How do we treat our home?
How do you treat the planet you live on?
Are we all as bad as each other?
Global Footprint
All of you will know what a global footprint is
Most of you will calculate your global footprint and suggest how it could be reduced
Some of you will compare your global footprint to other people’s around the world
LO: To calculate our global footprints and compare them to other people locally and globally.
Global Footprint …
How much land, sea and atmosphere it takes to support your lifestyle. It is measured in global hectares or planets.
How much productive sea and freshwater we use to feed
us
How much energy, water and materials
we use
How many emissions we
produce
How much productive land we
need to feed us (crops/grazing)
How much land we need to absorb our
waste
We are going to go up to
Room 32.
You will need a pencil

This is your global footprint. If everyone lived like you
we’d need this many planets
When you have calculated your global footprint, use this page to complete your footprint sheet
These are ideas you can use to
reduce your footprint
1. Is your footprint larger or smaller than the UK average of 3.4 planets?
2. Why does buying things make our footprint bigger?
3. What happens to the size of a country’s global footprint as it gets richer? Why do you think this is?
4. Can we continue behaving this way?
