Hands-On: Advanced Hard and Soft Tissue Augmentation Around Implants PROF DANIELE CARDAROPOLI, DDSCourse Description:Severe horizontal and vertical bone resorptions require lateral and supracrestal regeneration, a challenge for clinicians since the external soft tissue pressure is considered to be a major reason for failure of the surgical procedure in non-spacemaking bone defects. Guided bone regeneration using membranes and bone grafts has been proposed for horizontal and vertical bone augmentation. Customized titanium mesh seems to be a reliable alternative able to re-duce the morbidity. Once hard tissue has been successfully augmented, an adequate soft tis-sue thickness becomes mandatory in order to create healthy and stable peri-implant tissues.Learning Objectives:• Learn the biology and the surgical principles of horizontal and vertical ridge augmentation• Learn the selection criteria for membranes, titanium mesh, autogenous bone and biomaterials.• Learn the technique for soft tissue augmentation using CTG or collagen matrix

Don’t Fly Blind: Periodontal Endoscopy in the Modern Dental PracticeNICOLE FORTUNE, MBA, RDHCourse Description: This course demonstrates the role of periodontal endoscopy and its benefits. Participants will analyze the processes and results of tra-

ditional pocket reduction surgery compared to non-surgical endoscope treatment. We will ex-plore advanced diagnostics via magnified sub-gingival visualization which allows clinicians to identify periodontal and peri-implant etiologies and potential complications with healing. Explore adjunctive therapies - such as lasers and enamel matrix protein - that create an ideal environment for gingival attachment and in some cases, bone regeneration.Learning Objectives: • Understand why periodontal endoscopy is the standard of care for treatment of moderate to advanced periodontal and peri-implant diseases. • Recognize the conditions under which periodontal endoscopy is ideally utilized and when regenerative surgery is indicated.• Discuss the use of treatment aids (such as lasers) to enhance clinical results. • Analyze the use of the periodontal endoscope as a diagnostic tool. • Discover methods for increasing production by retaining more periodontal cases in-house

Learning Objectives: • Recognize at risk populations• Understand what makes these populations at risk• Create intervention protocols to screen these populations

Maxillary Arch Implant Rehabilitation: A Restorative PerspectiveANTOANELA GARBACEA, DDS MSD FACP FAAIDCourse Description:Prosthetic reconstruction of the edentulous maxilla is recognized to be challenging and requires detailed data collection and planning.

Understanding the esthetic and structural risk factors based on lip dynamics and prosthetic space availability will improve favorable outcome predictability in complex situations. This presentation will identify the optimal prosthetic design and will provide a patient specific assessment guide regarding treatment planning of the edentulous maxilla for fixed or re-movable implant supported prostheses. The interdisciplinary team will be provided a specific guidelines to identify the patient condition and the potential solutions. Learning Objectives:• Understand significance of the preoperative evaluation of the patient’s existing condition prior to planning comprehensive treatment. • Choose conservative treatment options based on the patient’s specific anatomical characteristics, bone resorption pattern, optimal prosthetic emergence profile, and the significance of the prosthesis for facial and dental esthetics. • Updates on complete arch analog versus digital impressions. • Recognize the esthetic, biological and structural limitation that can lead to irreversible failure

Getting Better Case AcceptanceTODD GOLDMANCourse Description:Sales are easily won and lost based on the conversations you and your sellers have with your patients. The common thought process is that sellers make mistakes along the way – but that is too easy to diagnose. More often mistakes are made before the sales process

really starts. How much do you know about your patients? How much time do you actually spend getting to understand what your patient really wants? And are you leaving the most crucial aspect, THE CLOSE, to people who have never even been trained to sell…or who may not even like to sell. Patients aren’t like they were 20, 30 or even 10 years ago. They are wiser and more educated. The days of blind treatment acceptance from an expert in a white lab coat are long gone. So even after putting in place a great marketing campaign, a gorgeous and informative website, do you still find that you may not be converting as many treatment plans as you hoped?Learning Objectives:• Learn the steps, strategies and tactics that are the foundation of successful selling• Learn the key selling skills your dental team needs to get more patient compliance and treatment acceptance

