Classic Uniform kicked for home at the entrance to the straight, but Collett always appeared confident and produced Shiraz to challenge with around 250 metres to race.

The runner-up battled back in the closing stages, but Shiraz was always doing just enough to land the $150,000 race, with Slightly Sweet finishing well for third place having briefly been stopped in her tracks just inside the 200 metres.

Wyong-based Waugh revealed after the race that Shiraz has injured his foot earlier in his preparation and had to race with resin in his hoof.

"He pulled a shoe off early in his preparation and took half his foot off," Waugh said.

"We've had to put Equilox (hoof resin) in it. And then he got hit in the nose and tried to bite Josh Parr.

"He can be a cranky boy but he's a lovely horse."He had worked really well at home and if I didn't think he was worth

going on with, I would have stopped."Winning rider Collett added that he tried to bide his time for as long as

possible in the home straight to ensure Shiraz got his head back in front."I was trying not to go too soon," Collett said."He still doesn't relax properly and I had to hold him up and then the

run opened on the fence and it was a good win."Shiraz (7 g Zariz - Moville Slipper by Moville Dancer) has now won

11 and placed in five of his 32 career starts for prize money earnings of $782,035.

One of six named foals out of the multiple winning mare Moville Slipper (Moville Dancer), Shiraz is a brother to the winning filly Zinderella, herself a successful broodmare, and a further two placed horses.

His second dam Moville Clare (Aythorpe) has produced three winners from seven foals to race, while his family can be traced further back to stakes winners New Slipper (Newtown Wonder) and Bay Folly (Jedgar Ruler).

Bowman Secures Fourth Sydney Premiership

Jockey Hugh Bowman secured his fourth Sydney jockeys’ premiership at Rosehill yesterday, riding a double to head up the metropolitan standings with 83 winners.

Brenton Avdulla finished in second placed with 78.5 winners after drawing a blank at the final city meeting of the season, with Tim Clark third on 66 winners.

The jockey, who also guided home 13 Group One winners during the 2016-17 campaign, partnered the Chris Waller-trained juvenile D’Argento (So You Think) to victory in the opening race and followed up in race four aboard Prada Miss (Northern Meteor).

“I’m very proud of what I’ve been able to do. It was a really good goal and having been run down by Nash (Rawiller) a couple of years ago, it gives me great satisfaction that I was in a position where Brenton was commanding but I was able to stay focused and get the job done,” Bowman said.

“I’ll be honest. I read an article on the way to Brisbane written by (Australian Bloodstock’s) Luke Murrell who had rated the top five jockeys in the country and he had Brenton on top, Kerrin second and I think I was fourth. That was pretty motivational.

“He was rating me fourth because I wasn’t consistent enough so I thought okay, I’ll see if I can get better.”

Bowman also had words of support for 27-year-old runner-up Avdulla, who held a commanding advantage in the premiership heading into the winter.

“I understand that he’d be disappointed but I think he’ll be a better rider for it. There is nowhere to hide at the top level and I found that out the hard way,” Bowman said.

“Brenton will look back on his best season to date, and by a significant margin. I congratulate him and think he should be very proud of himself.”

Bandipur Wins Lightning Stakes For Godolphin

The promising rising three-year-old Bandipur (Commands) ran out a ready winner of the SAJC Lightning Stakes (Listed, 1050m) at Morphettville yesterday to give James Cummings a first stakes success since taking over as Godolphin head trainer.

Sunday 30 July 2017 Bandipur Wins Lightning Stakes For Godolphin

The colt showed a smart turn of foot in testing conditions to beat Arkham Knight (Reaan) ($26) by a length and a quarter in the $100,000 sprint, with Mystified (Wanted) ($11) a further half a length behind in third.

The Team Hawkes-trained $2.40 favourite Ducimus (Snitzel) attempted to get across to lead shortly after the start from the his outside draw in barrier 13, but Magnatti (Magnus) ($12) was also ridden forward by Noel Callow and the pair set strong early fractions amid heavy rain.

Jockey Dom Tourneur always appeared confident aboard Bandipur, easing the $5 second favourite into a challenging position at the top of the straight before asking him to stretch approaching the 200 metres.

The son of Commands (Danehill) lengthened well to win impressively on a Soft 7 track, and trainer James Cummings was understandably pleased to register his first stakes victory in his new role.

"We were thinking about the Vain Stakes but David Charles in Melbourne rang me to say there was a stakes race coming up in Adelaide," Cummings said.

"So we thought if he did particularly well we would have a crack at a black-type race.

"It's great to get off the mark with a stakes win for Sheikh Mohammed."The Darley-bred Bandipur (2 c Commands - Pattamada by Viscount)

has now won twice, breaking his maiden by eight lengths at Moe in June, and placed once in four career starts for prize money earnings of $94,980.

He is the first of two named foals to race out of the winning mare Pattamada (Viscount), who is herself a sister to the 2009 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m) winner Neroli.

