered charity to assist people with spinal cord impairments, a cause close to the racing community.

No Melbourne Cup for AlbertTrainer Noriyuki Hori advised Racing Victoria that dual Group Two winner Albert (Admire Don) will not run in the Melbourne Cup (Gr 1, 3200m) at Flemington on 7 November. The six-year-old was meant to enter quarantine in the next few days but will now not make the trip to Australia.

Purton expects Starlight to improveJockey Zac Purton recorded a four-timer at Happy Valley on Wednesday, and the jockey believes the Dennis Yip-trained Starlight (Red Element) is capable of reaching loftier heights following the gelding’s win in the Citi Sprint Challenge Cup Handicap (1200m).“He jumped well and the horses to my inside seemed to dwell a bit so it just opened up a beautiful spot for him in behind the speed on the fence,” Purton said. “I just wanted to give him a bit of room if I could, he has been better swooping and I was able to do that with nothing on my outside. When he let go, with no weight on his back and the way he is going, he put them to bed pretty comfortably. There’s no reason why he can’t do it again, he’s racing in really good form.”

Callan records first winner of the seasonJockey Neil Callan rode his first winner this season aboard the Chris So-trained Junzi (Red Giant) in the Osmanthus Handicap (1000m) at Happy Valley on Wednesday. “I told you all not to panic! Go with the flow,” said Callan. Meanwhile, So was equally pleased with the victory. “He is quite a small horse and he doesn’t hold his condition easily, he lightens off after he races,” So said. “So I think we’ll space his runs out. Also, he didn’t have much space to move with his rating last season, but off a rating of 48, he was going to be competitive.”

Efisio) ran out a ready winner of the Tattersalls Stakes (registered as Somerville Stakes) (Gr 3, 7f) at Newmarket yesterday. The colt is out of Group One-winning mare Attraction (Efisio) and was purchased by Shadwell for 1,600,000 guineas at Book One of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale from the Floors Stud draft. Yesterday he followed up his debut victory over seven furlongs at York when beating Tip Two Win (Dark Angel) by a decisive two and a quarter lengths. This was a second stakes winner in as many days for Frankel, following up Monarchs Glen victory in the Foundation Stakes (Listed, 1m2f) at Goodwood on Wednesday.

Four for NathanielIn winning the Jockey Club Rose Bowl Stakes (Listed, 2m) at Newmarket yesterday, the John Gosden-trained Face The Facts (3 g ex Aricia by Nashwan) handed the Newsells Park Stud-based stallion Nathaniel (Galileo) with his fourth stakes winner. The three-year-old, who was stepping back into stakes company having been last seen running second over a mile and three quarters at Haydock on his last start, beat Nearly Caught (New Approach) by a length with another three lengths back to UAE King (Frankel) in third. Face The Facts joins multiple Group One winner Enable, Group Three winner God Given and Listed winner Natavia as the sires other stakes winners.

16 For Siyouni The Rod Collet-trained Sully (2 f ex Shaama Rose, by Verglas) ran out a ready winner of the Prix de la Ville de Venissieux - Criterium de Lyon (Listed, 1600m) at Lyon Parilly yesterday and in the process provided Siyouni (Pivotal) with

his 16th stakes winner. The two-year-old filly was last seen running third in the Criterium du Fonds Europeen de l'Elevage (Listed, 1600m) at Deauville and yesterday he beat Alhadab (Camelot) by a length and a half with another neck back to Bakchich Game (Shakespearean) in third. Siyouni stands at Haras de Bonneval where his fee in 2017 was €45,000.

Enable faces 17 in the ArcMultiple Group One winner Enable (Nathaniel) will face 17 rivals in Sunday’s Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (Gr 1, 2400m) at Chantilly. Looking to secure her fifth win at elite level, Enable will line up alongside Aidan O’Brien’s multiple Group One winner Winter (Galileo), who will be racing outside of her own sex for this first and she will be partnered by Ballydoyle stable jockey Ryan Moore. O’Brien has also declared Group One winners Order Of St George (Galileo) and Capri (Galileo), Seventh Heaven (Galileo) and Idaho (Galileo). Meanwhile, Sir Michael Stoute will be represented in the race by Ulysses (Galileo). The most notable absentees yesterday’s declarations were multiple Group One winner Highland Reel (Galileo) and Derby (Gr 1, 1m4f) runner-up Cliffs Of Moher (Galileo).

