Dogs are swimming in the pool. Examples: Am, is, are, was, were, has been, have been, will be, did, can, should, would, could, etc. Sentences: You should run to the store. He did see the movie yesterday. Examples: Am, is, are, was, were, has been, have been, will be, seems, appears, smells, feels, looks, sounds, etc. Sentences: Bill looks tired. Selma is a good friend. The helping verb and action verb, when used together, are called a verb phrase.