His winning second dam Dalquarren (Canny Lad) has produced nine winners from ten foals to race and is a half-sister to the stakes-placed dam of 2011 BRC T J Smith Stakes (now the J J Atkins Stakes) (Gr 1, 1600m) winner and stakes-producing sire Benfica (Lonhro).

Bandipur’s third dam Ivy Cottage (Star Way) won five times, was placed at Listed level and is a half-sister to multiple Group One-winning and Group Two-producing mare Riverina Charm (Sir Tristram), while this is also the family of Group Three winner Big Tree (Snitzel).

In winning the SAJC Lightning Stakes, Bandipur became the 74th stakes winner for his late sire Commands (Danehill).

Profit Street Opens Stakes AccountThe Peter and Matthew Giadresco-trained Profit Street (Viscount)

came from last to first to win the H G Bolton Sprint (Listed, 1200m) at Belmont yesterday, securing his first stakes success.

The rising six-year-old quickened up well on the outside of the field under Brad Parnham to beat Flying Time (Heritage) ($11) by a length and

a quarter in the $100,000 feature, with It’s It (Knowledge) ($8.50) a further two and three quarter lengths behind in third.

The gelding has been in good form this preparation and was sent off the $3.60 second favourite behind First Among Equals (Exceed And Excel) ($3.50) following a narrow last start success over 1300 metres at the same track on 15 July.

He was ridden with confidence by Parnham, who still had Profit Street restrained in last upon entering the straight, and the gelding stormed home once asked for his effort to win going away on the Heavy 8 track.

Co-trainer Matthew Giadresco said Profit Street has been running well under big weights in handicaps this preparation and was expected to go close with just 54 kilograms on his back in the Listed race.

“He has been racing great his prep. I’m really happy, he has been going great. I rode him on Thursday and he felt brilliant underneath me,” co-trainer Matthew Giadresco said.

“He’s got a good turn of foot and he can carry (big) weights. He hasn’t had 54 kilos in a year. He won really well then and he won really well today.

“Brad rode him well. He was a little bit tardy at the start, but he was able to loom him up, get him balanced and kick away.”

Winning rider Parnham, who finished third in the Perth jockeys’ premiership behind runaway winner William Pike, was impressed with Profit Street’s turn of foot.

“I knew we had a chance coming into the race and when it was raining I thought it would make it a bit harder for (top weight) First Among Equals,” Parnham said.

“I just rode him cold early, the boys just told me to take it easy and wait until I straighten up and that he should have a very good turn of foot.

“They were right, when we straightened up he let down brilliantly and he was just too good for them.”

The consistent Profit Street (5 g Viscount - Street Show by Zeditave) has now won nine and placed in seven of his 21 career starts for prize money earnings of $317,300.

The gelding is one of six named foals out of the unraced mare Street Show (Zeditave), herself a half-sister to the dam of dual Group One-winning champion filly Delicacy (Al Maher), making him a half-brother to five winners.

His second dam is the multiple stakes winner Street Talk (Marauding), while this is also the family of stakes winner Palladium Star (Palace Music) and Group Three placegetter Kena (Kenvain).

Profit Street’s victory also provided the late Viscount (Quest For Fame) with his 12th stakes winner.

74 For CommandsThe Godolphin-trained Bandipur (2 c ex Pattamada by Viscount) ran out a comfortable winner of the SAJC Lightning Stakes (Listed, 1050m) at Morphettville yesterday and in the process provided the late Darley sire Commands (Danehill) with his 74th stakes winner. The rising three-year-old showed a good turn of foot to beat Arkham Knight (Reaan) by a length and a quarter, with Mystified (Wanted) a further half a length behind in third. The win also provided Godolphin’s new trainer James Cummings with his first stakes success since taking over the role for the operation. Commands died at Darley Kelvinside in 2014, aged 17.

12 For ViscountThe late sire Viscount (Quest For Fame) sired his 12th stakes winner when the Peter and Matthew Giadresco-trained Profit Street (5 g ex Street Show by Zeditave) came from last to first to win the H G Bolton Sprint Handicap (Listed, 1200m) at Belmont yesterday. The rising six-year-old beat Flying Time (Heritage) by just over a length with another two and three quarter lengths back to It’s It (Knowledge) in third. Profit Street was purchased by Peter Giadresco for $77,500 at the Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale in 2013 from the Korilya Stud draft.

Caulfield Called OffThe Bletchingly Stakes (Gr 3, 1200m) meeting at Caulfield was postponed yesterday after four races because of safety concerns over strong winds and the meeting will now take place at Sandown Lakeside a week today. Deputy chairman of stewards Robert Cram said the wind had been up to 70 kilometres an hour with gusts of 90 kilometres an hour and a majority of riders who were to compete in the fifth race voted not to continue. “Damian Lane’s horse (Written Era) broke through the

gate (prior to the fourth race) and at the end of the day it was agreed that it was unsafe,” said Victorian Jockeys’ Association CEO Matthew Hyland “When the wind is down and the horses are galloping it’s not a problem but when you get one of those massive gusts of wind and they’re galloping then it becomes dangerous.”