Sioux Nation heads Middle Park declarationsGroup One winner Sioux Nation (Scat Daddy) heads the 12 declarations for the Middle Park Stakes (Gr 1, 6f) at Newmarket tomorrow. The two-year-old has not been seen since winning the Phoenix Stakes (Gr 1, 6f) at Curragh in August and he will line up against Beckford (Bated Breath), who followed him home in second. The pair will be joined by Group Two winners Rajasinghe (Choisir) and Sands Of

Mali (Panis). Meanwhile, the Karl Burke-trained Unfortunately (Society Rock) will look to follow up his recent victory in the Prix Morny (Gr 1, 1200m) in the Group One.

Clemmie out to secure first Group OneThe Aidan O’Brien-trained Clemmie (Galileo) will be out to win her first Group One race when she takes on 13 rivals in the Juddmonte Cheveley Park Stakes (Gr 1, 6f) at Newmarket on Saturday. The two-year-old, who is a half-sister to multiple Group One winner Churchill, will line up alongside the Clive Cox-trained Flying Childers (Gr 2, 5f) winner Heartache (Kyllachy). Other notable declarations include Lowther Stakes (Gr 2, 6f) victor Threading (Exceed And Excel) for trainer Mark Johnston.

Almanzor to stand at Haras d’EtrehamMultiple Group One winner Almanzor (Wootton Bassett) will return to his breeders and stand at Haras d’Etreham in France in 2018 for an introductory fee of €35,000. A winner of five races at graded level, Almanzor retires with eight wins in total from 11 starts and earnings of £2,282,603. “We are, of course, very happy Almanzor is retiring at Etreham but also very satisfied he can remain in France as a stallion,” the farm’s owner, Nicolas de Chambure told the TDN. “For many years, the best French-trained horses were all retiring to stud outside France, including Lawman (Fr), Lope de Vega (Ire), Intello (Ger) and New Bay (GB). Today, this trend is reversing. It’s a great satisfaction that the best European horse with a rating of 133 is retiring in France.”

Aaron Purcell will take over as the caretaker trainer for the suspended Ciaron Maher from next week after Racing Victoria

stewards approved the appointment yesterday. Multiple Group One-winning trainer Maher

was on Monday suspended for six months and fined $75,000 by the Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board (RAD) over the ownership bona fides of five horses under his care.

They included Group One winner Azkadellia (Shinko King) who along with her stablemates were raced in the name of Maher’s former racing manager Ben Connolly, concealing the identity of the horses’ real owner, convicted conman Peter Foster.

Racing Victoria chief steward Terry Bailey confirmed yesterday that Purcell, who will also maintain his own stable at Warrnambool in country Victoria, would take over Maher’s large team at Caulfield.

Maher had originally hoped to install his brother Declan and assistant trainer David Eustace as the trainers at his large Caulfield stable while he serves his ban.

“The main thing we wanted to be satisfied with was Mr Purcell was responsible for the employment of the staff and that he'd be spending the majority of his time at Caulfield,” Bailey said.

"He's given that undertaking. There's a

deed of agreement the parties need to sign which is with our legal team at the moment.

"The contents of that are no different to what we've had a verbal agreement on, so it's just a matter of getting signatures before Monday."

Purcell told ANZ Bloodstock News last night Maher had officially asked him to consider taking over his operation after the RAD Board hearing on Monday.

He said he would be at Caulfield tomorrow morning to oversee trackwork with Maher and his staff.

“I am excited about the opportunity, but importantly Ciaron has a lot of structures and good staff in place,” Purcell said.

“I am confident with the staff there that the move will be fairly seamless and that I do a good job and the results will keep on coming.”

Purcell currently has 17 horses in training at his Warrnambool stable, which he will maintain while overseeing Maher’s operation, and said the pair’s training styles were similar.

