2017 MCBA State Finals Information WLC Vikings perform @ 5:15 pm / awards 6:45 pm

1. Tickets & Seating:

All ticket sales are sold the day of event at the Ford Field gates only

They accept CASH ONLY! Ticket Prices: Adults - $20.00 Students & Seniors - $15.00 Under 5 Free

**Tickets are good for all flights…entire day runs 8:15 am – 10:45 pm-ish if you want to get your money’s worth! Our flight begins at 7:30pm. Like always, we will be trying to sit as a group as close to the 50 yard line as possible (general seating). We will likely run into a lot of fans exiting the stands as we are entering. Be patient, and keep an eye on your little ones!

Details at www.themcba.org

2. Other money spending opportunities:

MCBA Patch $5.00. You can pick one of these up for your student’s Varsity Jacket (or hoodie, or whatever) if you’d like. They will receive a rocker patch (free) from Mr. Rogers with the year on it for each season we participate in the Finals.

MCBA State Finals T-shirts and sweatshirts are available to purchase. (the same ones we did a pre-order for)

MCBA Pins available for $10.

Mr. Video will be taking orders for DVD’s of the Finals. These can also be ordered online after the event, and Brenda Raffin will be taking orders after the event at a substantial discount.

Jolesch Photography will be taking orders for photos that are taken during our performance. These can also be ordered online after the event. Ordering early does earn you a discount. http://www.themcba.org/theMCBA.org/Championship_files/2016%20Jolesch.jpeg

3. Spirit Signs – bus route for placing signs on the road:

We have had a fun tradition in the past where we make spirit signs and place them on the road along the bus route the team will be taking to the State Finals. The kids really enjoy seeing them along the way to pump them up! Signs can be made out of cardboard, foam core, or whatever your imagination comes up with! Please only encouraging, positive sentiments!

You are responsible for placing the signs and removing them. Be sure to place your signs prior to the busses leaving, so the kids can enjoy them. All signs MUST be removed by the time we arrive home Saturday night.

The busses will leave the school and go east on Oakley Park to Welch where they will head south (right turn) down to 14 Mile Road where they will head east and enter M5 at 14 Mile. This route is the safest for our busses and students.

Page 7: What’s Happening This Week and Next• Aerosol cans (hairspray, mace, pepper spray, etc.) • Animals (except certified service animals to aid guests with disabilities) • Backpacks,

In addition, this year, we thought it would be fun to cheer as a group as the busses drive by. So, if you would like to join us, meet at the “old” railroad tracks on Welch Rd between Pontiac Trail and Maple Rd shortly before the busses leave WLC. (more specific time when we find out our performance time)

5. Spectators:

Please remember to be respectful and gracious spectators TO ALL PERFORMERS! Let’s represent WLC in the MOST POSITIVE MANNER POSSIBLE!

In an effort to promote good sportsmanship, we would ask that our parents and fans, as representatives of the school and as role models for our students, consider the following:

Do not leave or enter the stand during a performance unless it is an emergency. Please refrain from speaking or keep your voices very low during all performances! Show all bands the same respect and support you would like our band to receive.

It is a good idea to give a standing ovation to every band after their performance.

When possible, wear your WLC marching band gear.

Please do not say anything critical of any group or band in public. Please recognize effort. We tell the kids all the time that we are going to give it our all and that we want to win, but if we do not win we have nothing to hang our heads or be bitter about. It has been a tremendous season no matter what the outcome is on November 5. We have so much to be proud of. Likewise, we need to realize that if we do win we do not want to be perceived as rubbing it in. So we will clap for ourselves and show our initial reaction of pride, but we do not want to get carried away in public. We can save that for our party the following day!

We are going to Do Our Best!!! We are going to Forget the Rest!!! BECAUSE…..IF IT IS TO BE, IT IS UP TO ME!

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT COMPETITION DAYS

TEAM MOTTO:

“Do your best…forget the rest! GO BAND!”

• Uniforms need to be in tip-top shape. See attached sheet or go to: http://www.wlcbands.com/looking-good.html for details on uniform care.

• Extra gloves can always be purchased in the uniform room for $3 a pair. • Competition days are long days for the kids…please make sure they get plenty of sleep,

have a healthy breakfast, and please pack some healthy snacks that will not stain their uniforms. Also, they may need food for dinner or cash for concessions.

• Make sure to think about the weather…it gets chilly by the evening & kids will start to need some kind of under armor wear to keep them warm.

• You are not expected to go to the whole competition! • Arrive early...sometimes you have to park some distance from the field • Pack for the weather...blankets, coats, etc. • You will need to buy tickets at each location...generally between $5 and $7 per person.

They will usually have a program available for an extra $2 - $5. • Most locations will have concessions available, which benefit their boosters, so consider

supporting them. • You will notice that they usually will not allow people to enter / exit the stands during a

performance. If you are approaching the field during a performance and notice a traffic jam of people, just be patient, as soon as the performance is over, they will open it up to enter / exit before the next band. It is a courtesy to the performers and their spectators.

• BE A GOOD SPORT! No matter what you see...please refrain from any negative comments in the stands...you never know whose grandma is sitting right behind you. We have always prided ourselves on giving EACH TEAM a standing ovation following their performance. These kids ALL work hard and deserve our support & respect!

If you haven’t had a chance, check out Marching Band 101 on our website: http://www.wlcbands.com/marching-band-101.html There is a lot of info about competition days , including information about how bands are judged!

Competition Etiquette Guidelines Our organizational philosophy is that we are there to support every Marching Bands efforts, not just our own. A competition is an opportunity to show our respect and admiration for all of the young men and women who work so hard to produce a quality performance. While half time shows at the football games offer an opportunity to perform for the community, Band Competitions allow the finer points of a performance to be appreciated. Band Competitions call for special considerations from the audience so that everyone can enjoy all of the performances. We have a responsibility to represent our community, our school and our band students in a positive and supportive manner. Please keep the following points in mind whenever you are part of a Band Competition audience:

Save your conversations for the times between the performances. Others want to hear the music and enjoy the show.

Silence your cell phones. Wait until a Marching Band has completed their show before you leave or return to

your seat. Entering or leaving the stand during a bands performance is distracting to those watching.

Do not say anything negative about the performance of another Band while you are at a competition. You never know who is sitting, standing or walking near you. Your remarks will hurt the feelings of a parent whose child has worked just as hard as yours and it will leave a lasting negative impression of our school and community.

If you hear someone in the stands making derogatory comments about our band or students please ignore them. They are not worth the time and effort of responding.

Always applaud every bands performance equally – ours included – talented soloists or special marching accomplishments. The students in every band work hard, for long hours to perfect their performance and they enjoy your appreciation of their efforts.

However excited you are when we win please keep to just clapping at the competition. When we return to the Band Room we can then celebrate.

Stand while a band is leaving the field as a mark of respect for their hard work. For outdoor events, always be prepared for inclement weather with a poncho or

raincoat. Please do not use an umbrella. Umbrellas block the view of people behind you and the spokes can be dangerous in the close quarters of stadium seating. They also drip on people around you.

If you use your video camera to record a performance at local competitions, stand where you will not block the view of other people in the stadium. **BOA Competitions forbid the use of video recordings.

Do not disturb the judges or completion officials. Do not approach or interrupt the concentration of the band directors, instructors or the students. They are all focusing on the upcoming performance.

Attend as many performances as possible to support our students and enjoy the show. If you see a host or volunteer, please thank them for their efforts and hard work in

providing the event for our students. When entering or leaving the stadium area, please stop to let a Marching Band through.

Please don’t break through their line.
