Data Track software Solutions-082 325 3130 Entertainers Rock Witterdrift Saturday evening the 23rd of March was not the same to the young residents of Wittirdrift as there were spoiled with the best enter-tainment by KwaNokuthula artists that consist of Nopopi a lady in hip hop, Victor the BlackVinci dj’s and Slow Poison dance crew with their sub groups. The stage was opened by 3 girls known as “Flexible young dancers” followed by 3 guys known as “Amankura”, then it was 4 ladies called themselves Slow Pioson Girls before Amajita tke over and all these above groups are under Slow Poison that had grow to be bigger than just an ordinary dance crew as they are now like a dance institution with more sub groups under their guidance. Nopopi a female rapper who had been in the local music scenes for quiet long did a freestyle while the dj’s of the evening BlackVinci dj’s (Unathi and Sese) were pumping hip hop tunes. Then Leza the general of the Slow Poison impressed the audience with his moves over Arthur Mo-fakathe’s popular song “Hlokoloza”. Slow Poison twins (Bulelani and Siyabulela) come with their pantsula steps before the main group joins them on the sketches. The audience went out of control, as the hall was like on fire with everybody pushing forward to get the clear view of what was happening on stage. Then Victor performed a hip hop song called “this is how I feel” with Leza on the chorus. After a long time without attending local shows, I was impressed with what I saw during performances although I felt like we need to improve in desciplene as talent alone is not enough without respect and commitment. To get in touch with artists I mentioned in this article: Slow Poison 078 4188 778, Victor 073 6917 005 and Black-Vinci dj’s (Unathi) 078 9863 013. Yedwa Mayila

Update: Kevin Evans and Dave George’s 2012 Absa Cape Epic Race experience so far. Plett has been avidly following the race.. here’s a snippet fromthe latest report... On the opening day’s 27km prologue time trial on Sunday, Evans and George stunned everyone, including themselves, by finishing the short, technical stage in second place, just 13 seconds down on Sauser and Stander, both former Cross-country World Champions and specialists. After setting a rapid pace that only Stander and Sauser were able to match on the climbs in the opening part of Stage 1, including securing the R10 000 cash prize on offer at the Telkom King of the Moun-tains hot spot, the pair bumped into their nemesis, Bad Luck. A hole had torn in George’s rear tyre just before the second water point. A standard repair job with a purpose-made rubber plug failed as the tear was too large and a series of alternative solutions followed as they limped to the next technical zone. They lost their second place, and they lost a lot of time. But they didn’t lose hope. “After slipping to 15th place after their disastrous Stage 1, George and Evans have climbed up to seventh overall and into the lead in the African Team competition. With four stages remaining, they’re just under six minutes behind third-placed Alban Lakata (AUT) and Robert Mennen (GER) of the Topeak Ergon team and just over six min-utes behind second placed Swiss pair, Urs Huber and Konny Looser of Team Stockli Pro. But they’re still 24 minutes behind leaders Sauser and Stander. “We’re racing every day as hard as we can. And we’ll continue for the rest of the race. There are still four tough days left.” Our hearts are with these guys.... Also riding the Absa Cape Epic are the ridingfortheredcross.com team Nicholas Hops and his dad who are finding the race very challenging,. They are fulfilling a 2003 dream , riding for fun together and to raise funds for the red cross children’s hospital which helped Nicholas tremendously in his fight against Cancer. Quite a few of our Plett children have experienced the special care of the The Red Cross Hospital. Go onto the website and donate to the cause, and read Nicholas’s day by day account of the race experience. It gives one a tremendous insight into the dynamics of tackling a ride like this. You can also pop in at Le Fournil and give a donation to the team via Jane, Nicholas’s proud mom.

