What certificate would our film be?

We had to take into consideration both our

storyline and target audience in order to decide what

certificate our film should be. In order to do this I did some

research into certification. From the 'bbfc' thesis what I

discovered:

What is a 12A film?

12A: Films under this category can contain mature themes, discrimination, soft drugs, infrequent strong language and moderate violence, sex references and nudity. Sexual activity may be briefly and discreetly portrayed. Sexual violence may be implied or briefly indicated.

What is a15 film?

15: Films under this category can contain adult themes, hard drugs, regular use of foul language and limited use of very strong language, strong violence and strong sex references, and nudity without graphic detail. Sexual activity may be portrayed but without any strong detail. Sexual violence may be shown if discreet and justified by context.

What would our film be?

Looking at this I felt our film would fit into the 12A bracket. This is because the film uses no drug, violence or sexual violence references. However in saying this there is discrimination, frequent strong language and also sexual references. It is beneficial to us that our film fits into the bracket of 12A as opposed to 15 as this only broadens our target audience.