Bendigo Cup Aim For KiwiaTrainer Darren Weir has said a tilt in the Bendigo Cup (Gr 3, 2400m) on 1 November could be on the agenda for Kiwia (Reset) following his length victory over Benall (Blackfriars) in the VOBIS Gold Stayers (2400m) at Caulfield yesterday. Weir revealed his racing manager Jeremy Rogers advised him to target the $150,000 race following his win at Ballarat in May. "Jeremy said this is the race you've got to set him for," Weir said. "It's a terrific prize-money race with all the bonuses so it's a great race to win. If I don't think he'll measure up (in the Bendigo Cup) we won't run him but if we think otherwise that's where he'll be headed. He'll go to the farm now for three weeks and go on the water walker. We won't be able to turn him out so he'll freshen up."

Shamport Lands Gold IngotShamport (Shamardal) quickly followed up his stablemate Kiwia’s victory with an impressive win in the VOBIS Gold Ingot (1400m) on the same card to provide trainer Darren Weir with a double yesterday. The rising three-year-old colt was coming into the race having finished third on debut at Echuca on 10 July and he powered home strongly to beat Confluence (Denman) by just over two lengths with another three quarters of a length back to Mulk (Sepoy) in third. “This is a really nice horse,” Weir told Racing.com. “The best part of his race today was the further they got into the race the stronger he got and on the line he did it quite

easily in the end. I think once he gets up further in distance, as his pedigree suggests, then he’s going to be a nice horse. He’ll go up to the farm for a few weeks on the water walker and then we’ll bring him back for the spring.”

Every Faith Wins On Penultimate StartStakes-winning mare Every Faith (Not A Single Doubt) snapped a ten-race losing streak when she won yesterday’s Janet Brady Handicap (1200m) at Caulfield. The Robert Smerdon-trained mare, who was having her penultimate start before retiring to the breeding barn, where she looks set to be covered by Darley shuttler Medaglia d’Oro (El Prado), beat Divine Chills (Artie Schiller) by a short-head with the same distance back to Sullivan Bay (Nicconi) in third. "She's a really nice mare and it was probably her second-last run today," Smerdon said. "She'll probably have one more. But the float has been booked and she's off to stud after that.” The rising seven-year-old has now won six of her 39 career starts, including the 2014 Laelia Stakes (Listed, 1600m).

Saint Valorem Leaves It LateThe Cameron Templeton-trained Saint Valorem (Ad Valorem) showed an impressive turn of foot to come from last to first to win the Jason Hart Handicap (1100m) at Caulfield yesterday. The gelding, who was last seen running fifth at Sandown Hillside, was settled in last for jockey Brian Higgins and swept home down the outside to defeat Tango Rock (Fastnet Rock) by a neck, with Certain Ellie (Not A Single Doubt) a further one and a half lengths away in third. “I’ve always rated him even though he’s unfashionably bred (by Ad Valorem) and is only little but he’s got a big ticker and he tries hard,” said Templeton. “It was a race I’d earmarked for him. The owners were a bit disappointed the other day but I said we were on track for second up and I’m glad he proved me right.”

Magic Millions Aim For ArbeitsamFollowing Arbeitsam’s (Snitzel) victory in yesterday’s Sydney Spring Carnival On Sale Plate (1400m) at Rosehill, co-trainer Gai Waterhouse is now eyeing a Magic Millions win with the gelding. Sent off the $3.70 favourite, he made all the running and stayed on well for pressure inside the final 100 metres to hold off the late challenge from The Pharoah (Snitzel) by a length with Reach Of Heaven (Savabeel) just over a length away in third. Waterhouse says she will aim the gelding at either the Magic Millions Cup (RL, 1400m) or the Magic Millions Trophy (2200m) in January. "He's an improving type, a lovely sort of horse," Waterhouse said.

D'Argento Impresses At RosehillTrainer Chris Waller, who landed his seventh consecutive New South Wales metropolitan premiership yesterday, believes D'Argento (So You Think) is a stakes horse in the making, but is yet to decide which races he will target with the rising three-year-old. The colt, who is now unbeaten in two starts having won on debut at Newcastle on 15 July, defeated Runaway (Manhattan Rain) by a neck with just over two lengths back to Almighty (Exceed And Excel) in third over 1500 metres at Rosehill yesterday. “My gut tells me just back off and wait for the end of the spring. It’d be easy to target races like the Gloaming and Spring Champion but my gut tells me to wait for a Carbine Club at the end of the spring,” said Waller. “It all comes down to what we are going to have across the stable in the first part of the spring. He’ll tell us on Monday whether he’ll go the paddock for a couple of weeks or stay in work.”

Vaucluse Bay Follows UpLater in the afternoon, D’Argento’s stablemate Vaucluse Bay (Al Maher) added a second victory on the day for Waller when he impressively took out a Benchmark 85 (2000m) at Rosehill. The rising four-year-old gelding came into the race having won a Benchmark 74 (1800m) at the track on 15 July and yesterday he defeated More Than Fabulous (More Than Ready) by four lengths with just a short head back to Life O’Brien (High Chaparral) in third. "He's come of age this preparation. Today was by far his most

impressive win," Waller said. "It was a typical Corey Brown ride, 10 out of 10. He found the right spot and makes it a lot easier for horses. He should win another race based on that pretty quick. We'll look for a race in two weeks. If not, we'll go three weeks.”