Letter via the Editor Many Thanks to Bitou Youth Advisory After I had read the WNIP and read about the redesign with in the mu-nicipality, I decided to place this vote of thanks. To the acting Munici-pal Manager: I ask that you keep the three dynamic staff (Henry van Rooyen, Zandile Duma and Them-bela Mhlana) in the Yac-Point. Over the times they served us(the youth) with such professionalism and hos-tility. They are young, equipped and know what they doing. I always said to myself if only I had the skill that Henry van Rooyen has and Zandile Duma always going that extra mile for us (especially with our research). I am a proud user of the Yae Point and it is people like this three peo-ple that brought many of us back to the Yae. Thank you guys for what you doing for us and the commu-nity. Letter via the Editor Hi everyone. Well as I am sure you all know by now, in the early hours of Wednesday morning, 21 March, a petrol bomb was thrown into the building of Havenga Kasta, which not only completely desecrated Wessels’ building and all his belongings, but also destroyed Franz, The Lawnmower Man’s building and belongings. Our building Neon Art/John Wilschut Signs along with Routing Etc was also destroyed. We really need to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has helped us and we are just hoping we don’t leave anyone out. If we have, we are so sorry, but the brain cells are a bit frazzled. Firstly, Garin Andrews from Whalerock Re-sorts who not only phoned but also rushed up to our home, letting us know what was hap-pening. Then MIKE DU PREEZ, you are the Man Bru. No, you are the MAIN DUDE. Mike went into the blazing building with the fire department to try and get the vehicle that was parked inside out and save some of the com-puters. Hedley Venter of the Fire Department and his team are smoking hot! Thank you. This team of fire fighters really went the extra mile to help salvage what they could and even went as far as chaining the doors closed once they had the fire under control so that our contents would be safe from looters. Dean Mann thank you for looking after Yvette on the traffic circle in her fluffy gown and fury slippers as John had to stay at home to look after Tanner, our cerebral palsied son. Thank you Maanie from Hobbies & Hardware. Yvette woke you up at 3 in the morning to get pad-locks to give to the fire department, so that they could lock the premises. At 07h30 in the morning of the public holiday, our staff arrived there in full force. They were shocked and devastated and really worried whether or not they all had jobs. We all looked at the scene and decided the best thing we could do was to go to Wimpy for breakfast, so we did. On Thursday morning we cannot believe how many people phoned and came to help us move whatever we could out. Thank you to all of you. Patrick and Rudi from Enrico’s Fishing Charters arrived with their vehicles and helped. Petrus van den Mescht, Phillip Engelke and Mike Du Preez, you are amazing for spending two full days helping us, tirelessly without a break, attempt to get whatever we could out and getting the rest to wherever, so

that nothing was left to be taken, even if it was burnt beyond recognition. Bev and Mike, Nicole and Patrick, Graham and Glenda and Ian & Terri, thank you for open-ing your homes to store very smelly files and paperwork that we salvaged. Aubri and Josh of AWA Engineering, thank you for rushing down with your flat-bed truck and crane to move one of the machines out and store it at your factory. Thank Aunty Crystal Greenwood for fetching and carrying staff. So, Aaron, Annie, Anita, Ben, Bassie, Ellen-ice, Elton, Fick, Jason, JV, Krokkie, Lean-dre, Liezen, Lungani, Maggie, Maureen, Mike, Natasha, Neliswa, Petrus, Phillip, Randall, Samantha and Solly, here we are. Yes we are in a crisis, but it is how we deal with it that will determine the outcome. Lets rise to and embrace the challenge, we are a strong team and we will come out on the other side. We have secured new premises in Robberg Road and all going according to plan, we will be trading again by Wednes-day 28 March 2012. Thank you to those of you from Wittedrift High, Fomosa Primary, Murray High, Ma-sizame, Die Sterreweg, Parish of Fomosa, OASIS Councelling Centre and Plett Evan-gelical Fellowship for offering to help with