“Early days we used to work our horses together (at Warrnambool) because we didn’t have many horses,” he said.

“We have always spoken about different horses and how we would go about doing things with a particular horse. He knows how I think about things and I know how he thinks about things, so I guess that is why he has asked me to take on the role.”

Purcell to take over stable of suspended trainer Ciaron Maher

Maher also notified his clients yesterday that Purcell would be taking charge of his Caulfield stable.

Purcell said most of Maher’s owners had indicated they would keep their horses with him while the suspension was served. Maher’s six-month ban starts on Monday and concludes on 2 April next year.

Maher, who trained Jameka (Myboycharlie) to win the Caulfield Cup (Gr 1, 2400m) and The BMW (registered as H E Tancred Stakes) (Gr 1, 2400m) and Ruthven (Domesday) to win the Queensland Derby (Gr 1, 2400m), has 30 days to pay his $75,000 fine.

If the opening day of the Goffs Orby Sale belonged to Galileo (Sadler’s Wells) - by virtue of Godolphin breaking their embargo on stock by the Coolmore

colossus - then Wednesday's second session was all about his magnum opus Frankel (Galileo) after Justin Casse went to €1,600,000 for a showstopping colt offered by Marlhill House Stud.

Trade had been simmering during the opening stages of the action but it reached boiling point as the Frankel colt entered the auditorium.

An opening bid of €100,000 was directed at auctioneer Henry Beeby but, with the likes of Kerri Radcliffe and Jeremy Brummitt among the underbidders, it wasn't long before the seven-figure ceiling was broken for the second time this week.

However, matters ultimately came

down to a straight duel between Godolphin representative Anthony Stroud, standing on the uppermost tier, and American agent Justin Casse, standing with members of the Coolmore team on the level below.

The price continued to climb until Casse gave a bid of €1,600,000 , and with a resigned shake of his head Stroud declined to return fire.

"He'll be trained in Ireland by Aidan O'Brien," revealed Casse. "He's for the Zayats [owners of American Pharoah]. We came here looking for horses with stallion potential. Justin Zayat liked him and Aidan liked him, and the parties involved know all about making stallions. Plus, he's out of a young stakes-producing mare."

The March-born colt, who was catalogued as Lot 330, is a three-quarters brother to Norwegian Group Three winner Giuseppe Piazzi (Galileo), who had added the Scandinavian Open Championship (Gr 3, 2400m) to his CV

By James Thomas of the Racing Post @anz_news

Frankel fever hits Orby Sale as €1,600,000 colt takes centre stage

since the catalogue's publication, and a half-brother to Herbert Power Stakes (Gr 2, 2400m) winner Adjusted (Montjeu).

Bred by Eddie Irwin's Rockhart Trading, he is the fifth foal out of the winning Xaar (Zafonic) mare Belesta, who is herself out of the Prix de Royaumont winner Bellarida (Bellypha), which makes her a half-sister to Group Three winner - and dam of Group One winner We Are (Dansili) - In Clover (Inchinor).

Casse has now purchased a quartet of Frankel yearlings around the globe, including Gidu, a €410,000 purchase from the 2016 Arqana August Sale who ran second on debut for Todd Pletcher and Zayat Stables at Saratoga in August.

O'Brien, meanwhile, has already enjoyed success with the progeny of Juddmonte's dual world champion, including with the Futurity Stakes (Gr 2, 7f) winner Rostropovich, whose Dubawi (Dubai Millennium) half-sister was also bought by Casse on behalf of Everett Dobson's Cheyenne Stables for €400,000 earlier in the session.

It takes guts as well as guile to pull off a 180,000 guineas pinhook, and Baroda and Colbinstown Studs showed a good deal of both as their Kingman (Invincible Spirit) colt fetched €650,000 to the bid of Roger Varian, who signed the ticket on behalf of Sheikh Mohammed Obaid.

Mick Flanagan formed part of the team that signed for the colt as a foal at Tattersalls, and the agent was understandably delighted with the return on their bold investment.

"We took a stand on him last year that if he came in under 200,000 guineas, we'd take a shot," he said. "He's got a proper pedigree - it can be hard to find those horses with the page and the physical but he fitted the bill. And the team at the stud did a great job with him over the winter.

