Greetings from our President
Dear NJ-NY ACRAO Colleagues,
I hope this brochure finds you rejuvenated and enthused for the start of
another academic year!
I also hope that you were able to relax and enjoy those activities that help you
recharge your batteries over the summer.
Another way to recharge your batteries is to attend a conference with those
who understand your challenges, share your concerns, and speak your
language. We hope you will find that the program outlined in this brochure for
our Fall conference at Hudson County Community College is full of resources,
new information, and helpful tips that you can put into practice at your
institution.
We look forward to your joining us for a day of professional growth,
camaraderie, and networking with colleagues – and don’t forget the great
food!
A delicious breakfast, lunch and some late afternoon snacks, prepared at
Hudson County Community College’s Culinary Institute are included with your
registration!
Hope to see you there!

Teaching the old dog new tricks – How to keep your staff motivated in a continuously changing environment You’ve probably heard that saying before: you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. But what does it mean? And is it true? This popular old saying means it can be difficult to teach a seasoned person — or animal! — something new. The assumptions behind the saying are that it can be hard for seasoned people to learn new things and that it can be difficult to get someone to try something new if they don’t have any experience with it or have always done something a certain way. In this session, we will discuss strategies and techniques to keep your staff motivated in a continuously changing environment. Diana Chadi, University Registrar Yeshiva University
Our Story: One’s Schools Response to State Authorization Requirements This session will review how one school, within a large university, responded to state authorization requirements for a multi-disciplinary unit. Being comprised of in-person, online, and hybrid programs, some of which require clinical/experiential components, the school created a strategic approach to gain authorization, while continuing to fulfill the mission and vision of the school. Alexis Fulks Director, Planning and Strategic Initiatives Rutgers, School of Health Related Professions Bianca M. Thompson-Owen Assistant Dean for Enrollment Services Rutgers, School of Health Related Professions
Social Media Is Not Going Away If you can't beat them join them. Every campus can agree there is no one proven method of getting important information and deadlines out to students. The question is no longer, should we get on social media? But rather, what are the most popular social media platforms for our students? Join a roundtable discussion on what your campus is doing on social media or get some tips if you're interested in joining a social media platform. Nubia Guzman Counselor Associate Fashion Institute of Technology
Transcript Evolution: Making the change from paper to electronic Follow one college's plan to move to an E-Transcript solution. The moderator will discuss what changes will be needed in College policies and procedures, the project management process, and her research findings. A panel made up from schools who have implemented changes will review their results; vendors used, and discuss what benefits the shift has achieved. Susan Weisman Registrar St. Francis College
Chopped! Four teams of administrators, three scenarios, only one chance to win! The challenge: Create an unforgettable plan from the mystery items hidden in baskets before time runs out. Our distinguished panel of seasoned professionals will critique their work and one by one they must face the dreaded chopping block. Who will win the title of Chopped Champion and who will be chopped! Darlene Benzenberg, Associate RBHS Registrar Rutgers Biomedical & Health Sciences Diana Chadi, University Registrar Yeshiva University Wendy Silverman, Manager of Admissions and Transfer Services Rutgers, School of Health Related Professions
Federal Regulations - Understanding Your Role in Compliance Compliance with Federal Regulations has recently become much more complex and involves many offices around campus. Whether or not there is a compliance officer on campus, the Registrar often becomes directly involved with compliance. This session will discuss the role of the Registrar in compliance and will discuss resources for Registrars to utilize regularly to stay current with regulations. Attendees should be prepared to discuss their own experiences and share solutions to common issues. Michael Maysilles University Registrar New Jersey Institute of Technology
Baptism by Fire…Veterans Join us for a soup to nuts roundtable discussion on Veterans best practices. Topics will include The Choice Act: Section 701 (Fry-Scholarship)/702 (In-State Tuition), creating a Military-Friendly campus, recruitment efforts, compliance, Yellow Ribbon Program, VA-Once, DOD-MOU, Principles of Excellence, GI Bill Comparison Tool, Veterans Outcome Measures, and the 85/15 Rule. Bring your questions and your answers. Elaine Gargiulo NJAVPA President/ Director Military & Veterans Services New Jersey City University
Collaboration: How You Can Create a More Inclusive Environment for Students with Disabilities Access for students with disabilities is everyone's responsibility, but sometimes it's difficult to know how that pertains to you. Have you ever wondered what makes a classroom "accessible" or been unsure of how to help a student with a disability? Join us for a session to examine many aspects of campus life and discuss the potential barriers students with disabilities may face. We will also examine the ties this has to creating a veteran friendly campus. You will leave the session with a better understanding of how to serve students with disabilities, and the foundation of a plan to serve students, promote collaborative community and create an inclusive environment for all. Carlie Andrews Director, Office of Disability Services Rutgers University