the clean-up, storage place etc etc, you guys ROCK! If we left you out of all of the thank-you’s please excuse us, we are sooooo sorry, nothing went un-noticed or was unappreci-ated, we are just confused at the moment. Education highlighted on Human Rights Day The Western Cape Education Department hosted the Human Rights day celebration at Simunye Community centre, Kwanokuthula in Pletternberg Bay on Wednesday, the 21st of March 2012. The pur-pose of the day was to highlight education as a foundational human right for all. The day was embraced by the presence of the Western Cape Education MEC, Mr. Donald Grant, Bitou Council, Bitou 10 Foun-dation, teachers and learners from Bitou schools, parents and the com-munity members. The Bitou Executive Mayor, Mr. Memory Booysen welcomed the present guest by telling them that they decided to change the way they use to celebrate this important day by putting education first. He said the department decided to celebrate Human Rights day by focusing on education as a tool to ensure that all citizens are able to read and understand their rights as outlined in the constitution. This was echoed by MEC Grant who said education is a vehicle by which we can use for promoting human rights, democracy, protect-ing the environment as well as con-trolling population growth in our respective communities. He contin-ued to say in their strategic plan they turned things around by putting the learners first hence they are committed to spend a lot of money on teacher development and on text books. The MEC also congratulated the Eden District Schools for their outstanding performance last year. The parents were pleased to hear about their children’s perform-ance. The Executive Mayor urged parents to support the education department by ensuring that their children work hard and attend classes on a daily basis. The Vice Principal of Murray High school, Mr. Gelembe made a vote of thanks to the distinguished guests, teachers, learners and most importantly to the parents for ensuring that the day was a success. It was indeed a great success as the audience were joyfully screaming and dancing to the music items performed by learn-ers from different schools By: Bukelwa Zweni LOUIS’ ELECTRONICS for all your Hifi, CD Player, TV, VCR and Micro-wave Repairs. Letter via the Editor To All the Men/Women with such Wonderful Spouses It truelly concern me that marriages & families has lost their values, because of lust and adultery. The word of God warns us in Hebrew 13:4: that God will judge those who commits adultery and live in immor-ality. We need to honor our mar-riages and be faithful to one an-other. These ways bring me back to time of Noah where everybody lived according to their own desires & forgot the ordinances of God. Do you not know that God is powerful to erase you from the earth by just opening his mouth. The reason why you are still here is only through his Mercy & Grace. May God open those eyes to see the hurt & rejec-tion & emotional distress that these lust are causing our families & our communities and so many ends up with damaged identities. Wake up men & women before it’s too late.

PAWS shares its concerns ! We at PAWS are concerned and are sure you share this concern! Re-cently, we have been faced with the shocking and disturbing act of pet dumping by their owners. In the first instance, which occurred about three weeks ago and in full view of the pub-lic, a woman pulled up on the side of the N2 and threw a little maltese out of the car right into oncoming traffic. The highway was particularly busy at that time and, as you can imagine, this caused more traffic chaos than normal, apart from the obvious trauma experienced by the dog. A number of near accidents were averted whilst the drivers of the vehicles tried to catch this little creature – its owner had driven off and was nowhere to be seen! Members of the public finally managed to secure the dog and, you will be happy to know, it has now been re-homed. Anyone out there who knows the woman concerned, please let her know that she was seen and the number of her car noted. It is a criminal offence, apart from a moral one, to dump unwanted pets on the side of the road! The second incident involved another dog which is obviously very familiar with bakkies and driving in them. This dog was dumped near the NH Hotel, again on the N2. She had eluded capture until Saturday, but is now being looked after by the vets at Rob-berg Veterinary Clinic. She too will be re-homed. It was reported to PAWS that the owner of this dog was also observed dropping the dog off at the side of the road and driving off! We understand that in the present economic climate, having a pet may

become burdensome, either with the cost of food or vet bills, or both. However, dumping an unwanted pet cannot be condoned in any way. Should you know of any animal in this situation, please contact PAWS and we will endeavour to find an-other home for the dog or cat. Talking about cats, we seem to have mislaid some of our traps! These are used to keep the feral cat population under control and, should anyone know the where-abouts of any of these traps (which are expensive to replace), please let us know and we will arrange to collect it. As always, the PAWS contact number is 083 287 9917 and, until next time, we thank you for your continued support. Watch this space for ongoing news of the PAWS building activities. Everyone Welcome