Widdup Posts First Saturday City WinWith Suspenders (Snitzel) winning the Benchmark 72 (1200m) at Rosehill yesterday it provided trainer Brad Widdup with his first metropolitan city win. The gelding stayed on strongly all the way to the line to beat Slumber Party (Snitzel) by just a head with just over a length back to Faith’s Encore (Denman) in third. Widdup sent out first his runner on 29 May and has now had five winners from 15 starters. "Things are going really well," Widdup said.

Basara Shows Class On DebutThe Tony Sears-trained Basara (Nicconi) lived up to her pre-race hype when she won on debut over 1050 metres at Doomben yesterday. Sears said Basara had taken time to get to the races because of repeated shin soreness but he always knew she had a lot of ability, with the filly having beaten The Phoenix Stakes (Listed, 1350m) winner Pardoe (Red Dazzler) by six lengths in a barrier trial earlier this year. Yesterday she showed a good attitude to beat Too Easy Bro (All Too Hard) by three quarters of a length with another head back to Perfect Rain (Manhattan Rain) in third."Pardoe would have been odds-on here. Basara has worked very well with older horses and usually beats them,” said Sears.

Step Up Trip Proves Key For Mr EpicMr Epic (Husson) had no problems with the step up in distance at Doomben yesterday, posting an impressive performance to win the D A Ernst Open Handicap (2000m). The Toby Edmonds-trained rising five-year-old gelding had not won since September 2016, but yesterday he scored a three quarter length victory over King Viv (Falkirk) with just a head back to Monteaux (Medaglia d’Oro) in third. "He was bit flat-paced at his last start at 1600 metres and we thought he was looking for the 2000 metres," Edmonds

said. "It was a clever ride by Matt (McGillivray, jockey) but Mr Epic did have to make two runs so it was a strong effort. There are a few races for him coming up - the Lismore Cup, Taree Cup, Port Macquarie Cup and the like."

Oxford Poet Provides Waugh With DoubleTrainer Kim Waugh celebrated a two state-double yesterday when Oxford Poet (Dylan Thomas) won the Spring Racing Handicap (1350m) at Doomben, 15 minutes after Shiraz’s (Zariz) victory in the Winter Challenge (Listed, 1500m) at Rosehill. By beating Inz’n’Out (Zariz) by a neck, Oxford Poet snapped a seven-race losing streak, having not been successful since he took out the Winter Stakes (Listed, 1400m) at Rosehill last July. "Kim will have to decide whether to head to Sydney or come back here but Oxford Poet might get a bit of weight here now," said winning jockey Damian Browne. "He is a nice, big horse who handled the 58.5 kilograms today. Kim does a great job with her horses and he was able to get into a perfect trail today." Poseidon's Pool Remains UnbeatenThe Darren Weir-trained Poseidon's Pool (Pierro) retained his unbeaten record when he put in an impressive performance in the Medallion Homes 2YO Handicap (1050m) at Morphettville yesterday. A winner over 1000 metres at Ballarat on debut, the Darren Weir-trained two-year-old gelding beat Sharing Secrets (Testa Rossa) by just under a length with just a short-head back to La La Luchie (Medaglia d’Oro) in third. Poseidon's Pool is one of eight individual winners for Coolmore’s Pierro (Lonhro), who looks set to be crowned champion first season sire in Australia this season by earnings.

Sixth Title For WilliamsJockey Craig Williams said he is ready to relax after winning a sixth Melbourne jockeys' premiership at Caulfield yesterday. A win on Shamport (Shamardal) in one of the four races on Saturday's program, which was abandoned due to strong winds, gave Williams a 77-73 victory over apprentice Beau Mertens. "It's been a great season," Williams said. "It was a great fight with Beau, who was riding so well

and consistently throughout the whole season. All the people around me worked hard and were very supportive," Williams said. “This premiership is also for them.”

Bowman Cops SuspensionHugh Bowman ended the season with the Sydney jockeys' premiership and a seven-meeting suspension for careless riding at Rosehill. Bowman was outed after pleading guilty to a charge over an incident in the penultimate race on Saturday that also resulted in his mount Wild'n'Famous (Fast ‘N’ Famous) being relegated to second following a protest, after Andrew Adkins successfully argued Most Exalted (Street Cry) was denied victory in the ATC Thanks Our Owners Handicap (1350m) saying Bowman allowed Wild'n'Famous to shift out at the 200 metre mark. Bowman, who was due to miss next week’s meetings with the jockey taking part in the Kokoda Track, can resume riding on 13 August.

Brighthill Farm Stallion Parade TodayThe Brighthill Farm Stallion Parade will take place today, with the farm set to parade their new stallion multiple Group One winner Preferment (Zabeel). The former Chris Waller-trained entire retired from racing in June and will stand his first season at stud for NZ$12,500 (plus GST). Preferment’s barn mates Dalghar (Anabaa) and Perfectly Ready (More Than Ready) will also be shown at the parade, which gets underway 2pm.

