14. Energy efficiency audit report summary
Wexford Creamery were awarded first prize at the 6th annual Sustainable
Energy Awards 2009.
WCLs Energy Team implemented an intensive 10-week energy efficiency
project, working closely with operators and maintenance personnel to carry
out a range of actions including monitoring, energy audits and adjusting
production schedules. Within ten weeks Wexford Creamery reduced usage by
almost 50%.
Project – EASI
In early 2007, Wexford Creamery was the first company in Ireland to install
the Power soft system to monitor all aspects of Energy consumption at the
plant. The objective of Project EASI (Energy Awareness Savings Initiatives)
was to reduce the baseline thermal and electrical consumption. Feasibility
studies were carried out by the Energy team in conjunction with our EMS
system. From the results of the feasibility studies, Project EASI was
implemented over a ten week period in the off-peak season. On Non
Production days, Energy Audits were carried out, engineering solutions to
energy initiatives were completed; all areas were monitored to achieve the
lowest possible usage in each area. Weekly usage reports were circulated
praising good practices but also highlighting problem areas.
The Energy team interacted with operators & maintenance personnel in order
to achieve the best possible results.
Further energy initiatives and internal audits are planned for 2012.