Open 7 days a week

Tips from our Plett Police to enhance your safety Shopping: Carry your bag around your neck and diagonally across your body. Put your wallet in an inside coat or front pant pocket not a back pocket. Party: Do not leave food or drinks unattended in public places or accept drinks or food from strangers. They could be spiked - say No. Do not leave a party or a social event with someone you do not know or just met. Say No! Do not hitchhike. In your Vehicle: Plan your route in advance. Keep the doors locked and wind the windows up at all times. Do not leave your mobile phone or other valuables where they are visible from outside the vehicle. Lock valuable items in the boot (trunk) before you go. At night, park in well-lit areas. Never pick up strangers or hitchhik-ers. If in doubt about the safety of an area, phone a police station for advice and help. For advice on planning your route and activities, consult the local tourism information office, located in most towns or cities or contact the South African Tourism helpline 087 803

4636 Safety at Home: Unsuspecting domestic workers, garden staff and children are often approached by robbers, pretending to be repairmen or inspectors, Persons who are at home during the day should be made aware of the scams, and the need for security should be emphasized for the own safety. Children: Need to know their residential address and telephone numbers of the parents/caregivers and police. Teach your children to stay close to parents or adults, especially at swimming pools, beaches or busy shopping centres. They should never wander off and should avoid lonely places or taking short-cuts through alleys or deserted areas. It is essential to instil in a child the ability to say No when they are faced with uncomfortable situations. There should be no shame in saying No! Cell phone theft: Conceal your cell phone when you are in a public place and do not get tricked into lending your cell phone to someone to make a call. Maurice Robin has written a book! Here is the synopsis of Diamonds in the Sand It is 1940, and a catastrophic German invasion of Belgium and Holland is imminent. Against his will, Henk de Ridder a captain in the Netherlands army helps his father-in-law to smuggle a priceless box of cut diamonds from Antwerp to Java. The stones arrive safely but by 1941 the Japanese are preparing to invade the Dutch East Indies. Again Henk must hurry the box away, this time to Australia. But the Dutch airliner carrying them is shot down by Zeros and crashes in the wilder-ness of North Western Australia. Where are the stones? Can they be recovered? Henk is one of many determined to find them. Maurice Robin was born in England and immigrated to South Africa in 1948. Subsequently he lived in Israel where he served in the Israeli army. Upon his return to South Africa he studied law. He married his childhood sweetheart Joy in December 1959 and was admitted as an Attorney of the Supreme Court in 1960. He practised as an Attorney in Johannesburg but moved with his wife to Plettenberg Bay on the southern Cape coast in 1980 where they still live. They travel extensively and on a trip to Broome in Australia he became intrigued with the fate of Smirnoff’s

aircraft and the whereabouts of its cargo of diamonds. This novel is the result. Oriented Birds Newsfeed Greetings to everyone and I wel-come you Bitou in our newsroom. As you know that we went to Cape Town last Saturday to play against Santos Academy who have been very consistent in the League and they crash us 6-1. I must say that the first 15 minutes of the game was ours and they came back, stretched us wide apart and they were good in those windy temperature of the city. We fought hard second half, grab one goal but I was too late and the damage was already done. Its not the end of the world though as we still have a mountain waiting to climb. It is an open secret now that we are fighting to stay. We have a winner mentality within us, we see an answer to every problem, we see green near every sand trap, we have a programme and we shall be part of the answer. It may be difficult but it’s possible. We are playing against Royal Blues F.C. From Beaufort West who are also strug-gling. Its our home game here in New Horizone at 15H00. My Plea to our faithful supporters is to come in numbers and cheer the boys. “Abafana Abapheth istyle forever” Thanx and God Bless ya’ll. Lunga