Osseodensification: Optimize theSite-Optimize the Outcome SALAH HUWAIS, DDSCourse Description:Osseodensification, an evidence-based approach to osteotomy preparation that enhances implant stability and bone density

without compromising healing. This lecture will present the biomechanical, histological healing timeline, and clinical data of Osseodensification. Etiology and Clinical Management of Surgical Complications Related to Implant ProceduresTHOMAS G. WIEDEMANN, MD, PHD, DDS

Course Description:Despite the well documented high predictability, long-term and high success rate of dental implants, complications and failures do occur on a regular basis. The demand for implant therapy has fueled growth of the industry. Now many clinicians offer implants as a solution to partial and complete edentulism and the procedures are no longer limited to specialists. Problems with implants have been rising as more clinicians who do not have advanced training and skills are involved in implant placement and implant-related restorations. Some complications may be relatively minor and easy to correct, while others will be more significant and result in implant loss, permanent damage of adjacent anatomical structures or even be life-threatening. Considering the number of implants placed or projected to be placed in the United States alone and it is estimated that more than one million implants will require some type of corrective or revision therapy as a result of implant and bone graft related complications. This lecture will present a wide range of clinical situations and cases as a well as a review of the literature in order to have an overview on the causes of implant failures, typical intra- and postoper-ative complications with severe adverse outcomes leading to medical emergencies with potentially life-threatening complication requiring intubation, emergency tracheostomy or intensive care hospitalization.Learning Objectives: • Assess, anticipate and manage common complications associated with implant procedures• Reinforce awareness that even simple implant procedures are invasive in nature and can trigger extremely serious and life-threatening complications• Understand that oral surgeons and dentists, no matter how skilled and experienced in implant surgery, must be at all times aware of even rare, unexpected and severe complications, in order to promptly plan an adequate emergency intervention.

Advancements in Periodontal &Peri-Implant Plastic SurgeryHOMA H. ZADEH, DDS, PHDCourse Description: Periodontal and peri-implant soft tissue deficiencies are of-

ten first noted, because of compromised esthetics. However, mucosal deficiencies are also associated with progressive periodontal and peri-implant attachment loss. Periodontal plastic surgical approaches have aimed to address periodontal soft tissue deficiencies that pose esthetic and functional concerns. Similarly, peri-im-plant soft tissue regeneration is often necessitated for enhancement of esthetic and functional stability of peri-implant tissues. One of the major objectives of periodontal and peri-implant plastic surgery is to treat gingival/mucosal recession defects, through an array of classic and novel approaches. The application of Ves-tibular Incision Subperiosteal Tunnel Access (VISTA) technique for periodontal and peri-implant soft tissue regeneration will be discussed. The expanded application of VISTA for periodontal and peri-implant GTR will be introduced. This presen-tation will review the risk factors that influence disease progression and predict therapeutic outcomes. The rationale, scientific evidence and material selection for various therapeutic approaches will be discussed. Learning Objectives: • Risk assessment to identify patients and sites at risk, requiring treatment• The rationale and protocol for VISTA to regenerate periodontal and peri-implant tissues• Selection of appropriate material: connective tissue (palate and tuberosity), acellular dermis allograft, collagen matrix xenograft and platelet-fibrin concentrates.

