What should go in each speech

Each of the speakers gives reasons to support his/her side of the argument. The first andsecond speakers should have about 6 points between them and decide which personis going to make which point. The speaker should :

Introduce in headlines the three points he/she is going to makeMake the 3 points in more detailSum up the three points made ; this is like writing a good essay.

During non protected time the people on the other team can make short interruptionsby standing up and saying On a point of informationThen wait to see whether the main speaker will allow them to interrupt. This is done by the speaker saying accepted. Or declined.

The floor debateAfter the main speeches, the audience gets a chance to say what they think about the

issues. They might ask questions or just give a different point of view. The chairpersonchooses different people to speak. The speakers do not answer these points straight away, but it is the skill of the summaryspeaker in taking notes that can make or break the debate. The summary speaker should include some of the answers to these questions in his/herspeech and also sum up what the first two speakers said and apply to the audience tosupport or oppose the motion.

Some tipsResearch your topic and include some evidence in your speechYou can be humorousDont just read from a paper. Even if you have prepared a speech remember thatthe other side will interrupt you and so you have to be able to think on your feet .Reading a speech can be very stilted.Look up and connect with the audienceEnjoy yourself. Remember this is supposed to be fun!
