What to Know:Jesus rode a donkey into Jerusalem at the beginning of the fi nal week of His life. This event is signifi cant because it’s the fulfi llment of another prophecy made hundreds of years earlier. As Jesus came into the city on a borrowed donkey, people cheered and shouted. They waved palm branches and laid their garments on the ground as symbols of Jesus’ majesty. The setting was exciting and anticipatory, and your child will probably get caught up in the thrill of the crowd and the waving of palm branches. Now called Palm Sunday, this day is a prelude to Jesus’ arrest and crucifi xion. Understanding Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem helps your preschooler prepare for the events to come that have eternal impact.