"It's great that he's going to Roger too. We've been supporters of him from the beginning and I'm delighted that Roger and Hanako got him."

Bred by Knocktoran Stud and catalogued as Lot 444, the colt is out of the winning Pivotal (Polar Falcon) mare Go Lovely Rose, a sister to champion three-year-old filly Immortal Verse, and traces his family back to the likes of Group One winners Last Tycoon (Try My Best) and Valentine Waltz (Be My Guest).

His sale took Kingman's Orby average to €270,000.

Six-figure prices continued to fly well into the closing stages, including the €625,000 given by Peter Doyle for the Galileo filly out of Hawala (Warning) offered by Barronstown Stud, who was catalogued as Lot 455.

"It's a proper page and whatever she does, she will always be a valuable broodmare," said Doyle, who signed the docket on behalf of MV Magnier and Markus Jooste's Mayfair Speculators. "She's for the team - Coolmore and Mayfair - and was just a lovely filly. We loved her from the first time we saw her on Saturday."

As a sibling to no fewer than 11 winners, the filly boasts a quite sublime pedigree.

Among that number are Irish 2,000 Guineas (Gr 1, 1m) runner-up Foxtrot Romeo (Danehill Dancer), Group Three winner Air Chief Marshal (Danehill Dancer) and the Listed-winning pair Slip Dance (Celtic Song) and Misu Bond (Danehill Dancer), with the latter named duo already on the page when Barronstown bought Hawala through the BBA Ireland for 280,000 guineas at Tattersalls in December 2008.

"It's been a very good sale for us," noted Doyle. "We've bought plenty - all shapes and sizes and all prices!"

Agent Alastair Donald made a sizeable impact across the two sessions, and by the close of trade on Wednesday he and business partner Ed Sackville had signed for 19 lots at a total spend of €3,107,000 on behalf of a variety of clients.

"It's been a successful week," remarked

Donald. "We've got some new clients who've got stuck in, and of course there's been some very good-looking horses to bid on. The Leicester City owner [Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha] has bought a handful and he's an exciting new player to the game."

Donald did not specify precisely how many of the yearlings were due to carry Srivaddhanaprabha's King Power Racing silks in the future, but it seems the owner has well and truly been bitten by the racing bug having spent £2,050,000 on six horses, including Tisbutadream (Dream Ahead) and Straight Right (Siyouni), at the Goffs London Sale on the eve of Royal Ascot in June.

Among Donald's most noteworthy purchases on Wednesday was Lot 364, a

Dabirsim (Hat Trick) colt consigned by Gormanstown Stud who fetched €500,000, and a son of Coolmore shuttler No Nay Never (Scat Daddy) offered by Lynn Lodge Stud who brought a price of €325,000 late in the session. He was catalogued as Lot 426.

"The Dabirsim is a stunning individual who I thought was the best moving horse in the sale. The sire is hot too - we loved him," noted the agent. "And No Nay Never has had some particularly striking-looking and imposing horses here. The colt out of Fancy was a gorgeous-looking horse. They've all been selling well and the word is good on him so far.

noteable pinhooks during the concluding session. The strapping colt had cost Willie Browne and Mark Dwyer - whose Oaks Farm Stables offered the colt - €82,000 in the Goffs ring last November.

"I only had six in my place in the summer," said a stunned Browne. "This lad was always the standout. You'd call him in the field and he'd be up there half an hour before everyone else. He was a beautiful foal. He's a big, strong horse and always had a bit more scope than most Kodiacs. It's a fairytale!"

Catalogued as Lot 276 and bred by Ballyreddin Stud, the colt is a half-brother to two winners out of an unraced Bernstein (Storm Cat) half-sister to Group Three winner Magic America (High Yield), while his grandam, Shoofha (Bluebird), is a sister to Group Three winner Delilah (Bluebird).

Shadwell parted with €1,130,000 for four yearlings over the two-day sale.

