What’s new in WebCenter 12.1
2
Ease of Use
3
Annotation overview
● Quick view on annotations without going into the viewer
● Printer-friendly
Annotation location
Detailed annotation
4
Customization with few clicks
● Customization of WebCenter can now be done from user interface
– UI in Admin to do quick customization
– Supports changing logos, color schemes, text etc
5
Menu customization with drag & drop
● Drag & Drop user interface to customize menu
6
Context Sensitive Online help
● Context sensitive online help connected to help.esko.com
● Supports customization on help content
7
Better handling of Viewer and Workflow Canvas
● Java tightening security is creating issues with WebCenter Viewer
– Viewer is not giving warning when user try to copy and paste annotations
– Viewer has issues when printing from viewer
● WebCenter supports both signed and unsigned applet types now and user can select both options
8
Forgot password functionality
● Forgot password link at login page to request password reset
9
One step less in Installation process
● Remote running of database script
– You can run the scripts remotely from the appserver installation
● Integrated into the installscript
● Advantages
– Faster
– No login needed to the DB server computer, only access to the DB itself
– Integrated into the installscript less chance that it is forgotten or done at the
wrong moment
10
Workflow ‘Canvas’ Improvements
11
Retry a Workflow Node
● A user with the right to view the workflow can right click on the failure icon (the red ellipse) and click on Retry
● Use cases:
– A workflow failed because there was no valid approval setup
– A work flow failed because user uploaded a document to a wrong folder
12
Stop & Re-launch Workflow
● A user with the task edit rights can stop a workflow and re-launch the workflow from any completed node ( a node has an output pin with a number)
● Workflow must be stopped first for re-launch and it only works for first-level workflows
● Use cases:
– Legal department requested modification on Artwork after work order is submitted to the studio
13
Error Handler node in a Workflow
● A dedicated error handler node is created to capture the error condition in the workflow
● If error handler node is used in the canvas and the workflow node has a failure and error dot of that node is not connected to anything, the system will place the token on the output dot of the error handler
*Note: Make sure to NOT connect the error handler node (or the following nodes) to the main Workflow as this will lead to unexpected results.
14
Task Due date calculation based on reference due date
● One can specify lead time of workflow task as a percentage of workflow due date
● New tab „due date‟ in Edit Parameter dialog with a option to specify either „fixed lead time‟ or „percentage lead time‟
● Use case: Due date of sub tasks can get automatically adjusted by changing the due date of master workflow task
15
New functionalities
16
Bill of Materials
● Bill of Materials (BOM) – representation of all parts and assemblies required to build a complete shippable product.
● Make it immediately clear what will be created/delivered with a project
● In WebCenter context, it is list of documents representing the deliverables
Bill of Materials
17
Use cases
Order labels via the web: start by saying which labels you
want
Clear difference between the labels and other documents
Specify list of packaging components for a project
Labels, Folding carton, Corrugated shipping container
Order/specify components of a display
Base, Trays etc
18
Bill of Materials support in WebCenter
● Bill of Materials (BOM) – representation of all parts and assemblies required to build a complete shippable product.
● Make it immediately clear what will be created/delivered with a project
● In WebCenter context, it is list of documents representing the deliverables
19
Feedback in project dashboards
● Project Search results can have a column with status of the BOM items
– For example: first project has 4 items in the BOM, 1 approved, 1 pending approval and 2 under creation
– Clicking on icon will show documents included in the BOM
20
Benefits
● Easier to manage multiple SKU‟s in 1 project
● Faster follow-up of your projects
– No need to go looking in each of them to see progress of the deliverables.
● Integrated with ArtiosCAD
– Bill of Materials supported in ArtiosCAD is now shows the same in WCR and you can edit from both
● Smoother and richer integration of customer facing and prepress operation
– The BOM links (2-directions) with products/parts in Automation Engine
● Avoid mistakes/confusion about what will be delivered
– Changing the BOM of the project is a right
21
Features for future versions*
● Bill of materials with deep complexity
– Documents linking to other documents allowing deep inclusions
– Uses document to document links
– Example
● Display 347289
– Base 43789_red count=1
● Graphics:43789_red.pdf
● CAD: 43789.ard
– Tray 34279_red count=2
● Graphics: 34279_red.pdf
● CAD: 34279.ard
*This will not be in WebCenter 12.1 release
22
Braille Reader* in the viewer to verify the Braille Content
Barcode Reader* in the viewer to verify the barcode including
QR code
* The technology used for these tools is from Global Vision and these tools are a part of ‘Advanced Approval’ Module
Barcode and Braille Reader
23
CAD file comparison in WebCenter Viewer
24
Calendar View
● Show a list of projects against a calendar
– Past and prediction of the future (only when planned tasks exist)
● Configurable and reusable as saved search
● Benefit: See immediately which projects need attention
25
Reporting Improvements
26
Reports run by non-admins
● Administrator can determine which groups can run a report
– 1 or multiple, for example SALES_MANAGEMENT;GENERAL_MANAGEMENT
● People in these groups will see the reports show up in the Search/Reports list and can run the reports.
● Use cases:
– Sales management can run reports for their regions
– Site management can run reports for their (visible) sites
27
Project Reports
● Special type of report with only data coming out of the project
● Run it from the project itself: More actions – Run Project report
● Output directly to the browser or save inside the project
– Typically in some pre-defined folder
● Can be run by the project manager and people from certain groups and/or certain roles in the project
● Example:
– Project summary with attributes output as a PDF, which then can be sent to suppliers as a quote request
● Can be run by the PM but also by a procurement officer, but not by a printer.
– Approval overview of all documents in the project with who approved what and how long it took. Output to PDF to be attached to billing for the project
● Can be run by the CSR and the invoicing services only
28
Other New Capabilities
29
Document download link
● E-mail download link to somebody who is not a WebCenter user
– This person can download purely from the link
30
Support for document export
● Export document (archival)
– Document itself and all its metadata and history (as XML) zipped up and pushed to the folder of your choice
31
Performance Improvements
32
Performance Improvements
33
Where are these differences noticeable?
● Search is much faster
– „mywork‟ page loaded 50% to 94% faster for all users.
● Projects I am In/I Manage is much faster (when you are in a lot of projects)
– Page loads were over 30 seconds is reduced 2 seconds with 80000 projects
● Adding/Removing users to groups
– Certainly when these groups have access to large amounts of projects
● Project creation (certainly complex projects) is much faster
● Far less “temporary hiccups” which are typically caused by other users concurrently doing one of the above operations
34
WebCenter 12.1 Search speed improvement
Server normally loaded All searches < 2 seconds
Server under heavy load 20 people executing searches at the exact same time
Search speed remains acceptable
