  • Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. 11 For the Scripture says, "Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame." 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. 13 For "everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." (Rom 10:9-13 ESV)

  • Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, 2 and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you--unless you believed in vain. 3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures (1Co 15:1-4 ESV)

  • But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are God's people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. (1Pe 2:10-11 ESV)

  • Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted. (Heb 12:1 ESV)

  • I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. (Rom 12:1-2 ESV)

  • Defining Our Terms Gospel: Trevin Waxs Three Definitions 1. Telling the Story for an Individual how to present the gospel to an unbeliever. Their presentation systematizes the biblical teaching of our sin and Christ's provision...the good news is that Christ has come to live an obedient life and die in our place. We are then called to repent of our sins and trust in Christ. 2. Telling the Story of Jesus how the New Testament authors would define the word, which leads to definitions that zero in on the announcement of Jesus. They focus on Jesus' life, death, and resurrection. The gospel, according to this second group, is telling people who Jesus is and what he has done. 3. Telling the Story of New Creation the whole good news of Christianity, how God has acted in Christ to bring redemption to a fallen world. They focus on the grand sweep of the Bible's storyline and how Jesus comes to reverse the curse and make all things new. http://trevinwax.com/2009/09/28/gospel-definitions-pdf-format/

  • Defining Our Terms Gospel: What about Gospel Phraseology? Living the GospelGospel-centric Theology Gospel WakefulnessBeing the Gospel Michael Horton: There is a lot of talk these days about living the gospel or being the gospel, as if we ourselves are the good news. Some even say that the church is an extension of Christs incarnation, as if Jesus came to provide the moral example or template for us to complete Trevin Wax: I think we need to be careful to keep our theological discourse from devolving into the tendency to police peoples language. Parsing of words and phrases can be a helpful exercise, but it can also lead to a sort of insider-lingo wherein we recognize whos on our team by the way they use or refrain from certain phrases What is intended? Are we living our lives as a response to the Gospel in all we say and do?
