First Time Offshore: What to Bring
First Time Offshore
• Your first time offshore can be tough if you don’t know what you need to bring.
Hard Hat (Required)
• You’ll definitely need a hard hat to keep your noggin safe. –White hard hats are
standard– Green hard hats are
normally worn by short service employees (often required by operator)
Steel Toe Boots (Required)
• Steel toe boots will keep your toes safe in case you drop something on them.– Rubber boots are good for
the drill floor because some drilling fluids will shrink leather boots
– Leather boots are good if you’re not working on the drill floor because they are more comfortable
Gloves
• The gloves you choose depends on your job.– Dot gloves are good if you
get a lot of grease on your hands. You can just throw them away
– Ghost gloves are good if you need to be able to use your fingertips
– Ergodyne gloves are pretty rad. They protect your knuckles and are good for rigging.
Offshore Bag
• Offshore bags are built to last longer than a traditional bag. – Of course we recommend a Bad Ass
Work Bag because, well, they are Bad Ass!
Toiletries
• Bring everything you need to keep yourself manly.– Toothbrush & toothpaste– Body wash (Bar soap can hold bacteria)– Shampoo– Deoderant
Cover-Alls
• Most of the majors provide coveralls when working offshore– Check with your
supervisor whether they provide coveralls or if you should bring some old jeans and shirts.
Three changes of clothes
• You might get dirty. Bring at least three pairs of clothes so you don’t have to do laundry every night.– T-shirts– Underwear– Socks
Life Vest (Possibly Required)
• Life Vests are sometimes required when going to production platforms
Dramamine
• Prevent seasickness before it happens.
Tools
• Depending on your job, you may need to bring certain types of tools to complete your job. – Check with your supervisor to make sure
you have the right equipment!
