What is the stock market?
I prefer it
There is more to eat!
It tastes nicer
It looks better
It costs more
It is advertised and I would like to try it
You could buy and sell
There is a shopkeeper
It has opening and
closing hours
You are a “price taker”
You don’t consume the item, but
attempt to make money out of it
You can’t walk into it and test the goods
Nobody owns it and takes all the
profits!!
They both involve similar buying decisions!!
You can buy and sell goods
(ownership in companies)
There is a shop keeper
(a stockbroker)
It opens and closes
(fixed times every day)
You can’t control the price
(you are a price taker)
Instead of eating the produce, you can sell
them back
(selling part of the company to somebody else)
You can’t walk into it, but you can window
shop!
(just like eBay)
Nobody owns it!!
Name a few HUGE companies ( e.g.
McDonald’s)
What do they sell? (e.g. millions of burgers)
Think of how much money they make (e.g.
billions)
You can have a slice of the action by buying
a portion of that company in the stock
market
