INTRODUCTION• Orientalism is book written

by Edward Said.

• Published in 1978.

• Said was bourn 1 November, 1935, died in 25 September, 2003

• He was Palestinian Arab.

• He was western philosopher of 20th century.

• He generally deals with post colonialism, postmodernism, Occidentalism and Orientalism.

• He was famous for his book “Orientalism”

WHAT IS IN ORIENTALISM?

Said’s Orientalism can be a critical tool to examine the validity of all the literature on the East written by the Westerners. Influenced by the imperialism and colonialism of the 19th century, Western people became interested in the natives and the cultures of Western colonies.

WHAT IS ORIENTALISM ?

The term ‘Orient’ is derives from the Latin word ‘orients’ it means

‘East’.

The country of the east especially East Asia.

What we understand by orientalism

According to M. H. Abram’s book

• “Orientalism (1978) by the Palestinian-American scholar from of Michel Foucault’s historicist critique of discourages to analyze what he called “cultural imperialism”. This mode of disseminating in subjugated colonies a Eurocentric discourage that assumed the normality and preeminence of every representations of the “Oriental” as an orientalist is now sometimes applied to cultural imperialism by means of the control of discourage, not only in the orient, but anywhere in the world.

• In geographical, land of oriental people is snatched by occident.

• They started ruling over orient people.

• Oriental are colonized by French, Russia, and as Said says America.

• Their land dominated by western people.

• Occident treat oriental as their slave.

• Orientalism is all about process of colonizing eastern people.

• In short “Orientalism” is western style for dominating, restructuring and having authority over the Orient.

• In comparison of both European countries are superior and eastern country's are inferior.

• ‘Orient’ and ‘Occident’ are man made.