ATC Donates To Jockeys’ Kokoda FundThe Australian Turf Club (ATC) has donated $5,000 to a fundraising trek along the Kokoda Track in aid of the National Jockeys Trust and brain cancer charity Mark Hughes Foundation. Jockeys Jockeys Hugh Bowman, Kathy O'Hara and Corey Brown, who are among a group of five walking the Papua New Guinea trail next week for the two charities, were on hand at Rosehill to accept the cheque. Victorian-based jockey Stephen Baster and model Kris Smith are joining Bowman, O'Hara and Brown for the four-day hike and donations can be made at walking2help.com.au.

Three For YeatsGentil Tointon (6 g ex Champaka by Caerleon) ran out a ready winner of the Taumarunui Gold Cup (Listed, 2200m) at Arawa Park yesterday and in the process provide his sire Yeats (Sadler’s Wells) with his third stakes winner. The six-year-old gelding, who had not won since April last year, beat Pump Up The Volume (Savabeel) by half a length with three quarters of a length back to last year’s winner Jochen Rindt (Ishiguru) in third. Gentil Tointon joins Frenzified and Lord Yeats as the sire’s other stakes winners and he stands at Coolmore’s Castlehyde Stud for a fee of €6,500.

Change Of Scene Helps Gentil TontonTrainer John Bell has put Gentil Tonton’s change of form down to the a change of environment, with the well-travelled gelding having just his second for Bell, who also owns the rising seven-year-old. A two-time winner in his native Ireland for Patrick Prendergast, Gentil Tonton then had one start in Hong Kong for Gary Moore before he transferred to the Cambridge stable of Trevor and Martin Cruz. He was successful three times for the Cruz’s and scored another victory for Lance O’Sullivan and Andrew Scott prior to him joining Bell’s operation last month. “When they come into a new stable they can sometimes grow another leg,” Bell said. “He’s a lovely horse. We’ll look for something for him now without travelling too far.”

Treble For WeatherleyGentil Tonton was also the second leg of a treble on the day for apprentice jockey Sam Weatherley. The rider guided Bowie (Iffraaj) to win a Benchmark 85 (1560m) in the fifth race on the card, before winning the Taumarunui Gold Cup in the next race and he completed the treble in race seven, riding Mandalay (Showcasing) to an easy six length victory over 2200 metres. The treble took Weatherley’s tally for the season to 67 and a clear-cut win in the apprentice jockeys’ premiership.

Hello M’Lady Posts Another Easy WinStakes-placed mare Hello M’Lady (Shocking) posted another easy victory at Arawa Park yesterday when running away with the

Maketu Gentlemen’s Club (1215m). The Vicki Prendergast-trained three-year-old mare was most recently seen scoring an equally easy victory at the track on 28 June and yesterday she inflicted the first defeat on Liquid Inspiration (Iffraaj) by beating him by two and a quarter lengths with another length and a quarter back to Savasava (Savabeel) in third. “She doesn’t like the summer, she loves the winter and the cooler weather,” Prendergast said. “We just want to build up her rating points so we can get in a bigger race later on.”

Be Bee Heads Juvenile Championship FieldThe unbeaten New Zealand-bred Be Bee (Showcasing) heads a field of ten runners for today’s Juvenile Championship (SGP Gr 3, 1400m) at Kranji. The gelding has won both of his starts in Singapore, taking out the Golden Horseshoe (SGP Gr 2, 1200m) by a length and three quarters at his last start on 7 July. Charger (Dick Turpin) was second to Be Bee in the local Group Two and will bid to reverse form in the hands of Craig Grylls, while the New Zealand stakes-placegetter Mr Hanks (Showcasing) will attempt to put his disappointing Golden Horseshoe performance behind him for Vlad Duric. Success Days Makes All In York StakesIrish raider Success Days (5 h Jeremy - Malaica by Roi Gironde) made all the running to win the York Stakes (Gr 2, 1m2.5f) at York yesterday. The Ken Condon-trained entire was allowed to dictate at a steady tempo on the front end in the early stages, and jockey Shane Foley began to increase the pace as the seven-runner field approached the final three furlongs. Dual Grade One winner Mondialiste (Galileo) threw down a stiff challenge inside the final furlong, but Success Days held on bravely to win by a nose, with the patiently ridden Hathal (Speightstown) a further length and a quarter behind in a never nearer third. Success Days is one of three Group Two winners for his late sire Jeremy (Danehill Dancer).

62 For ArchThe Mark Johnston-trained Nyaleti (2 f ex American Nova by Verglas) ran out a decisive winner of the Princess Margaret Stakes (Gr 3, 6f) at Ascot yesterday to provide her late sire Arch (Kris S) with his 62nd stakes winner. The filly had finished second in both the Chesham Stakes (Listed, 7f) and Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes (Gr 2, 6f) at her last two starts and proved far too strong for her six rivals, quickening clear just over a furlong out to beat the previously unbeaten Dance Diva (Mayson) by five lengths, with Musical Art (Dutch Art) a further length and three quarters behind in third. Former Claiborne Farm stallion Arch died at the age of 21 last year.