Prince Khalid Abdullah's Juddmonte Farms secured a brace of yearlings during Wednesday's session, including an Invincible Spirit (Green Desert) filly from the Irish National Stud, with a bid of €450,000 required to see off David Redvers and Sheikh Fahad.

"We've had a bit of luck with Invincible Spirit," said Lord Grimthorpe with some understatement. "She's a gorgeous filly who looks like she might be speedy. She has a lot of class."

The filly, who was catalogued as Lot 440, was bred by the Irish National Stud out of the winning Excellent Art (Pivotal) mare Gift Of Heaven, a half-sister to Group Three winner

Lightning Moon (Shamardal) and Listed scorer Song Of My Heart (Footstepsinthesand).

All told, the results from the two days of selling returned a set of figures largely on par with 12 months earlier, when the sale included the highly prized Wildenstein Dispersal horses.

From 433 offered lots, 373 changed hands for a clearance rate of 86 per cent - up from 84 per cent in 2016. The aggregate stood at €40,702,500, a one per cent year-on-year improvement, while the average remained almost static at €109,120 and the median dipped just two per cent to €65,000.

The figures from the second and final session fell in line with the overall returns, with 178 of the 205 offered on Wednesday selling for a clearance rate of 86 per cent. Turnover stood at €19,557,500, up one per cent, the average

was steady at €109,875, and the median was up six per cent to €64,000.

At the conclusion of the sale, Goffs chief executive Henry Beeby said: "Two millionaires by Galileo and Frankel were the clear highlights of another strong renewal of our flagship Orby Sale, which has been well supported by a huge international cast of buyers who flocked to County Kildare to buy some beautifully bred and world-class yearlings that had been sent to us by leading breeders.

"Of course last year the sale was boosted by a group of yearlings that formed part of the once in a generation Wildenstein Stables Dispersal, so it is gratifying that we have bettered the sale when you take out those one-offs, while an improved clearance rate of 86 per cent is very much a positive."

The Gerald Ryan-trained colt Trapeze Artist (Snitzel) may have been a surprise $41 winner of Saturday’s Golden Rose Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m)

but his times suggest that it was a performance that could see the colt continue to be a force again in Group One company.

Winner of the Black Opal Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) as a two-year-old when Ryan added blinkers to the colt’s gear when having his third race start, the Rosehill trainer applied the same tactics in the Golden Rose Stakes, the move again proving a startling success.

After settling back in sixth place, behind a strong tempo, Trapeze Artist raced to the front at the 200 metres and then drew away to score brilliantly by four and a quarter lengths in the fast time of 1:22.41.

The hectic pace was set by the Paul Perry-trained stablemates The Mission (Choisir) and Perast (Snitzel), who over-raced in front, and as

a result the 1000 metres (from the 1200m to the 200m) was clocked in a very fast 56.66.

It took a quality horse to come off that tempo and win and Trapeze Artist did that in no uncertain manner, resulting in him recording outstanding sectional times.

Clocked from the 1200 metre point, Trapeze Artist returned 200 metre sections of 10.85, 11.35 (400m in 22.20), 11.43 (600m in 33.63), 11.42 (800m in 45.05), 11.48 (1000m in 56.56) with his final 200 metres in 12.08 to give him an impressive 1:08.61 for his final 1200 metres.

It was Trapeze Artist’s eighth start and his third win, the lightly raced colt now winning $957,750 in prize money with the likelihood of much more to come.

His Gerald Ryan-trained stablemate Menari (Snitzel), the firm favourite after his two outstanding wins in The Rosebud (Listed, 1200m) and The Run To The Rose

(Gr 2, 1200m), held on for third but appeared somewhat disappointing considering his brilliant lead-up form.

But he raced closer to the hectic mid-race tempo, plus Menari may have been tested by the step up to 1400 metres, Ryan later announcing that the colt would now be set for the Coolmore Stud Stakes (registered as the Ascot Vale Stakes) (Gr 1, 1200m), electing to revert to shorter distances.

Earlier in the day, the in-form stable took out the Shannon Stakes (Gr 2, 1500m) with the six-year-old gelding Washington Heights (Commands) in a performance that suggested he has more wins in store.

