WHATISSOAP? HOWDOESITWORK? S.O.A.P. stands for Scripture, Observation, Application and Prayer. It is a way of getting more out of your time in God's word. I did not invent it, I have just been using it in my own life after reading a book “The Divine Mentor” by Wayne Cordeiro. It has certainly blessed me and allowed me to go deeper in the Word. It is my prayer it will bless our LIFEgroups at Revive as well.-Johnathan It's quite simple. When you sit for your daily quiet time, read the bible as you normally would with one simple difference. Underline or make note of any verse or verses that jump out at you with special significance. Now comes the cool part. Create a new SOAP entry in your journal. Write out S. O. A. P. vertically on the page. There are four fields to fill in and I bet you can guess what they are: SCRIPTURE S Write in the verse or verses that stuck out to you in your reading. OBSERVATION O What did you observe about those scriptures? APPLICATION A How can you apply the observation so that it affects your life in the future? PRAYER P Write out a prayer to God based on what you just learned and ask Him to help you apply this truth in your life. When you are finished give your entry a title. This really helps bring these verses back to memory when you flip back thru your journal. That’s all there is to it! PLEASE! Don’t hesitate to give me a call if you need any help knowing how to utilize this in your own life or as a leader in your LIFEgroup. This is a sample of what my SOAP Journal looks like. WHAT IS SOAP?

HOW DOES IT WORK?

S.O.A.P. stands for Scripture, Observation, Application and Prayer. It is a way of getting more out of your time in God's word. I did not invent it, I have just been using it in my own life after reading a book “The Divine Mentor” by Wayne Cordeiro. It has certainly blessed me and allowed me to go deeper in the Word. It is my prayer it will bless our LIFEgroups at Revive as well.-Johnathan

It's quite simple. When you sit for your daily quiet time, read the bible as you normally would with one simple difference. Underline or make note of any verse or verses that jump out at you with special significance.

Now comes the cool part. Create a new SOAP entry in your journal. Write out S. O. A. P. vertically on the page. There are four fields to fill in and I bet you can guess what they are:

SCRIPTURE SWrite in the verse or verses that stuck out to you in your reading.

OBSERVATION OWhat did you observe about those scriptures?

APPLICATION AHow can you apply the observation so that it affects your life in the future?

PRAYER PWrite out a prayer to God based on what you just learned and ask Him to help you apply this truth in your life.

When you are finished give your entry a title. This really helps bring these verses back to memory when you flip back thru your journal. That’s all there is to it! PLEASE! Don’t hesitate to give me a call if you need any help knowing how to utilize this in your own life or as a leader in your LIFEgroup.

This is a sample of what my SOAPJournal looks like. (sharpie was usedfor contrast).