Five For MaysonThe Karl Burke-trained Raydiance (2 c ex Iridescence by Dutch Art) won the Pat Eddery Stakes (Listed, 7f) at Ascot yesterday to provide Mayson (Invincible Spirit) with his fifth stakes winner. The promising colt travelled smoothly into contention under champion jockey Jim Crowley and knuckled down well to fend off Another Batt (Windsor Knot) by a neck, with Alba Power (Fast Company) a further two and a quarter lengths further behind in third place. Mayson won the 2012 July Cup (Gr 1, 6f) and stood for a fee of £6,000 at Cheveley Park Stud in Newmarket this year.

25 For MotivatorVue Fantastique (3 f ex Exit The Straight by Exit To Nowhere) took out the Prix de Psyche (Gr 3, 2000m) at Deauville

yesterday to provide her sire Motivator (Montjeu) with his 25th stakes winner. The Fabrice Chappet-trained filly, who ran second behind the Charlie Appleby-trained Sobetsu (Dubawi) in the Prix Saint-Alary (Gr 1, 2000m) at the same track in May, beat Listen In (Sea The Stars) by half a length, with Onthemoonagain (Cape Cross) just a short-neck further behind in a close up third. Motivator stood for a fee of €10,000 at Haras Du Quesnay this year and his progeny are headed by dual Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (Gr 1, 2400m) winner Treve.

36 For KodiacIzzy Bizu (2 f ex Dame Hester by Diktat) won the Prix Six Perfections (Listed, 1400m) at Deauville yesterday to provide Kodiac (Danehill) with his 36th stakes winner and trainer Mark Johnson with a stakes double on both sides of the English Channel. The filly battled on well to beat Model (Mastercraftsman) by a short-neck under Ioritz Mendizabal, with Hergame (Motivator) just a short-head further behind in a close third. Kodiac stood for a fee of €50,000 at Tally-Ho Stud in Ireland this year.

Eight For Nombre PremierCox Bazar (3 g ex Dame De Montlebeau by Dyhim Diamond) won the Prix du Cercle (Listed, 1000m) at Deauville yesterday to provide Nombre Premier (Kendor) with his eighth stakes winner. The progressive Christophe Ferland-trained gelding, who had won his previous two starts at Fontainebleau and La Teste De Buch, beat Son Cesio (Zafeen) by a

length and a quarter, with Encore d’Or (Oasis Dream) a further two and a half lengths behind in third. Nombre Premier’s progeny are headed by Group Two winner Vertigineux.

120 For Fastnet RockThe William Haggas-trained Entsar (4 f ex Starfish by Galileo) ran out a convincing winner of the Lyric Stakes (Listed, 1m2.5f) at York on Friday evening and in the process provided Coolmore shuttler Fastnet Rock (Danehill) with this 120th stakes winner. The four-year-old had been placed at stakes level when running third in the Nottinghamshire Oaks (Listed, 1m2f) on 31 May and yesterday she stayed on strongly to beat Ajman Princess (Teofilo) by a length and a quarter with the same distance back to Playful Sound (Street Cry) in third. Fastnet Rock will stand again this year for a private fee.

First For The Carbon UnitThe Thistle Farm-based stallion The Carbon Unit (Catienus) sired his first stakes winner when the John Patrick Shanahan-trained The Tartan Spartan (4 c ex The Real Thing by Traditionally) showed a good attitude to land Friday evening’s Her Majesty’s Plate (Listed, 1m6f) at Down Royal. The four-year-old, who was last seen running fifth in the Prix La Moskowa (Listed, 3000m) at Chantilly in June, clearly relished the step back in trip, beating Twilight Payment (Teofilo) by a length and a half with Grandee (Lope De Vega) just a head away in third. The Carbon Unit stands at Thistle Farm in Ireland for a private fee.

The dual Oaks (Gr 1, 1m4f) winner Enable (Nathaniel) ran out a hugely impressive winner of the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth

Stakes (Gr 1, 1m4f) at Ascot yesterday, following in the footsteps of her sire and grandsire.

Nathaniel (Galileo) won the 2011 King George, and his daughter stormed clear in driving rain to beat Ulysses (Galileo) by four and a half lengths, with Idaho (Galileo) a further three quarters of a length behind in third.

Her champion grandsire Galileo (Sadler’s Wells) also won the feature in 2001, and sired the second, third and fourth home in yesterday’s £1,150,000 race.

The John Gosden-trained filly was sent off the well-backed 5/4 favourite and travelled powerfully throughout in the hands of Frankie Dettori on rain-softened ground as the Godolphin-raced Maverick Wave (Elusive Quality) cut out the early running.

Enable and Jack Hobbs (Halling) moved up to contest the lead at the top of the straight, but the brilliant Juddmonte Farms-bred filly left that rival trailing and shot clear to beat Ulysses, who moved strongly for a long way, with Idaho running on to take third.