Having started his career with Ryan, Washington Heights subsequently raced successfully in Hong Kong before returning to him this year and has since raced four times for three wins, Saturday being his first success at Group level in 14 career starts.

After settling in second last place in the nine-horse field, behind a solid tempo, Washington Heights showed a good turn of foot in the straight and after taking the lead at the 100 metres, appeared to score with something in hand.

Time for the 1500 metre journey was 1:28.80 (11.84 200m rate), equivalent to 1600 metres in 1:34.72, and Washington Heights produced fast closing sectionals of 1:20.14 (last 1400m), 1:08.55 (last 1200m), 57.32 (last 1000m), 45.74 (last 800m), 34.29 (last 600m) with his final 400 metres in 22.81.

In the feature race at Caulfield on Saturday, the former Andre Fabre-trained six-year-old entire Harlem (Champs Elysees) took out the Naturalism Stakes (Gr 3, 2000m) in impressive fashion and in particularly fast time.

After being given an ideal trip by Dwayne Dunn, travelling in fifth place on the rails behind a strong pace, Harlem raced away over the closing stages to score by just over three lengths in 2:00.43, which was only 0.05 seconds outside the track record.

Harlem produced impressive closing sectional times of 1:34.20 (last 1600m), 1:22.60 (last 1400m), 1:10.19 (last 1200m), 46.13 (last 800m), 34.84 (last 600m) with his final 400 metres in 23.45.

Now prepared at Lindsay Park, Harlem is lightly raced, Saturday being his third win from only 13 starts and with 51 kilograms in next month’s Caulfield Cup (Gr 1, 2400m), which he has now qualified for, he heads there with sound claims.

Others to impress On The Watch in the Naturalism Stakes was the Darren Weir-trained mare Amelie’s Star (Testa Rossa) who came from the tail of the 15-horse field to finish fourth and the Robert Hickmott-trained Sir Isaac Newton (Galileo) who also came from well back to finish sixth.

Amelie’s Star ran very good closing sectional times of 1:34.06 (last 1600m), 1:22.46 (last 1400m), 1:09.94 (last 1200m), 57.90 (last 1000m), 45.92 (last 800m), 34.70 (last 600m) with her final 400 metres in 23.25.

While Sir Isaac Newton returned impressive closing times of 1:33.95 (last 1600m), 1:22.46 (last 1400m), 1:09.82 (last 1200m), 58.07 (last 1000m), 46.16 (last 800m), 34.96 (last 600m) with his final 400 metres in 23.60.

Both are horses to watch over the Spring Carnival.

Another very good performance at Caulfield, was the effort of the four-year-old mare Savanna Amour (Love Conquers All) who showed courage after a taxing trip to win the How Now Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m).

Now with Chris Meagher at Mornington, Savanna Amour worked to find the lead from a wide barrier (11), returning fast early sectional times before holding on to score narrowly from the late-closing pair Legless Veuve (Pins) and Ravi (Redoute’s Choice) in a time of 1:09.42.

Clocked from the 1000 metre mark, Savanna Amour returned 200 metre sections of 10.24, 10.62 (400m in 20.86), 11.31 (600m in 32.17) 11.20 (800m in 43.37) with her final 200 metres in 12.47 to give her a fast last 1000 metres in 55.84.

A winner of the Cockram Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) at Caulfield three weeks prior, Savanna Amour is now a four-time Group winner with six wins from only 12 starts and looks likely to add further to that impressive record judging by Saturday’s game effort.

After seconds at her last two starts, Pinot staked claims for the VRC Oaks (Gr 1, 2500m) with a very good effort in winning here, her first win in four starts to date.

The daughter of Pierro (Lonhro) broke cleanly from barrier one under Stephen Baster and travelled well in third place in the early part of the contest.

After getting along the inner nearing the 200 metre mark, she dashed

to the front shortly afterwards and then raced away to score impressively by almost four lengths in a winning time of 1:50.92.

Pinot is out of the Group One-winning mare Dizelle (Zabeel) making her a half-sister to Listed winner Dizlago (Encosta De Lago) and Group Three-placed Lucky Lago (Encosta De Lago) and a further four winners.

