At the heart of the Global Safety and

Security Academy (GSS) lies our

commitment to our community. That is why it

is mandatory that GSS Academy students

complete ninety hours of community service

by their senior year. Students will be given

opportunities to volunteer at elementary

schools, libraries, parks voting booths,

and senior centers.

CAL MARITIME

Upon completion of the 10th grade, GSS

students are given the opportunity to visit

the Cal Maritime campus for five days.

During their stay, students study ship-

based firefighting and life saving

procedures used on ships. Students are

also given the opportunity of going out

on the water in whaleboats.

INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Some of the GSS advisors and mentors

graduated from Cal Maritime and want to

expose students to an array of careers

offered by this institution. After all, getting a

preview of college life is a great way to plan

your educational career.

The GSS Academy provides students the opportunity to apply to the Pacific

Orientation and Preparation Program (POPP) at the Los Angeles Police

Department’s (LAPD) Ahmanson Recruit Training Center. POPP is an exploratory

educational experience that places career bound law enforcement students in an

established LAPD training environment. With a team of LAPD staff and officers, the

Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) coordinators, consultants, high school seniors, and college freshman are

put thorough a simulated LAPD recruit experience.

POLICE ORIENTATION AND

PREPARATION PROGRAM

The International Trade Education

Program (ITEP) provides a summer

internship program exclusive to PORT

Academy students. The GSS Academy,

with the help of ITEP partners students

with employers in the Safety and Security

and International Trade industries

through a summer internship. Do what you can,