CHATTERBOX TIMES HAVE CHANGED My Family and I were chatting about the kids of today and of course discipline was our first complaint. The kids rule now that you cannot control them with a good old fashioned wooden spoon on the buttocks. Then we were discussing these mommies and daddies who buy these grand houses withe huge gardens and pools and nobody ever sets foot in them, least of all the kids. They glue themselves to the telly and play games costing hundreds, or hand held games also hundreds, in fact every modern thing is in the hands of the totally out of control kids. So we started discussing the good old days that the kids of today look at us when we relate a tale, like we are as mad as they thought. To get money into our hot little hands we had to earn it and that did mean 'make your own bed sweetie, or dry the dishes etc. That meant your brother unpack the garage - you two girls will clean all the contents, sort them and meanwhile your brother will be washing the garage out and then you will all pack it NEATLY back. For our troubles we would get R5 on a really good day which meant a speedy visit to the corner store for a packet of sweets and a coke. Nowadays I have witnessed fathers opening the fat wallet and without counting just hands junior a bundle. They never lift a finger because " Dad we have a maid". I could go on about the total idleness of todays youth. When I describe the cars of those days when I was a teenager - a tape deck was top priority, that was just so cool and the sound system - what sound system. . . your car had a speaker behind the radio and the tinny sound was lekker. I was in boarding school from the time I could walk as schools in Kenya were few and far between and my dad was a travelling man. Mentiin boarding school today and the parents and kid go white with shock at such maltreatment. T.V. was not around and we would crouch around our little TRANSISTOR and listen to Squad Cars, the Three wise men and every story told. Most times you'd miss half of it as the station had a mind of its own but we would just reposition and get on with it. I spent most holidays with my cousin on

her parents farm in Thompsons falls. There were no such things as movie houses or TAKE-AWAYS - the nearest we got to that was my Aunt making us some saamies and milk straight from the cow - YUCK - and Geraldine and I would go and sit on the highest bale of hay in their barn and sing along to records on her little wind up grama-phone. That too was a problem as it often ran out of steam just as we were truly and seriously into practising for being movie stars one day. No problem we just rewound and started from the beginning. We talked about boys - none were allowed at the farm - then put on her lipstick she had scaled from her mother and kiss the barn wall pretending it was Pat Boone. Remember him - he sang "Writing love letters on the sand" and Geraldine and I worshipped him. To be continued... The Covenant between God and Man For Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, Abraham is the father of faith. God called the patriarch out of his comfortable life in Ur of the Chaldees, And he responded, not knowing where he was going. God made a covenant with Abraham. It was inconditional. Nowhere does it say, “If you obey my laws, if you live a moral life, Then I shall be your God” It was assumed Abraham would continue to trust God and walk obediently where God led. Nevertheless, there was no list of command-ments Abraham had to obey, no obligations he had to fulfil. The story of the covenant ceremony tells Abraham was totally passive. He was in a trance. Later there were other covenants containing demands and obligation, Like the one at Sinai where the people re-ceived the Ten Commandments. These started with the small but powerful word “if”. There were other com-mandments containing the small but powerful word “if”. Put those out of your minds for today! The first covenant was unconditional. It shaped Abraham and his people’s future. As you read the Scriptures does it not surprise you that so small and insignificant a nation maintained such an absolute confidence in its future? It came because they were utterly sure that the God of Abraham and Sarah was with them every step of the way. Their steps would not be perfect any more than Abraham’s and Sarah’s were. Twice the Scriptures tells Abraham was so fearful for his own life that he passed his lovely wife off as his sister because a local sheikh fancied her! When Sarah was told she would be blessed with a son, she burst out laughing! Despite the wobbles, the covenant remained intact. The sacrament of Holy Communion is a covenental meal. God made a covenant with you and me. In some mysterious way the Creator of the uni-verse has considered each one of us worth dying for. We had no hand in that decision. We did not set up the idea for such a meal, Jesus did. We come because the same Jesus invites us. The invitation does not carry a list of demands and obligations. It is sent out to the very best, the most

honest, the most true and faithful, but it also finds its way into the hedgerows and gut-ters, to those conscious of their failures, to those who would prefer to hide their faces from a holy God. We are called to come, not only when we are faithful, but when we are covered with the dust and grime of our failures. Here we are accepted, forgiven, and fed. Here we are assured that the future belongs to God and not to politicians or business-people. Here we are reminded that God goes with us into the future no matter how bleak that may appear to be. With our hand in the hand of the God and Father our Lord Jesus Christ, it is indeed better than a known way. Come to me, ALL you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.

