“a lighthouse to our community and the world”

WHAT GREAT THINGS HE HAS DONE Pastor Augie “But be sure to fear the Lord

and serve him faithfully with all

your heart; consider what great

things he has done for you.” (1

Samuel 12:24)

As we prepare to close out the

year, 2013, I cannot help but

marvel at what great things

God has done for us! At

Redeemer we have

experienced another year of

blessing and growth. We have

seen increases in our Sunday

School attendance, added new

Growth Groups, added new

members to the congregation,

and have added new office

staff! All these things are only

possible because of the

powerful hand of the Lord at

work.

When the prophet Samuel said

these words in 1 Sam. 12, he

was encouraging the people to

ponder both the Lord’s

faithfulness and His might. For

as they went forward, they

needed to have a healthy

understanding of the Lord’s

provision as well as His power.

Samuel knew that while he

would not be with them

always, the Lord would be. So

Samuel’s reminder that Israel

needed to consider the great

things God had done for

them was as much a

corrective as a comfort. Our

human nature is no different

than in Samuel’s day – we

want to take the credit for

our accomplishments

ourselves. We need to both

trust in God to work through

us, but also to give Him the

glory when He does!

So join me in thanking God

for the great things He has

done at Redeemer this year!

And as we celebrate our

Savior’s birth this month,

may we marvel at the great

thing that God has done in

sending His own Son into the

world to take on human

flesh! Through His sinless

life and painful death, He

won us forgiveness of sins

and showed us the way to

the even “greater things”

that God has in store!

Thankful and Hopeful,

Pastor Augie.

tree in the lobby. It is Very Important to

sign up on the sheet next to the tree! Buy

December marks the time when we celebrate the GIFT

that God gave US the Birth of our Savior – Jesus Christ,

as you, your family and your friends celebrate, through prayer,

and thank God for this wonderful Gift of Hope.

“Thanks be unto God for His unspeakable gift.” 2 Corinthians 9:15

December, also, marks the END of one year and the BEGINNING of another year.

As we approach the last few days of 2013,

we need to reflect on the fact that we are here to serve God

by giving of our time, talents, and resources.

This leaves us to ask …..

1. “Have I fulfilled my ‘Serving To His Glory 2013 Pledge?”

2. “If not, will I be able to fulfill my 2013 pledge?”

These are important questions for the ministries of RBTS.

Several other updates/reminders…

Don’t forget to reply this month to the Family Ministry Pledge Submission form you received via

e-mail.

February has been designated 2014 Stewardship Month. Stewardship Sunday will be February

16th

. More information will be forth coming regarding this special time at RBTS.

A new stewardship chair person will be elected at the December 15th

Voters’ Meeting.

I’d like to thank each of you for all your wonderful support and willingness to meet the needs of

RBTS. It has been a great seven year journey. During this time, God has truly blessed us!

May peace and harmony grace your home and

May the Blessing of this Christmas remain with each of you forever.

SOUND IMPROVEMENT COMMITTEE Dan Bitner

UPDATE — FAMILY MINISTRY STAFF ADDITION Dan Bitner

Our preparations to begin the call

process continue and I wanted to say

thank you to all who are supporting

this addition to our ministry staff; your

financial commitments are allowing us

to continue.

Currently we are looking in great detail

at the qualifications and experience

that accurately identifies the person we

want to join us. It is important for us to

understand the profile of the person

we are seeking, before we contact the

District to have them begin the search,

so we are prepared to answer any

questions that arise. In addition, our

Call Committee will need this

information to guide them as they

screen candidates.

What we are finding in our research is

that individuals who are choosing

Family Life Ministry may come from

different career positions. Some who

have been trained as a Director of

Christian Education are going on to

seek the master’s level training and

certification offered by Concordia

University. We also have found that

some Ordained Ministers (Pastors)

have chosen to change course a bit

and direct their focus to Family Life

Ministry. Our definition of the

individual we are looking for will

include a profile of a trained and

experienced ‘Director’ level person,

regardless of their specific background.

