WHAT IS SCHOOL CASH ONLINE?A module within the DCPS school internal accounts bookkeeping system (School Cash Catalog) that allows parents and community stakeholders to pay fees for student activities or make donations to schools online using a credit card

WHAT TYPES OF STUDENT ACTIVITIES CAN BE FOUND AT SCHOOL CASH ONLINE?

• Senior fees (any combination of senior activities including Grad Bash and

Commencement)

• Safety Patrol Field Trips to Washington D. C.

• Yearbooks

• Class Project Fees

• School Spirit Wear

• Prom

HOW DOES SCHOOL CASH ONLINE WORK?

• School creates a catalog item for a particular school activity and posts it online

• Parent registers at School Cash Online and identifies their child(ren)

• Parent receives email update whenever their child’s school places a new catalog

item online for which the child would be eligible (i.e., child is a senior, so items

specifically added for seniors would result in a registered parent receiving an

email notice)

• Parent goes to School Cash Online and pays for student activity

• School can run report of all parent payments for each online purchase so faculty

sponsor has a record of which student is paid in full for the activity

WHAT ABOUT EXTENDED FAMILY MAKING PAYMENTS ON BEHALF OF A STUDENT?

•A school has the option of setting up catalog items as “available to

the public”. When this option is marked “yes”, an extended family

member can pay for a student’s item.

• The extended family member can type in the student’s name under

“Who are you purchasing this for?” on the website before

completing the purchase.

WHAT ABOUT COMMUNITY STAKEHOLDERS THAT WANT TO MAKE A DONATION?• Each school can set up a donation catalog item that is available to the public.

Two standard donation types are:

• General Operating Fund

• Unrestricted Principal’s Trust

• The community stakeholder can simply select from the listed dollar amounts

(School Cash Online does not provide the option for purchasers to enter their

own dollar amount, so purchasers must select from the options provided)

HOW IS THE DISTRICT DOING SO FAR IN TERMS OF SALES AND USAGE OF SCHOOL CASH?• Usage of School Cash Online is still far below potential usage

• District will be surveying schools again to determine reluctance to place items on

School Cash Online (only 76 schools have collected payments totaling $1,074,362

through School Cash Online for the 2015-16 school year as of July 15, 2016*)

• In comparison, the 2014-15 school year (the year of implementation) had 61

schools with online payments collected of approximately $238,000