Defending champion Highland Reel (Galileo) struggled on the testing ground and could only manage a fourth place finish under Ryan Moore.

Former champion trainer John Gosden, who also saddled three-year-old filly Taghrooda (Sea The Stars) to win the prestigious Group One in 2014, hailed Enable as one of the best he has trained, adding that the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (Gr 1, 2400m) in October would be her ultimate goal.

“Frankie (Dettori) was bold. It wasn’t the plan to sit that close to the pace, but he thinks she’s the best, she’s getting the weight from the older (horses). She’s as good a filly as I’ve ever trained,” Gosden said.

Enable Destroys King George Field

“Taghrooda and her were brilliant fillies to win this race. We always planned the Yorkshire Oaks (next), then a nice pause with no trials, then on to the one in Paris.”

Winning rider Dettori last rode the winner of the race in 2004 aboard Doyen (Sadler’s Wells), and he echoed the sentiments of Gosden.

"She's as good as I've ridden, to win the King George by four lengths - she is the real deal and I love her so much,” he said.

Sir Michael Stoute, who has trained the winner of the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth on five occasions, declared himself pleased with the performance of runner-up and last start Eclipse Stakes (Gr 1, 1m2f) winner Ulysses.

"I am delighted with him. We like him on better ground, but we were beaten by a very good filly,” Stoute told Sportinglife.com.

"He is very versatile. He gets a mile and a half no problem and we have to be very pleased. We can do ten (furlongs), we can do 12 and we don't have to worry about soft ground. We have choices. I will look at him and see how he takes it."

Bred and raced by Juddmonte Farms, Enable (3 f Nathaniel - Concentric by Sadler's Wells) is out of the Listed-winning Sadler’s Wells (Northern Dancer) mare Concentric, whose three foals to race have all been winners.

Concentric herself is out of the Group Three winner Apogee (Shirley Heights) making her a sister to Group Two winner Dance Routine, the dam of multiple Group / Grade One winner Flintshire (Dansili) and Listed winner Dance Moves (Dansili).

Meanwhile, Concentric is also a half-sister to the Group Three winner Apsis (Barathea) and Listed winner Space Quest (Rainbow Quest), who produced Listed winner Kocab (Unfuwain).

Since producing Enable, Concentric has foaled a colt by Dansili (Danehill), named Centroid, who is unraced and in 2016 she produced a filly by the Juddmonte Farms-based sire.

Nathaniel, whose oldest crop are three-year-olds, has sired three stakes winners including Enable, the others being Listed winners God Given and Natavia, and he stood at Newsells Park this season for a fee of £17,500.

OverviewGroup Three-winning sprinter Sooboog will join the Kitchwin Hills

roster and commence stud duties this spring. The son of Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice) won three and placed in four of

his 17 career starts, amassing career prize money earnings of $272,575.Sooboog was purchased from the Arrowfield Stud draft for

$1,500,000 by Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale in 2014 and went on to finish second in the ATC Breeders’ Plate (Listed, 1000m) on his debut for Team Hawkes.

He ran sixth in the Kindergarten Stakes (Gr 3, 1100m) at his next start, and after two victories over 1100 metres, he was transferred from the Hawkes’ stable to premier Melbourne trainer Darren Weir in May 2016.

The change of scenery had an instant impact, with the colt running a long neck second in the Euclase Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) at Morphettville on his stable debut, and he went on to register a first stakes success with a comfortable victory in the Aurie's Star Handicap (Gr 3, 1200m) at Flemington in August last year.

"He got into a good rhythm and when he can do that he's a really good galloper," Weir said after the Group Three.

Sooboog is one of eight named foals out of the unraced mare Monte Rosa (Fraar), herself a sister to Adelaide Guineas (Gr 3, 1600m) winner Nina Haraka, has produced seven winners from seven foals to race, including top-class Gerald Ryan-trained Lightning Stakes (Gr 1, 1000m) winner Snitzerland, who is also by Snitzel.

As well as Snitzerland and Sooboog, Monte Rosa has also produced

juvenile winner and Debutant Stakes (Listed, 1000m) placegetter Red Dress Marley (Hussonet).

Monte Rosa’s sister Nina Haraka is the dam of Walter Brown Stakes (Listed, 1310m) winner and Thousand Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) placegetter Extension Of Time (Dash For Cash).

Sooboog also comes from the family of Hit It Misty (Hit It Benny), a half-sister to Group Two winners Tennessee Jack (Whiskey Road) and Tennessee Vain (Whiskey Road), who herself produced three stakes winners including Maribyrnong Plate (Gr 2, 1000m) winner Tennessee

Morn (Bletchingly).Sooboog will stand for an introductory fee of $13,200 (inc GST) at

Kitchwin Hills in New South Wales.