Dizelle herself is out of Group One winner Danelagh (Danehill), who also produced Group One winner Subscribe (Zabeel) and Listed winner Bernicia (Elusive Quality), the dam of Group Two winner Old North (Lonhro) and Listed-placed gelding Bryneich (Lonhro).

In 2015 Dizelle slipped to Fastnet Rock (Danehill) and last year she produced a filly by the Coolmore shuttler and was most recently served by the the Woodside Park Stud-based sire Written Tycoon (Iglesia).

Pierro finished last season as champion first season sire by earnings, with his progeny headed by Group Three winner Tulip. This season he is sitting third in the second season sires’ table in Australia by both winners and earnings. Pinot was one of three metropolitan winners for the Coolmore-based sire on Wednesday, with Octabello’s victory at Flemington and Action scoring at Belmont.

A s the 12 horses bound for Melbourne departed from Heathrow airport at 10pm last night, Newmarket quarantine

gained three new inmates yesterday, as they begin their journey towards the Spring Carnival.

Having been represented in the first batch of quarantine by Cox Plate (Gr 1, 2040m) nominee Riven Light (Raven’s Pass) and Melbourne Cup (Gr 1, 3200m) entrant Wicklow Brave (Beat Hollow), Willie Mullins has entered Max Dynamite (Great Journey), who finished second in the Flemington showpiece in 2015 and looks likely to take his chance in the race again this year. He will be joined by stablemate

Thomas Hobson (Halling), who will be making the trip down to Australia for the first time.

The trio is completed by the Iain Jardine-trained Ebor Handicap (1m6f) winner Nakeeta (Sixties Icon), who will also be aimed at the Melbourne Cup.

Meanwhile, the Lloyd Williams-owned Group Three winner Rekindling (High Chaparral) entered quarantine in Ireland yesterday ahead his trip to Australia where he will be aimed for a tilt in the Melbourne Cup. Trained by Joseph O’Brien, Rekindling won the Ballysax Stakes (Gr 3, 1m2f) in April, before beating fellow Melbourne Cup entrant Wicklow Brave (Beat Hollow) in the Curragh Cup (Gr 2, 1m6f) in July.

The three-year-old was last seen running a fine fourth in the St Leger Stakes (Gr 1, 1m6.5f) earlier in the month.

He will be joined by the Aidan O’Brien-trained Group Three winner US Army Ranger (Galileo), who finished second in last season’s Derby (Gr 1, 1m4f) at Epsom.

“The others are at the airport ready to go. It’s been a smooth turnaround and it’s all going to plan so far,” International Racehorse Transport’s managing director Jim Paltridge told ANZ Bloodstock News yesterday, before the 12 had departed the airport.

“The three came into today - everything seems fine. They have settled in well and have had their first vet checks.”

Kealy gives his view on Qewy’s chances in Australia

Another with a similar profile to Francis Of Assisi in that he had a spell hurdling before returning to the Flat to fulfil his potential and will be well known to Australian punters already. Qewy actually ran for two seasons over hurdles, taking in two Cheltenham Festivals, although he managed only one win in that sphere. However, it was his return to the Flat in 2016 which brought about the improvement as he he finished second in the Ascot Stakes at Royal Ascot and in a decent handicap at Glorious Goodwood, each time beaten a neck. Three runs in Australia resulted in a pair of handicap wins either side of a fine fourth in the Melbourne Cup, albeit beaten nearly seven lengths. Whether he'll be able to repeat that sort of form on his second visit is open to doubt though, as two runs in Britain this season have been way below the form he was showing a year ago.

Qewy (IRE)2010 Bay Gelding

OverviewThe Charlie Appleby-trained Qewy is on

his way to Australia for the second time in his career after a successful Spring Campaign last season, where he won the Geelong and Sandown Cups with these victories split with a fine fourth place performance in the Melbourne Cup.

After a piece of work with fellow Godolphin quarantine inmates Francis Of Assisi (Danehill Dancer), Kidmenever (Baltic King) and Folkswood (Exceed And Excel) on Wednesday before they flew out yesterday, Appleby revealed the seven-year-old gelding would likely follow the same path as last season for his first two runs in Melbourne.