And then the future: Take my yoke upon you and learn from me for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden light. Letter via the Editor A WORD ON OUR RURAL SECURITY Rural residents are probably aware of the increasing incidents of theft, house breaking and assault. Just last week one of our foreign volun-teers was beaten up and robbed on the Monkeyland Road while jogging at 5.30 in the afternoon. You have probably read about the recent sad attack on senior Crags resident Hannsie Visser. Not that living in town is much safer these days. This is not necessarily all doom and

many attempts to create meaningful employment often never materialize as they are stifled by self-interest groups. So day after day these people go home to their humble shelter, which often, is not much more than a lean-to, where their cold and hungry family wait for their unemployed parents to provide something to eat. I just wonder what we would do if we were reduced to that sort of hopeless situation. We know jobs create opportunity and hope, which nurtures ambition and dignity, while on the opposite side of the coin we have destitute and des-perate people who resort to desper-ate things. This is a good time to look at your home security, make sure that your home has an alarm system and that it works and is connected to a re-sponse unit. If your alarm has mo-tion detectors, make sure that they are not inside your house, as by the time an inside motion detector is triggered its too late, they are al-ready in the house with you. All motion detectors should be outside the building as an early warning to the occupants. Please don’t be complacent about your home secu-rity, this is going to get a whole lot worse before it gets any better, and in the meantime we need to create and support job creation, jobs and more jobs. gloom, but gone are the days when you could take comfort in the belief that because you have acquired your small piece of paradise and have built your home on it, that you have done your bit. Or think that if you leave everyone else alone and mind your own business that you will be extended the same courtesy. The dynamics of the environment around us, is unfortunately such that, the “have not’s” are increasing getting to have even less and all the while their ranks are increasing at an alarming rate. It is arguable that many of those who currently have, are also getting to have less and less, but they are not predatory upon one another yet. The quickest and most long lasting solution would be to create jobs for the unemployed, and to support job creation where it is happening. You can no longer take refuge on your piece of land, and ignore what is happening around you, you need to become pro-active and invest in and support job creation. If you do not have the platform to employ, there are other avenues to support job creation, like local procurement, buy it in Plettenberg Bay instead of Knysna or George, even if the item costs a few Rand more here, be-cause here is where your money maintains local employment. Also vigorously support any local job creation ventures, new ventures create new jobs, and that is what we so desperately need right now. Unemployed people around us are becoming increasingly destitute. These people stand along the road-sides asking for work day after day without finding employment, there is no light on the horizon for them, as

Our permit allows us to approach whales within closed or protected areas so please do not be alarmed if you see this happening during the stipulated dates. Our team has many years experience working with cetaceans and we strive to keep disturbance to a minimum whilst collecting our data. We will be collecting photographic data for individual identifications and skin samples for genetic analy-sis. The field work in Plett forms part of a larger project on South African Bryde’s whales and one of the primary objectives is to estimate the population size of the inshore form. It is believed that there are only a few hundred animals in the population and in order for them to be correctly managed and con-served; accurate assessments of their abundance and distribution are required. Even her wrist tendonitis injury in July, forcing her to cancel the rest of her Surfski races for the year, did not stop her winning the World title. Her results for the first half of the year were enough to win the year! We are so very proud of this incredibly talented and hard-working Plett Lass. Michele is in Plett recovering from surgery she had to have on her wrist 3 weeks ago. All of Plett would like to wish Michele a speedy recovery! PAWS Spay Day PAWS will be holding a spay/neuter day on 22 April in Kwanokuthula. If anyone has any old (clean but useable) blankets or towels they are will-ing to donate to us for the spay day please could they drop them off at “Horse and Hound” in the Market Square. We wrap the dogs while they are recover-ing and then send them home with the blanket/towel. The grey blankets from Ackermans or Pep Stores also work well. Many thanks.
