We make angel ornaments to put at each child’s spot at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. We do this because my little sister Clare is in heaven and her spot is there. This makes families who have lost a child happier during the holidays and shows them that we care. We made 1500 ornaments this year! Read what these students have been working on in school:

In class we are doing Mad Minutes and making Christmas presents for the ones we love. We are also learning and practicing ALICE to stay safe.Lyla Cooper, 3rd grade

In the fifth grade, we are learning lots of things. We are learning about decimals in math. In science, we are learning about the solar system. I am really looking forward to building a gin-gerbread house with my kindergarten buddy!Kaleb Vanden Eynden, 5th grade

STUDENT WRITERS WANTED If you are interested in writing for the Rock Review, please send an email to: [email protected].

This year in fourth grade we are doing many projects. One of the projects I like the most is making little bags for homebound people. Some of the items we are putting in the bags are shampoo, conditioner and tissues. Renata Campos, 4th grade

The Second grade class has been preparing for Advent and Reconcilia-tion. On Monday, Dec. 4th, we made Advent wreaths and on Tuesday Dec. 5, we learned what Reconciliation rooms look like. We are really excited! Elyse Ridgway, 2nd grade

The HSPT is Finally Over! The 8th graders took the HSPT (High School Placement Test) on Saturday, November 18, 2017. We all took the test at different Catholic high schools around Cincinnati. We prepared for months wtih Mrs. Guye and Mrs. Gardner. We prepared because the test is quite a big deal. The test along with teacher recommendations help to place us in our classes for high school appropriately as well as help us secure admissions to some of the Catholic high schools in the city. We are so glad it is finally over, but now we have to wait a bit to get our scores and our acceptance letters from the high schools. In January the big decision comes for all of us- deciding where we will go to high school. Berkley Dixon, 8th grade

In Mrs. Hazel’s class we made stained glass ornaments. We used baby oil, a paper plate and foil to make it. We also have a Santa stuffed animal that hides in our classroom. We try to find it!Charlie Palermo, 1st grade

We are waiting for Jesus’s birthday!Clancy Frizzi, Kindergarten

Boy Scout Troop 672 Court of HonorTwo times a year our Boy Scout troop 672 has a Court of Honor, and one was held one on Monday, December 11 a delicious City Barbeque dinner at All Saints. It was an opportunity to highlight some recent troop activities outside of our regular meetings that included the Orienteering Camporee, Germantown, Go Karting, Lazer Kraze, Rifle and Shotgun training and volunteering at St. Joe’s to fill Thanksgiving baskets. It was also an opportunity to give spe-cial recognition to our leaders and the scouts who have earned merit badges and rank advancements. It takes a lot of work to earn different ranks, and we were proud that there were 6 scouts who were recognized for recently earning the high rank of Eagle Scout. We are thankful to have such great leaders and for all of the efforts to provide a wonderful evening.Henry Beblo, 6th grade

In 8th grade we are doing many different things. In reading we just finished up our literature circles and are now starting To Kill a Mockingbird. In Social Studies we just started a proj-ect about yellow journalism and how it started the Spanish American War. In Science we learned about tectonic plates and how they create earth-quakes and different landforms. We are all looking forward to Christmas break. Christopher Perera, 8th grade

COSI came to the gym and taught us about science. We all got to make different colors of slime to bring home. Brigid Reilly, 1st grade

We are busy in the 4th grade but we’re having fun. We are reading The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. It is funny and the Herdmans talk about bad things. They make me laugh. In Social Studies we are starting our Geo questions. They are fun to do and help us learn the states and capitals. We are making a Christmas surprise for our parents but I can’t tell you about it. Nathaniel Shull, 4th gradeArtwork by Nathan Palascak, Lexi Dillon, Ella Droder

and Theresa Hudek.

In Kindergarten we made an Advent chain. We are learning new sight words. I also really like doing morning work!Julia Ridgway, Kindergarten

Mrs. Lecher has been teaching at All Saints for 15 years and this is Mrs. Hinton’s second year at All Saints.Lastly, Mrs. Lecher’s favorite vacation spot is in the Mountains, Grand Tetons and Yellow Stone National Park. Mrs. Hinton’s favorite vacation spot is Siesta Key. We are lucky to have both Mrs. Lecher and Mrs. Hinton at All Saints!

STAFF SPOTLIGHT

Earlier this month, the 1st Grade Daisy Scouts met Specialist Jennifer Hartbarger and First Sergeant Joe Bernet while earning their Considerate and Caring petal. The Daisies learned about the branches of the military, how they work together, and the many different jobs in the military. The Scouts even got to eat MREs and try on gear! The troop also made cards and pictures to send with care packages for troops serving overseas.

COSI on Wheels and Our Young Scientists

COSI was amazing because Matt the instructor was so funny. I really enjoyed the slime center and spending time with friends doing experiments. I like the mystery that we had to solve with the missing slime parts. The station where there were chemicals that blew things up was cool Ryan Dennen, 5th grade

I was so happy that COSI came to All Saints, it was awesome! We got to see lots of cool experiments and even do them! The most experimental part was when we got to make slime. There were so many activities that we can do. For example, we got to turn our letters invisible, look into microscopes, make slime, and lots of other experiments I didn’t mention. We all got to keep our slime that we made so we could take it home and play with it. The most important thing of all was that we had lots and lots of fun.Kelly Wiesman, 4th grade

By: Jack Droder, 3rd grade — Coach Smith and Coach Holekamp’s 3rd grade boys’ basketball team went to Matthew 25: Ministries at the end of November. Matthew 25 helps the very poor and those affected by natural disasters in the U.S. and around the world. Our team decorated Christmas trees with candy. They are going to use them for a fundraiser to raise money to help more people. It was fun to help others!

Rocks Sports Update: Basketball and Compassion

By: Eli Simonovich, 3rd grade — Coach Buckley’s and Coach Kline’s 3rd grade basketball team went to a soup kitchen to help homeless people eat food. At the soup kitchen our basketball team passed out food and drinks. We also passed out dessert. Our basketball team was glad to help homeless people. There are some people who are not as lucky as us and it is important to help them. So far our basketball team holds a 2-0 record and is hoping to win more games in the future.

Awards & Recognition

Reconciliation was really special. I got to go behind the screen and be with Father Bishop and then I got a candle and got a Reconciliation ribbon that said Lord is My Shepherd. We studied for a while in religion class and then we went to Reconciliation. Preparing made me feel a little bit nervous but then when it was time to do it I had a lot of fun. LEGO ROBOTICS CLUB By: Simone Earley-Slack, 7th grade

This was our first year doing The All Saints Lego Robotics Club. We had two teams The Sentinels, mostly 6th graders with a couple 7th graders, and my team 2x4, all 7th graders. We had our regional competition at CHCA High School. The Sentinels got 11th place and the 2x4s got 10th place. 20 teams participated. We also had to find and solve a world problem about water pollution and droughts. We had a lot of fun working together, coding, and solving problems.
