Hopes and dreams come true for children like Shane

Shane’s storyWhen the doctors come to you and tell you there is something wrong with your child, it shatters your world.

This is what happened when my son Shane was born. All my hopes and dreams for him were gone, or so I thought.

Five Counties has been with us from the start. They helped me put things back into perspective.

Together we set new goals for Shane and have worked hard since to achieve them.

Shane was born with a very rare syndrome, Costello Syndrome. Because of this he was delayed in many ways. He only has a vocabulary of about 10 spoken words, but with the help of his speech therapist he can communicate through sign language and a communication book.

Five Counties has also worked with the school he attends to set up a computer so that he can learn with his classmates.

Walking was very slow to come, but with surgery and the specialized help of Five Counties trained therapists he has come a long way.

Shane used to sit and watch, but now he can run and play with his brothers and friends.

Shane still has a lot of hurdles to get over, but with the help and support of Five Counties, I know he has the opportunity to do just that.

Every child deserves the chance to reach their fullest potential and Five Counties Children’s Centre makes that happen.
