5. Ensuring that all General Service Equipment is kept in a fully functioning capacity at all times or repaired and returned into services promptly.

* Purpose of Position The overall purpose of the General Services Training & Equipment Officer is to ensure that all staff in the department have the right skills and right equipment to keep the hospital clean. The person in the role is responsible for competency training on all mechanical equipment, cleaning procedures and OH&S legislations in regard to Manual Handling, hand hygiene training, risk assessments and Safe Work practices the equipment maintenance and registration of all equipment.

1. Coordinate the processes associated with the ordering of new and replacement equipment and parts.

2. Conduct Manual Handling Assessments, training and retraining on all equipment used by the General Services Employees Westmead Hospital in accordance with the manufactures guidelines.

3. Maintain Training records for all Employees within Westmead Hospital General Services.

4. This position will also be required to work shift work, after hours and weekends.

* Key Accountabilities

Training & Competency Assessments of all General Services Employees on all equipment used by General Services

Complete Manual Handling assessments on all General Services Employees.

Design in Service training programs in conjunction with the General Services Site Coordinator for General Service’s nominated equipment and topics.

Source new equipment for General Services that increase productivity and reduce the risk of injury.

Assist in the development of measurable Key Performance indicators within the services provided by General Services in consultation with the General Services Site Coordinator.

Formulate new operating procedures/processes for all equipment within General Services in consultation with the General Services Site Coordinator.

Ensure that all equipment operates in a safe manner consistent with operating procedures and Australian Standards.

Evaluate all new equipment to be used by General Services Employees in accordance with the manufactures guidelines.

Provide monthly reports based on Key performance indicators. Familiarity with Hospital Policy (particularly Emergency and

Infection Control) and procedures. Familiarity with Infection Control policy. Providing new Employees with a theoretical explanation of

various departmental procedures. Provide training with new Employees to ensure procedures are

being followed and standards of the department are being maintained.

Ensuring all new Employees attend General Hospital orientation programs.

Working with current staff members to encourage adherence to all Cleaning Services procedures. which includes:

1. Reviewing and monitoring work procedures of current Employees to identify training needs.

2. Providing adequate training, both practical and theoretical, to ensure competency in cleaning procedures.

3. Providing Employees with on-going training, support and education in the departments policies and procedures.

4. Training and Implementation of all policies and procedures throughout the department so that a high quality service is provided to the Hospital.

5. Encouraging Employee development through education of policies.

6. Ensuring that Employees are trained in accordance with the Department of Health and Infection Control Guidelines, and that guidelines are adhered to.

Provide high quality services with limited staffing levels and budget.

Improve the rate of hand hygiene compliance among cleaning staff.

Reduce the spread of hospital acquired infections (e.g. MRSA) through careful Hand Washing, Terminal Cleaning Procedures Bed Discharge cleaning, and general cleaning throughout the Westmead Campus.

Improved use of new cleaning technologies for a quicker, more effective and safer cleaning procedure.

Maintaining an accurate register of equipment in huge campus with multiple storage areas.

Reduce the number of injuries to cleaning staff due to manual handling incidents.

* Purpose of Position 1. The overall purpose of this position is to keep Westmead Hospital clean, with waste removed promptly and free of pests.

2. The person in this role is responsible for day to day management and organization of cleaning, waste and pest control services at Westmead Hospital.

3. The deputy manager will assist and support the Manager, with key involvement in planning, recruitment, managing staff performance, rehabilitation of injured staff, equipment purchases/lease, financial management and industrial relations.

4. The deputy manager will ensure that a high standard of services are maintained using correct procedures, materials and equipment are properly being utilised.

5. The deputy manager will work with the supervisors and team leaders in a collaborative way to ensure that we have the appropriate number the cleaning staff to maintain the cleanliness of the hospital and other buildings

6. Conduct performance appraisals on supervisors, team leaders and frontline cleaning staff.

7. The deputy manager will help to create a positive workplace culture by giving staff generous praise when they have performed well and coach supervisors and leading hands to use this approach with their staff.

8. The deputy manager will relieve the manager in his/her absence. The usual hours of duty will be approximately 8:00 – 16:30 Mon – Fri. However, the Deputy Manager will need to be flexible in hours of work to be available to meet with frontline staff and supervisors during any shift, including weekends.

* Key Accountabilities 1. Provide day to day operational management of the General Services Department.

2. Assist the General Services Manager in ensuring that effective services are delivered efficiently within the allocated budget and resources.

3. Assist the General Services Manager with specific tasks relating to: financial management, performance management of staff, quality improvement and management of contractors.

4. Coordinate cleaning audits, taking action in response to poor results and providing monthly report to manager.

5. Roster control so that right number of staff are allocated to each shift and each area within each shift.

6. Review and implement work schedules for every shift in consultation with supervisors, leading hands and frontline staff.

7. Assist with the selection and appointment of General Services Employees.

8. Provision of information required by manager. 9. Roster annual leave and ADOs to ensure that no staff accumulate

excessive annual leave or ADOs. 10. Sick leave management, including counselling of staff who take

excessive sick leave. 11. Review of applications for other leave (eg carer’s leave). 12. Ensure that effective systems are in place (eg staff training and

availability of suitable equipment) to reduce the risk of staff getting injured or otherwise damaging their health.

