FAQ’s Q: What is a break-a-thon and how does it work? A: A break-a-thon is an event where students, friends and family come together for a good cause and to demonstrate their board breaking talents to raise money for local charities. The U.S. Taekwondo Center wants our students to give back to the community. Best of all, you will have a blast! Over the last 10 years, the USTC has raised over $300,000 for local non-profits! Q: How can I participate? A: Pick up a pledge envelope from the front desk of your Dojang. Ask people that care about you and want to support you to pledge a dollar amount for the boards you break. Collect your donations and bring them to the Colorado Springs City Auditorium on Saturday, March 18th 2017 for the Break-A-thon event. Collect items from local community businesses for the balloon pop and Silent Auction. Purchase and donate bottles of wine for the mystery wine pull. Q: What board breaking techniques can I use? A: Single break stations and multiple break stations are available. All student participants will receive up to 5 boards and are invited to choose 5 techniques they can safely and correctly execute. Q: What is the best way to ask for a pledge? A: Here is a sample script: “Hi, my name is____________ and I am a student at the U.S. Taekwondo Center. Each year we break boards to raise money for local charities. Our fundraiser will be held on March 18th at the City Auditorium and 100% of the profits we raise will be donated to Children’s Hospital Colorado Foundation. Since 1908 the Children’s Hospital has been caring for kids at all ages and stages of life. They see more, treat more and heal more children than any hospital in their seven-state region. The Children’s Hospital pioneering treatments are shaping the future of pediatrics, and are providing the best possible care years before it becomes available at other hospitals. Will you please sponsor me by making a pledge for each board I break for this special fundraiser?” Email/ Facebook/ Instagram/ Tweet your contacts (sample email): Hi, ____________ and I have been training hard at the U.S. Taekwondo Center. Dear Supporter, In 1986, Grandmaster Sang Lee founded the U.S. Taekwondo Center in Colorado Springs. He was the first Taekwondo Olympic Head Coach when the sport of Taekwondo was introduced to the Olympics in 1988. In addition, and more importantly, for 30 years, he has provided the opportunity for thousands of students to reap the benefits of Taekwondo including physical and mental fitness. Since 2006, the U.S. Taekwondo Center has raised more than $300,000 during our annual Break-A-Thon, an event in which our students raise money by breaking boards for non-profit organizations.

This year, we have chosen to partner with Children’s Hospital Colorado Foundation. Children’s Hospital Colorado has defined and delivered pediatric health care excellence for more than 100 years. Now, southern Colorado will be in the position to leverage this amazing asset. By expanding programs and services, with the building of a new hospital that specializes in the unique and delicate needs of children, Colorado Springs will soon have access to one of the top children’s hospitals in the country. As the only nonprofit children’s hospital in the region, Children’s Colorado relies on philanthropy to provide world-class care to every child who needs it. To learn more about Children’s Hospital Colorado Foundation, please visit www.childrenscoloradofoundation.org. As a possible sponsor, there are many ways you can help: 1. Become a corporate sponsor 2. Donate Silent Auction items 3. Contribute Trade-In-Kind Services The sponsorship packet is attached for your convenience. Sponsorship forms and payment are due by Friday, March 10th by 6:00pm. Financial donations can be made online at www.ustcbreakathon.com. Please make sure that you include the name of your business in the comments field. Our students are rewarded both by the joy of giving back and with prizes for financial donations. Please include the full name of the student requesting a donation from your company in the comments field as well. This will allow us to track donations properly. Children’s Hospital Colorado is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and you may consult your tax professional for tax deductible information.
