Link Crew Transition Program
All freshmen will have a mentor
The first day of school!
August 10th: Freshmen Orientation 7-11 am
Freshmen and Link Crew only that morning
TENNESSEE DIPLOMA PROJECT: WHAT IS REQUIRED?
Twenty two credits!
English - 4 credits
Mathematics - 4 credits
Science – 3 credits
Social Studies -3 credits
Wellness/ P.E. - 1.5 credits
Personal Finance - .5 credit
Foreign Language – 2 credits
Fine Arts – 1 credit
Electives (focus area: liberal arts or CTE) – 3 credits
ENGLISH
Students must take one English credit each year of high school: English 9, English 10, English 11, English 12
Honors/AP classes are available
If a student does not earn at least 5 credits during freshmen year AND pass English 9, he/she will not move on to 10th grade.
Ninth grade students will either take English 9 or English 9 honors
MATH
Students must take one math class every year of high school.
Sequence Options:
1. Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, 4th math
2. Geometry, Algebra II, plus two additional math courses (this is for students who completed Algebra I in 8th grade)
SCIENCE
Students must earn three science credits while in high school.
Sequence Options:
1. Physical Science, Biology, Chemistry
2. Biology, Chemistry, plus one additional lab science (this is for students who completed Physical Science Honors in 8th grade)
All ninth graders MUST take a science.
SOCIAL STUDIES
Students are required three social studies credits while in high school:
9th or 10th: World History and Geography, World History and Geography Honors, or AP Human Geography
11th: US History and Geography
12th: US Government and Civics and Economics
It is encouraged that ninth grade students take a required social studies class.
WELLNESS/P.E.
All 9th grade students MUST take Lifetime Wellness
Students are required a .5 credit of Lifetime Sports unless they participate in a school sport or complete two years of band.
Lifetime sports can be taken any year of high school.
FINE ARTS
All students must earn one fine art credit to graduate from high school.
Ninth graders are encouraged to choose a fine art class to earn the required credit.
Options for students who will only earn one fine art credit during high school include: Intro to Theatre, Intro to Film and Video, General Music, Art History/Art Appreciation
FOREIGN LANGUAGEAll students must earn two credits of the same foreign language while in high school. Any foreign language credit earned in 8th grade will count as an elective credit.
Options: Chinese I, Latin I, Latin I honors, French I, French I honors, German I, German I honors, Spanish I, Spanish I honors, Spanish II and Spanish II honors (for students who have earned Spanish I credit in middle school)
Students should only choose a foreign language in 9th grade if they are academically strong students.
HONORS CLASSESAll students are welcome to choose honors classes that they are interested in and prepared for.
There will be a rubric completed on each student to help to determine final placement in honors classes. Each child will be looked at individually. Students will be made aware before the end of the school year if the qualifications are not met for honors.
Honors classes do have SUMMER WORK! Summer work will be on the HHS website by the end of May.
Please keep in mind that to be successful in an honors class you must do homework and study each night!
