ROLL CALL/MORNING ASSEMBLY . . . . .

the key start to our school day

Each day, the school commences at 9:00 am with a morning Roll Call assembly. This is an important whole school activity for several reasons – 1. Attendance Rolls are legal documents and must be

marked daily.

2. Important messages that affect the day’s

organisation and routine are given out, especially

changes to classes and activities or additional

messages for students.

3. It is an opportunity for Year Advisers or Sporting

Coaches to speak to particular groups of students.

So, it is vital that ALL students arrive at school before 9:00am and in time to attend Roll Call. Students are expected to make themselves seen [by sitting in their correct Roll Call group] and being heard [by answering their name when called by their Roll Call teacher]; and listen to the messages. K. E. Patino [Learning Liaison Officer]

On Wednesday, Luke Watego, Rachel Fleming, Ashleigh Samson and Carl Kamholtz attended an inspiring day at Southern Cross University. The Senior Student Conference was conducted by NSW Education and Training and focused on the benefits and career options available to future teachers. Scholarships targeting a variety of teaching areas and pathways to a career in teaching were also discussed. The day was presented by Anh Do, a famous Australian comedian who arrived as a refugee when he was only a small child. He was also a finalist in Dancing with the Stars and is the author of Book of the Year, which is titled The Happiest Refugee. The day was motivating, entertaining, and informative. As 1/3 of current teachers are due to retire from teaching across NSW in the next 10 years, the opportunity awaits for passionate and dedicated Year 12 graduates to pursue teaching as a rewarding and challenging career. It was a pleasure to share this day with these focused students who will be our future educators.

U’16 Girls Rugby On Tuesday 31

st May, Casino High School Girls’ Rugby

squad travelled to Woodlawn College, Lismore to participate in the ‘Coast to Country’ Cup. The squad have been training since Term 4 2010 but due to various setbacks had been unable to play a game. The girls lined up to face their first kickoff against Trinity College. Chloe Caldwell ran over the line for the first try but was unable to place the conversion. This was the start of a running spree for Casino. Final score 36 – 0. Try scorers – Chloe Caldwell x 2, Loretta Hickling x 2, Effie Walker x 2, Philo Avery x 1 and the conversion kicked by Effie Walker. Second game against Xavier College was much tougher as they ran the ball more and had a tighter defensive line. In the first half, Tiarna Lynch crossed the line for our only try. There were some impressive tackles and hard hits throughout the game. Xavier managed to score in the second half to bring the score to 5 all. As we scored first the win was ours. With support from Layeka Fraser, Alyssa Powell, Angie Hayward, Lakesha Williams, Caitlin Vlahos, Nicole Green and Isobelle George; Zelma Avery had the tackle of the day and Daisy Gordon was best ball gatherer. A fantastic start to the girls’ rugby season. Thanks to parents who attended on the day. A very special thanks goes to Mick Russell who has been training the girls at Wednesday sports. All students were well behaved and did Casino High proud. Suellen Pursche - Coach

From the Library…

Why do we cry when we peel onions? Because onions give off an oil containing sulphur which irritates our eyes. Our eyes blink and produce tears to wash it away. Other interesting facts can be seen in: “Tell me Why” in the Reference section of the Library