Our plan is to have the Church Council

appoint a Call Committee at the

upcoming council meeting and to also

make our request for candidates to the

District. The timing beyond this step

will be dependent on how long it takes

the District to identify the candidates

who fit the profile we have defined.

Then, we will begin the screening and

interview process and the time for that

will depend on how many candidates

we are presented. We will keep you

informed.

Each step of our process will

include prayer that God’s will be

done and that the Holy Spirit

guides our work and our

decisions. The certainty we have

in the call process comes from

our faith that He will guide us

to the person we should select.

(Ephesians 4: 11-12) “And he gave

some to be apostles; and some,

prophets; and some, evangelists; and

some, pastors and teachers; for the

perfecting of the saints, unto the work

of ministering, unto the building up of

the body of Christ”

While we have made some minor

changes over time, the sound quality

in our Sanctuary needs further

improvements. We are now taking a

broader approach and the Church

Council has authorized a committee

to study the possibilities. Their work

began with a recent visit from an

acoustical engineer type, who is

familiar with church settings and the

challenges we face. The result of this

visit is a report outlining specific

technology improvements we can

make, along with some guidance on

challenges with the physical space

itself. Based on this input, along with

requirements from Pastor Augie

regarding functionality, scalability,

aesthetics and flexibility, the

committee will make

recommendations for improvements.

Changes will focus on sound quality

improvements for all types of music

as well as voice in our Sanctuary.

In addition to the improved sound

quality, the committee will look at

possibilities for reducing sound

transmitted to the lower floor of the

Church by installing a raised floor in

the Choir and Praise Band area.

Besides reducing the sound

transmitted to the rooms below, this

raised floor offers some wonderful

opportunities to improve the

worshipful nature of the Choir and

Praise Band area.

The Sound Improvement Committee

(Buck Lehmann, Gary Wilson, Jim

Mullen, Jo Voertman, Joe Flatt, Jordan

Fletcher, Ken Voertman, Lyle Meyer)

represent the Choir and the Praise

band, the Trustees, the Elders, as well

as some who have an eye for the

decorum of the Church. The

committee is just at the beginning

stages of their work, but I expect we

will begin hearing soon about some

of the changes they are

recommending.

THE Mitchell Thorp Foundation will be

holding its 5th annual 5K Run/Walk-

athon at Poinsettia Park on Sat, Feb 1,

2014.

Funds raised at the Event support

families of children in our community

who suffer from life threatening

illnesses, diseases, and disorders.

We are expecting over 3000 people at

this Event and need lots of help,

especially with registration!

If you plan to participate in the Run/

walk or want your kids to enter the

“Kids’ Fun-Run, please use our Church

BIRTHDAY CELEBRANTS Jo Voertman BRIDGE Jo Voertman

Evelyn Meyer hosted the bridge ladies to lunch in the elegant

dining room at La Costa Glen, followed by several rounds of

bridge in her new home. The weather was unsettled and it was

nice to be toasty warm and cozy while the rains came and went.

Carolyn Schmaltz had some lovely high point hands which she

played adroitly and was high score. Marie Voien came in second.

A highlight of the occasion was the attendance of our leader,

Alice Lehmann who is nearing the end of her bout with shingles.

December is a busy, hectic month and the bridge ladies will be

shopping, decorating, sending Christmas cards and packages

and will take time out from the bridge table but we plan to play

again in January.

We play from twelve-thirty until four on the fourth Friday of

every month except December (third Friday in November).

Usually there are two tables. Light refreshments are served.

Anyone interested in joining our group may contact the Bridge

Co-ordinator, Alice Lehmann, [email protected],

Merlot, San Russell won a bottle of Chardonnay.

Congratulations gentlemen!

We’ll be celebrating with John Bacon, Suzanne
