Before you get on the boat:

Line up according to your bench order. Know your bench mates name. You must stay in this order until you get

into the boat.

Getting in the boat People must load the boat one bench at a

time. (Listen for instructions.) When you get in the boat, sit on the

bench, push your hips to the gunnels and push your feet against the foot rest.

“Paddle’s up” = get ready The paddles are just above the water. They

are not in the water.

This in NOT “Paddles up”

“Take it away”- start paddling

“Let it ride”- stop paddling and take your paddles out of the water.

“Hold the boat”=stop the boatPut your paddle deep into the water.

Things to remember

- LISTEN! LISTEN! LISTEN! to your coach

- Paddle together. Dragon boat is a team sport. Watch this clip. Watch how their top arm goes up and down together.