13. Conduct and review risk assessments in consultation with other staff and provide recommendations to the manager.

14. Conduct and review safe work practices and ensure they are being followed by staff

15. Trial new equipment in consultation with staff and provide recommendations to the manager.

* Purpose of Position The overall purpose is to maintain a hygienic and safe environment for patients, staff and public who attend Westmead Hospital. The major role of this job is to provide high quality supervision and support to frontline cleaning staff and to team leaders. The supervisor has a major role in allocating staff to clean specific areas on the Westmead Hospital campus. Ensure that cleaning staff have the correct information, equipment and skills to conduct their duties efficiently. Build a culture of exceptional customer service among all team leaders and frontline cleaning staff. Implement a positive coaching model of staff performance management.

Ensure that a high standard of cleaning services using correct procedures, materials and equipment are properly being utilised. The supervisor may occasionally be required to carry out team leader or cleaning tasks during staff shortages or critical situations. The Supervisor will be required to work rotating shifts.

* Key Accountabilities 1. The supervisor provides direct management of team leaders and

frontline cleaning staff. 2. Ensure that services are delivered in cost effective manner and report

any wastage or inefficiencies. 3. Allocate work to staff fairly, and ensuring that services are performed

to a high standard and timely manner. 4. Attend and actively participate in staff and management meetings. 5. Issue, collect, and securely store keys and other security devices. 6. Control the distribution and usage of cleaning materials, minimizing

waste, and maintaining adequate supplies in conjunction with General Services store person.

7. Maintain an inventory of machinery and equipment. 8. Ensure faulty or missing machinery and equipment is reported

punctually. 9. Cooperate with heads of departments and clinical staff to deal with

day to day service requirements in the facility. 10. Achieve high cleaning standards across the campus, with a focus on

high risk and public areas. 11. Ensure that staff follow correct safe work practices. 12. Ensure that staff work in a safe manner and implement effective

systems of work safety to prevent staff injuring themselves or others. 13. Investigate and report staff injuries and near misses on the IIMS

program via intranet. 14. Ensure that staff follow rehabilitation plans. 15. Monitor and improve the performance of staff, through positive

feedback to staff performing well and additional support and training to staff who are under-performing

16. Monitor and report on staff attendance, sick leave management, annual leave management and any other forms of leave management.

17. Conduct performance appraisals, 3 monthly for new staff and annually thereafter.

18. Directly monitor work performance for all staff under Supervisor’s responsibility.

19. Provide names of those staff that need further training. 20. Provide practical staff training in cleaning, waste removal and safe

use of equipment. 21. Support the General Services Training Officer by assisting to conduct

staff training. 22. Attend relevant training programs that are beneficial to a Supervisor’s

position. 23. Arrange and conduct staff meetings. 24. Provide recommendations for staff awards to the Deputy Manager. 25. Review team leader reports and take necessary action. 26. The supervisor will sometimes be required to carry out frontline

cleaning and waste removal tasks. 27. Undertake any other reasonable request as directed by the General

Services Manager, Deputy Manager, or other person in authority.

* Purpose of Position The overall purpose is to maintain a hygienic and safe environment for patients, staff and public who attend Westmead Hospital. The person in this position has a dual function: to provide supervision to cleaning staff and to carry out cleaning tasks.

The Team Leader many work any shift: 7 days per week, 24 hours per day.

* Key Accountabilities The team leader will spend most time (approx. 60%) providing frontline cleaning duties - see job description for Cleaner (Hospital Assistant Grade 2). The team leader will spend approx. 40% of their time on supervision and related tasks. The relative proportions of time spent on cleaning will depend on the specific requirements on each shift, but the time on each shift spent on frontline cleaning should not be less than 50%. Supervision and related tasks include: 1. Conduct Cleaning audit inspections. 2. Supervise staff in areas of responsibility 3. Monitor, organise and execute detailed cleaning program to ensure

that areas of responsibilities are maintained. 4. Submit a daily Team Leader report to the Supervisor/Deputy

Manager. 5. Issue cleaning materials and stock to allow staff to do their work

effectively, but without wastage. 6. Keep inventory of stores issued. 7. Allocate machinery and equipment to staff and ensure they are

signed out in good condition and returned in good condition. 8. Report unserviceable equipment or faulty materials immediately. 9. Ensure equipment is cleaned and serviced as required. 10. Monitor and collect sharps containers on a daily basis. 11. Remove replace and or wash shower curtains in conjunction to the

Infection control process. 12. Change patient bed screens as required and record accordingly. 13. Recommend to Supervisor/Deputy Manager any opportunities for

changes to work practices to improve efficiency. 14. Ensure that all staff were correct uniform, that ID badges are

displayed and all staff are behaving within the Code of Conduct. 15. Report any staff misconduct to the Manager. 16. Conduct or participate in performance appraisals of frontline staff

when required. 17. Provide recommendations for staff awards to the Supervisor or

Deputy Manager. 18. Team leaders can be rotated between shifts if required within the

appropriate notice given. 19. Undertake any other reasonable request as directed by supervisor or

other person in authority.