Saving Teeth Through Endodontic Therapy – What are the Outcomes and What is the Evidence?STEFAN ZWEIG, DDS, FACDCourse Descripiton: The decision as to whether to incorporate an endodontically treated tooth in a periodontal/restorative treatment plan is

often difficult. The availability of other successful treatment alternatives (dental implants) further complicates the issue. Yet, the retention of the natural denti-

tion has many benefits for the patient. Endodontic success rates are high given new technologies and treatment modalities but is undeniably tied to restorative and periodontal factors. This lecture will focus on the evidence that endodontic therapy (initial therapy, retreatment, and surgical procedures) is still a viable and successful alternative in saving teeth which can be strategically used in restorative treatment plan. The prognosis for endodontically treated teeth will be considered.Learning Objectives:• Learn the success rates of the various endodontic modalities.• Learn the application and viability of applying these modalities clinically.• Learn guidelines as to when and when not to rely on endodontically treated teeth based on their strategic value in the treatment plan and their prognosis.

Achieving Patient Compliance in Home Care HEATHER KELLEY, RDH, MSDHCourse Description: Achieving optimal oral health for our periodontally involved patients is not just the practitioner’s job, but we must also depend on our patient’s oral home care routines and compliance. This course will discuss strategies for deciding continuing care intervals based on utilizing assessments

appropriately, considering the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) guidelines of peri-odontal classification, and understanding the microbiome of the oral cavity. After we have decided how often we will see our patients, how will we achieve patient compliance? Next we will discuss oral hygiene instruction related to how we administer the instruction, how the patient retains the information, and how we document. It makes a difference. Lastly, not every patient is the same, so we must tailor the home care regimen recommendations. Based on research and specific patient needs, we will discuss what types of modalities to recommend. Learning Objectives:• Identify appropriate continuing care intervals • Strategize an effective approach to professional oral hygiene instruction• Deliver individualized home care recommendations based on patient needs

Understanding Platelet Rich Fibrin: FromBiological Background to Clinical IndicationsRICHARD J. MIRON, DDS, BMSC, MSC, PHD, DMD Course Description: The use of platelet concentrates has had a long-history of use in various fields of medicine as an autologous source of growth

factors fabricated utilizing centrifugation of blood under various conditions. While plate-let rich plasma (PRP) was proposed as a first-generation platelet concentrate over 3 de-cades ago, over the past 10 years, platelet rich fibrin (PRF) has seen a steady increase in utilization for a variety of medical procedures due to its lack of anti-coagulation factors favoring fibrin clot formation and faster wound healing. More recently, the development of a liquid PRF pro-vides a new formulation of liquid PRF without using anti-coagulation factors that may specifically be combined with currently available bone biomaterials favoring particle stability, angiogenesis and tis-sue integration. This talk aims to highlight the recent advancements made with respect to the newest formulations of platelet concentrates including recent developments in horizontal centrifugation and liquid concentrated-PRF to further speed wound healing and tissue regeneration for various clinical indications faced in routine daily dental practice.Learning Objectives:• Provide the biological background and scientific rationale for why platelet concentrates speed wound healing• Introduce new protocols using horizontal centrifugation• Provide clinical indications when, where and why to use PRF (membranes and liquid) in regenerative dentistry and facial esthetics.

Why I Am Ditching My Scaler andGoing with the “Flow” MICHELLE STRANGE, RDH, BHS, MSDHCourse Description: Dentistry has a reputation for being slow to progress and implement new behavior and technology. The art of putting a scaler to the tooth without causing harm to the patient, all while having excellent ergonomics as a

clinician, was drilled into every student’s head. If you graduated one year ago, five, ten, or even 20 years ago, chances are high that scaling teeth was the number one priority in your education. But, what about biofilm, the cause of so many oral diseases? Will a scaler help manage that effectively? If biofilm management is the name of the game, is it time to reassess our prevention strategies and treatment protocols? During this presentation, we will discuss new methodologies for biofilm man-agement and disease prevention, how to manage the aerosols created during these new procedures, and how technology like the AirFlow Prophylaxis Master can help with ergonomic challenges and injuries as a dental hygienist. Learning Objectives: • Identify minimally invasive techniques to manage dental biofilm• Describe the aerosol challenges of new technologies for biofilm management• Implement ways to manage aerosols and decrease the ergonomic challenges for clinicians