A winner of five of his 27 starts, this record also includes four second place finishes and five third place runs, Qewy broke his maiden over a mile and quarter at Navan in 2013 when trained in Ireland by John Oxx.

His first victory at stakes level came when he won the Heritage Stakes (Listed, 1m) Leopardstown as a three-year-old.

After being purchased by Anthony Stroud for 60,000 guineas at the Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale from the Darley from Currabeg Stables, Ireland (J. Oxx) draft, he was campaigned over hurdles for John Ferguson’s Bloomfields operation, winning once at Newbury.

He finished second in the Ascot Stakes (2m4f) at Royal Ascot in June 2016 on his first run for Appleby, before occupying that same position in the Summer Stakes (1m6f) in July and was then sent to Australia for the spring.

This season he has been campaigned lightly, running first up fourth in the Queen Alexandra Stakes (2m5.5f) at Royal Ascot and was most recently seen running 13th in the Goodwood Cup (Gr 1, 2m).

Qewy is out of Listed-winner Princess Nada (Barathea), making him a half-brother to Listed winner Jordan Princess (Cape Cross) and a three-quarters brother to Group Two winner Emirates Queen (Street Cry). Princess Nada herself is out of Group One winner Zomaradah (Deploy), dam of Darley’s perennial stallion Dubawi (Dubai Millennium)

Analysis: The Anthony Freedman-trained three-year-old gelding Irish Vega staged a good performance in winning here on debut. He was eased from his wide barrier (11), settled back in tenth place in the 14-horse field before moving up (deep) rounding the home turn. He then came with a strong late finish to grab victory on the post in a really promising effort.

Analysis: Archie Alexander-trained filly Temple Of Bel put up a good effort in scoring here. Having her third race start and her second run this preparation, she settled in sixth place (wide with cover), before moving up nicely nearing the home turn. She went to second at the 200m and finished far too well over the closing stages for a good win, looking suited to the step up to 1400m.

Analysis: Gerald Ryan-trained filly State Of Play may have Oaks potential. Advancing to 2000m here at her fifth race start, she began well and raced in second place, with the leader (Dashing Special) setting a good tempo. She got the better of that runner nearing the home turn, dashed clear on straightening and then went on to score easily in smart time.

VERDICT A first running of this formerly Listed contest as a Group 3 today.3yos have a fine record in the race recently and that trend may

well continue with FLEUR FORSYTE and Elas Ruby from the Classic generationlooking to have the strongest credentials today. The latter has some good form andshould go very well as John Gosden seeks a third consecutive win in this race butpreference is for Fleur Forsyte, who improved significantly to win in Listed companyat York last time and has the profile of a filly likely to come on again today. Oldermare Elbereth is best of the rest, ahead of York disappointment Mori, who hasstrong form claims if back to the form of her previous second in the Ribblesdale. [MelCullinan]

VERDICT This may well be won by NYALETI (nap), who sets a goodstandard on plenty of her form, including when a close third from

the front at Doncaster last time. This drop back from 1m is a plus if anything and shecan add a second Group-race success to her CV after her 5l success in an AscotGroup 3 in July. The unbeaten pair Gavota and Lightening Quick may be themain dangers, ahead of Butterscotch, who like the selection is a very possiblefront-runner. [Mel Cullinan]

VERDICT ABINGDON has her sights lowered here after facing threedifficult assignments since a good win at Pontefract. She has a

realistic chance against a home-team in which two of Aidan O’Brien’s three runnersare potentially dangerous, Long Island Sound, who won this event last season, and War Decree, winner of last year’s Vintage Stakes at Goodwood. Aneen couldgo well at a decent price. [Alan Sweetman]

VERDICT A well-contested Group 2 in which ZONDERLAND may be theanswer. This comparatively lightly raced 4yo ran a cracker when

just edged out in a Goodwood Group 2 when back from a year off last month and hasstrong claims on that form, even without the possibility of his being a bit sharper thistime. Beat The Bank is the clear main danger, ahead of fellow last-time-out Group3 winner Mustashry. [Mel Cullinan]
