TO ALL THOSE CELEBRATING BIRTHDAYS IN SEPTEMBER
FROM THE PRESIDENT-‐ September 2014
Wow! What a wonderful summer we have had and it is a bit sad to realize that we are already past the of/icial 'last day of summer' -‐ kids are back at school (not!) and cooler nights are with us. But, the days are still bright and sunny and many of our members are back in Nanoose Bay after their summer vacations and we are all looking forward to an exciting period of Probus activities and meetings.
Many of the Special Interest Groups that have been dormant during the summer months are re-‐activating themselves and I encourage those of you who are not already participating in one of more of these groups, to do so and enjoy the special friendship-‐building and camaraderie that they offer. I am especially encouraging our newer members to join a group -‐ it is by far the best way to get to know fellow members and most of the activities are a lot of fun. Should you wish to join a group and /ind that it is "full", please contact me or one of the management team or the leader of the group, and we will attempt to ensure that your request is satis/ied.
Speaking of newer members, you will soon notice at our general meetings that some people are wearing a discreet little rose on their name badges.....these ARE our new members and I encourage everyone to make a special effort to make these folk feel welcome and an integral part of our wonderful Club.
Looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible at our next meeting on September 19th or at one of the SIG's.....
KEEP SMILING!!
Tony.

Evening bridge has been very good this year! Our set-‐up has been worry free for most of the time and I have only got good comments. So we go on, into the summer. Most players play every other week either Saturday or Wednesday evening. The hosts take care of the spares, so no worries if you can not play. Hosting happens about once every 2 months. Players have different playing levels, and we try to make room for new members. So if you’d like to join, let us know!

“OVER THE RIVER AND THROUGH THE WOODS”Nick is a single guy in New Jersey with four adoring and adorable grandparents who believe devoutly in the 3 F’s – family, faith, and food. They all have a traditional dinner every Sunday and the grandparents try to impart to Nick the importance of family, a good meal and a good wife. The grandparents go into full crisis mode when Nick tells them of his plans to move across the country to Seattle in pursuit of his “dream job”. They pull out every scheme in the book to get him to stay close to home – including baiting him with the pretty girl next door. You don’t have to be Italian to fall in love with these meddling grandparents or to laugh until you cry.Dinner following at the Saltair Pub Tickets $38.70 pp payable by the September 19 PROBUS meeting.

Probus Club of Nanoose Bay trip to Bard on the Beach August 23 10 Probus members got themselves to and from Kitsilano in August to enjoy an afternoon performance of a Midsummer Night’s Dream presented at Bard on the Beach. The day was warm and sunny, and the setting was just beautiful. The BMO Main Stage opens to a vista of water, beach cityscape and mountains, and all the seats are excellent. The play was very entertaining, with Cirque de Soleil / steampunk costumes, very talented actors, and touches of modern music. For example, when the bewitched Fairy Queen Titania is bedding down with the tailor Bottom (transformed into an ass – the animal kind -‐ ) the fairy chorus sings Daft Punk’s little ditty:
“She's up all night for good fun I'm up all night to get lucky”.
Thanks to the Collyers and the Dodds for car pooling help, and Ron Windrim for taking photos.