Analysis: Racing on a Heavy 11 track, six-year-old Irish-bred gelding Gentil Tonton broke through for his first stakes win in 27 starts and his first win in 12 months in scoring here for new trainer John Bell. He settled just beyond midfield in the 12-horse field before improving nicely between runners at the 800m. He went deep (under riding) on straightening and kept plugging well in the conditions to grab a good win nearing the post. Pump Up The Volume was back in second last place before going wide from the 800m. He was deepest of all on turning for home, challenged at the 100m and fought well under his 59.5kg for a second in a sound effort after conceding the winner 6.5kg. The favourite and winner of this race last year, Jochen Rindt was second early on before taking the lead at the 1400m. He stuck to the rails on turning for home and weakened over the latter stages in the conditions after running a bold race to hold the minor placing.

Analysis: Godolphin-raced two-year-old colt Bandipur has now raced four times for two wins and he impressed in taking out his first win at stakes level here. He settled in sixth place, between runners, before improving nicely nearing the home turn. He took the lead shortly afterwards and then went on to score well in the Soft 7 conditions, seemingly with something in hand. Three-year-old Arkham Knight was eighth, between runners, before switching across heels and into clear running on straightening. He challenged at the 100m and then battled on well under 59kg for second finding his younger rival with 5kg less too smart. Three-year-

old filly Mystified had a nice trip in fifth place, between runners, before challenging on turning for home. She then battled on well for a good third. Showpero was handy on the rails and held on for (2.9 lengths) fourth while the favourite, Team Hawkes-trained two-year-old colt Ducimus was quickly away from his outside barrier (13) before racing outside the leader (Magnatti). He tired in the latter stages for (3.2 lengths) fifth in a sound first up effort after working in the early stages.

Analysis: Rising eight-year-old Shiraz put up a good effort in breaking through for his first win here since taking out the 2015 Concorde Stakes (Gr 3, 1000m) at Randwick almost two years ago. He was given a good trip by Jason Collett in third place on the rails before getting along the inner to challenge at the 200m. He then responded to patient hands and heels riding to score well, albeit by a narrow margin. Classic Uniform

went to the front, set quite a good tempo and fought back gamely when challenged in the straight for second in a sound effort at his third run this preparation. Recent winner of the Winter Stakes (Listed, 1400m) at this track on 15 July, Slightly Sweet raced in fifth place on the rails, before looking for a run between runners at the 200m. She then battled on quite well for third after being in restricted room in the straight. Sultan Of Swing raced outside the leader (Classic Uniform) and held on for fourth while the favourite Gold Symphony was sixth to the home turn, briefly looked a threat at the 300m before holding on under his 59kg top weight for (2.8 lengths) fifth.

Then followed: First Among Equals (AUS), Pretentious Chant (AUS), Meteoroid (AUS), Dezzies Dream (NZ) & Potent Secret (AUS), last.

Analysis: Consistent five-year-old Profit Street took his record to nine wins and seven placings from 21 stakes in taking out his first win a stakes level here. He began fairly and soon dropped back to settle in last place in the eight-horse field before being taken deep rounding the home turn. He then sprinted quickly under 54kg on the Heavy 8 track to hit the front at the 100m and went on to score well. Flying Time was fifth (wide with cover) before moving up (three deep) nearing the home turn. He briefly hit the front at the 200m and then battled on well for second. Recent Beaufine Stakes (Listed, 1000m) winner It’s It soon crossed to the lead. He then travelled well, held the front until the 200m and lasted to take the minor placing. The favourite First Among Equals was fourth, between runners, but was shuffled back nearing the home turn before making late ground for (4.2 lengths) fourth in sound effort under his top weight (61kg) in the affected conditions.

Analysis: The Darren Weir-trained colt Shamport followed his debut third in a 2YO Handicap (1109m) at Echuca on 10 July with a really promising win, advancing in class here. He began well and was eased to settle nicely in fourth place before switching out rounding the home turn. He took the lead at the 100m and then dashed clear to score impressively. Confluence was fifth early on before moving up, when the pace slowed (due to the strong wind) to share the lead (racing three deep) at the 800m. He briefly got to the front at the 200m before holding on after a difficult trip for a good second, his third such placing in four starts to date. Mulk was midfield (wide with cover) before improving (deep) at the 700m. He put in a good run at the 200m and then fought on well for a good third. The favourite Nistaan was fifth on the rails to the home turn and kept battling on for (3.9 lengths) to finish fourth.

Analysis: Promising Chris Waller-trained colt D’Argento followed his good debut win in a 2YO Maiden (1200m) at Newcastle on 15 July to score a narrow but smart win, stepping up in class here. He travelled nicely in sixth place before improving (wide) at the 600m after the pace had slowed. He challenged at the 200m and then finished a bit too well in the sprint home to score nicely by a neck. He should appreciate further still and he looks to have a good future. Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained colt Runaway went to the front, steadied the pace from the 800m, grabbed a break at the 300m and then fought back gamely for a good second, his second placing in three starts to date in a promising effort. Almighty raced in third place on the rails. He got along the inner to challenge at the 300m and then held on to take the minor placing in a photo from the David Payne-trained Colesberg who did well in making ground from the tail of the field for (2.8 lengths) fourth after being slowly away.
