~ MINUTES OF WSATVA MEETING ~ July 17, 2019

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: Led by Paul Popish.

GUESTS & NEW MEMBERS: The meeting was called to order by President Steve Chapel. Guests & New Members: We welcome Ruxton Noble from the BLM. The Minutes for June stand as printed unless there are corrections.

Steve Chapel expressed the Clubs’ appreciation to the cooks!

TREASURER’S REPORT: Conrad Tucker gave the Treasurers Report listing checkbook balances since June 2019.

SARC: Chris Jackson gave details on a callout to De Beque that resulted in a call-back because the affected persons rescued themselves.

TRAILS: Tom Derryberry expressed ‘Thanks’ for all the work at Vega. Tom further stated that care needs to be taken riding trails as some of them have ruts that are quite deep and can pose a hazard to riders.

Remember to turn in the hours you spend picking up trash to either Tom or Steve Chapel.

Steve Chapel introduced Dani Cook, Trail Crew Foreman for the Forest Service. Dani took over Chris Foreman’s position when he retired.

Dani gave a report on Forest Service activities: On the Uncompahgre the Little Johnson Trail work is completed along with Mail Box and Rocky Pitch Trails.

Dani finished her remarks stating that Aug. 9th will be the annual ‘Stay the Trail’ commemoration.

Steve Chapel commented on Vega: Wednesday saw the largest number of volunteers at 30! There was just enough rain to keep the dust down. Club members found a Can Am SXS on its side and put it back on its wheels. Later it was learned that the occupants had ‘walked out’ 5 ½ miles until someone found them and took them to help.

LAS COLONIAS AMPHITHEATER PARKING ASSISTANCE NEEDED

The money we receive from working these events pay for the annual Christmas Party!

https://www.songkick.com/venues/3798114-las-colonias-park-amphitheater August 9~Travis Tritt, The Charlie Daniels Band and Love and Theft

Travis Tritt, Charlie Daniels, and Love and Theft take the stage at the Amp on August 9th.

August 16~Felix Cavaliere’s Rascals https://www.facebook.com/events/369233440378692/ In the mid-1960’s, classically-trained pianist and vocalist Felix Cavaliere quickly rose to the top as his band The Rascals produced hit after hit, their pioneering rock-driven sound influenced by music heard in the Bronx standing out from the pop of the British Invasion bands. Armed with a Hammond B-3 organ and a distinct blue-eyed soul voice, hits like “Good Lovin’” and R&B-influenced “Groovin’”made The Rascals one of the most popular bands of the time; that popularity continues on through the decades, and culminated in Steven Van Zandt inducting them into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997.

Never one to shy from sharing their beliefs, The Rascals gained their biggest hit with the politically-charged “People Got To Be Free,” a song pleading for tolerance and freedom for all that is relevant even today. Even covers of their songs like Grateful Dead’s “Good Lovin’” and Pat Benatar’s rendition of “You Better Run” have become hits; the strength of the music really shows in its ability to continue bringing new audiences in decades later. After The Rascals dissolved, Felix went on to record multiple highly acclaimed solo albums, toured with Ringo Starr’s Third All-Starr Band, and continues to write music as part of the active Nashville songwriting community. He is currently on tour with Felix Cavaliere’s Rascals. Doors open at 6:30 | Show begins at 7:30 PM Tickets go on sale Friday, June 7th at 10 AM

September 27 ~ Sawyer Brown Dust off your boots! Sawyer Brown will be live in concert at the Amp this September 27th. Doors 6:30 PM Show 7:30 PM Tickets are $19/$29/$49 (plus fees)

September 28 ~ Get the Led Out: A Celebration of “The Mighty Zep” https://www.facebook.com/events/2294678674127654/

From the bombastic and epic, to the folky and mystical, Get The Led Out (GTLO) have captured the essence of the recorded music of Led Zeppelin and brought it to the concert stage. The Philadelphia-based group consists of six veteran musicians intent on delivering Led Zeppelin live, like you’ve never heard before. Utilizing the multi-instrumentalists at their disposal, GTLO re-create the songs in all their depth and glory with the studio overdubs that Zeppelin themselves never performed. When you hear three guitars on the album…GTLO delivers three guitarists on stage. No wigs or fake English accents, GTLO brings what the audience wants…a high energy Zeppelin concert with an honest, heart-thumping intensity. Dubbed by the media as "The American Led Zeppelin," Get The Led Out offers a strong focus on the early years. They also touch on the deeper cuts that were seldom, if ever heard in concert. GTLO also include a special “acoustic set” with Zep favorites such as “Tangerine” and the “Battle of Evermore” being performed in its’ original instrumentation with guest singer Diana DeSantis joining the band. Ticket prices are $25, $35, and VIP $55 (plus fees) and are on sale now!

October 12~Oktoberfest 2019 https://www.facebook.com/events/387043795229514/ 2019's Oktoberfest Amped is going to be the most German one yet! Our 3rd Annual event will feature Blasorchester TSV Blau Weiss Melchoirshausen, who are coming from Germany to help us celebrate in style!

ALL RIDES ~ NO WORK!

Again this summer we will have multiple days of rides from the Hightower area with no work days involved. Also again, we will have several people from the Denver area Colorado Quad Runners join us in camping at the Hightower Power-line Camp area. The plan is to keep group sizes to around 8 machines.

If we have more than that wanting to go to the same place we will stagger two groups 20-30 minutes apart & attempt to meet up for lunch.

We need people to lead some rides so we can go to multiple rides each day. You can camp or come up by the day, either way rides should be departing around 9 am each morning. Most of these rides will be on 50 inch trails, as that is the main attraction for the Denver group coming over. There is no guarantee that a ride will be available for machines over 50" wide. If there is interest from some over 50" owners and we know that ahead of time we can show you where to ride and turn you loose there. In reality there is probably two days of riding for wider side by sides in that area. This will begin on Wednesday August 21st, (club meeting day), and conclude on Sunday August 25th. We will provide updates on this monthly.
