Another busy week at LPS with students from the School
involved in the Premiers Spelling Bee and the Regional
Quarter Finals of the Premiers Debating Challenge.
This week we also welcomed our 2015 Kindergarten students
who began their ten week transition program on Wednesday.
UNSW TESTS
Congratulations to the students who took part in the UNSW
tests this year. LPS students have achieved some outstanding
results this year across all testing areas.
Congratulations to the following students on some outstanding
achievements.
Maria Tynan - Distinctions in Writing and English
Abbey Snell – High Distinction in Writing
Amelie Sachs- Distinction in English
PREMIERS SPELLING BEE
Last Monday we had four students taking part in the Premiers
Spelling Bee in Griffith. Our students did well on the day up
against students from surrounding schools. In the 3 /4 division
we had luck with Lilly Hillier and Brianna Chitts representing
LPS. Lilly made it to Level 4 and Brianna made it to Level 3.
Jenna Preston and Amelie Sachs represented LPS in the Year
5/6 division. Jenna made it through to round three in the
competition having the tricky word ‘onyx’ to spell at this level.
Amelie came third in the competition making it through to the
8th
and final round which was an excellent achievement on the
day. Well done girls.
KINDERGARTEN TRANSITION PROGRAM
The transition program for students commencing Kindergarten
in 2015 commenced last Wednesday. We welcomed 46
students on the day with all of our 2015 Kindergarten students
having a great time on the day working with Mrs Vallance and
Mrs Frazer.
The program will run for 10 weeks (until Wednesday 26th
November) from 11:30 am until 1:30pm. If you know of anyone
yet to enrol in the program and they have students who will be
attending LPS in 2015 please encourage them to come into
the school office to obtain an enrolment pack.

PREMIERS DEBATING CHALLENGE- QUARTER FINAL
Last Thursday Amelie Sachs, Jenna Preston, Abbey Snell and
Kaila Depaoli travelled to Griffith North Public School to take
part in the Quarter Finals of the Premiers Debating Challenge.
The topic of the debate on the day was that “ All children
should own a pet”. Our students took up the affirmative
argument on the day.
The girls argued well and rebutted North Griffiths points well
coming out winners on the day. We now debate against
Deniliquin North Public School this Wednesday in the Regional
semi-finals. We wish them all luck.

lovely to see many people helping us to heighten
awareness of the need we all share to protect
children from abuse.

Fruit and Vegie Month
Last week of the official Fruit and Vegie Month, but
I hope not the last week where we try to include
more fruit and vegies in our diet. This week’s
suggestion is for crunchy salad tubs. Chop up a
carrot, some celery, red capsicum and cucumber into
sticks, combine with cubes of cheese and slices of
cold Sunday roast into some reusable plastic tubs and
you have lunches for all your family. A barbecue
chook pulled apart works out a better buy than slices
of processed meat.
One last idea to get away from those little packets
of processed ‘junk’, is fruit bread. A couple of slices
spread lightly with butter make a delicious change
from highly refined, high GI snacks.
Thank you to all those families who have taken Fruit
and Vegie month on board.

Vegie Garden Update
Thanks to David and Tony Tiffin for providing the
steel water tank, which they cut into rounds and lined
with plastic. These are going to become our Fruit
Salad Tubs in the vegie garden. Strawberries will be
the first plants put in. The tubs were filled with
garden soil ($230 in total). Yes! Dirt is not dirt
cheap! The cost was covered from the proceeds of
our recent Garage Sale. Other money from the
Garage Sale has gone towards some more native
plants for the garden beds behind the Primary Toilet
block.
Happy Spring Gardening!

Cricket NSW Visit
This Wednesday, LPS will receive a visit from Cricket
NSW. Luke Olsen the regional development officer
will be bringing Gurinder Sandhu, a current NSW and
Australia A player, and Trevor Chappell, a former
Australian player, to speak to Stage 3 about the
benefits and joys of playing cricket. I’m sorry I’ll
miss the talk. This will lead us into the summer
cricket season. LPS will take part in a T20 Cricket
blast day in Week 1 of next term. I will be taking
names of interested boys and girls on Thursday. LPS

Sport News
Last Monday the girls and boys touch teams travelled to
Wagga Wagga to participate in the PSSA Touch Gala Day.
The girls went up against East Griffith in their first match. They
tried hard and improved their game during the second half but
were unable to catch the East Griffith girls.
The boys had a close first game against Yenda. They were
down at the end of the first half, but came away with a 7-6 win.
In their second game against Lake Albert, the boys won 6-4.
In the final round, the boys went down to a very strong South
Wagga team.
Both teams played well and should be very proud of their
efforts. I would like to thank all the wonderful parents who
helped to transport our students to Wagga Wagga. It is very
much appreciated.
