Rhetoric

Pronounced ret-er-ik

Definition - The art or study of using language effectively and persuasively.

Page 3: What is Argument?

First Step

The first step is you need to pick a topic.

It can be any topic or claim you would like to write about.

They can be facts or fiction All the topic/claim has to be is

debatable and everything is debatable.

Page 4: What is Argument?

Second Step

You need to pick what side of the topic you want to argue for and what one to go against.

Page 5: What is Argument?

Third Step

You need to come up with a Thesis. You need to make your thesis as

strong as possible to make your argument stronger.

After the end of every paragraph reinstate your thesis to “ Hammer your point across”

Page 6: What is Argument?

Forth Step

Find evidence that backs up your Thesis

The more evidence the paper has in it the better argumentative paper it will be.

But remember add the opposing side of the arguments points as well.

The paper needs to have TWO sides to it.

Fifth Step

Counter Argument: do some research on the counter argument and include it in your paper so the reader understands both sides.

If you have great counter arguments that makes the paper that much better. If you have a dull counter then your paper most likely will be subjected to the same fate.

Page 8: What is Argument?

Sixth Step

Write your conclusion!!! This is the part of the paper that

backs everything that you are trying to argue!!

It also reinstates your thesis. Do not rewrite it word for word but

include information from your arguments.

Page 9: What is Argument?

Seventh Step

Cite your sources correctly!! I used

http://citationmachine.net/index2.php?start=&reqstyleid=1#

This site helps a ton when trying to figuring out MLA , APA, Chicago, and Turabian!

Page 10: What is Argument?

Final Step

Just have fun with the Class!!! I dislike normal writing but it is

always fun to argue points that interest you.

When writing the paper pretend that you are having an intelligent argument.

Now go have fun and learn how to argue!!!
