El Paso County Public Healths Communicable Disease Program partners with the medical community and the public to limit and stop the spread of diseases in our community. Addional Reports: Total hospitalized influenza cases in El Paso County from September 30, 2018February 9, 2019: 224 Total number of animals that have tested posive for rabies in 2019: 2 (1 skunk, 1 fox) Gastrointesnal illness complaints, possibly foodborne, associated with a retail food establishment: 5 Health News: Vaccine Preventable Diseases Vaccine preventable diseases (VPDs) connue to persist in El Paso County. The majority of reported cases are hospitalized influenza, however, naonwide many VPDs have made a resurgence. As their name suggests, most of these disease incidents are preventable by vaccinaons that are widely available at most medical offices including El Paso County Public Health. Parents can protect infants and children from 14 serious childhood diseases by age two through vaccinaon. Preteens and teens need vaccines too. Geng adolescents vaccinated will also protect their friends and their family members. Adults and seniors may need one or more vaccines, even if they received vaccines as a child or young adult. Diseases and Conditions Reported During February 3 — 9, 2019 This report is a weekly snapshot of communicable diseases reported in El Paso County, as well as a report of disease trends and local health alerts. Health News: Vaccine Preventable Diseases Vaccine preventable diseases (VPDs) continue to
