Weekly Sports Wrap

Rugby This past week our boys returned from a nice long holiday. They were all excited to get back into playing rugby on Saturdays. The coaches did not have many practices to prepare the boys for their matches, but they did a sterling job. Last Saturday’s clash was against RBPS. It was a wet affair, but the boys managed to shake the rust off and played some attractive rugby, also showing a lot of dedication and commitment. I had the pleasure of reffing the U12A match. What an exciting and closely contested match it was. We look forward to next Saturday's rugby fixtures against SACS away. This will be a tough day and will certainly test our boys physicality again.

Hockey Last week the hockey boys encountered very tough opposition in RBPS. The lack of practice, and matches played on the first day back at school took their toll as many of our teams took time to get into their rhythm from last term. The 1

st XI enjoyed a great

game, dictating much of the play throughout the game. A lapse in concentration allowed RBPS to score the only goal of the game. Despite some last minute attacks, our boys were unable to equalise, going down by the single goal. The U12A team played well to secure the draw. The juniors fared well with draws for the U11A, as well as the U10A and B teams. The lower teams unfortunately suffered losses in all of their games.

Squash On Friday 19 July three squash leagues team matches were played against various teams. 2

nd Team vs Llandudno (won 7 - 5)

3rd

Team vs RBPS (lost 4 – 8) 4

th Team vs Shoestring (lost 4 - 5)

These were all closely contested matches although the results were not favourable, it’s a positive start to build on for next week matches. Reminder that practises will take place with Mr Lesoro in the afternoon. Boys are asked to check practise times and team fixtures by Thursday for Friday matches.

Cross Country We will be running at Paul Greyling today. Boys need to be there at 15.00.The Turck Memorial Run is a very important race for those runners wanting to progress. Boys who run this race and qualify, may be invited for the ZONAL Champs! Good luck!

One-to-One For the past 33 years, the service communities of Cape Town have come together to convene a unique day of fun, laughter and excitement, exclusively for approximately 3,500 guests with special needs. They, and other sponsors, are responsible for the considerable costs involved. ONE-TO-ONE takes the form of a fun fair, with all the delights normally associated with this type of event, including live entertainment. The guests are accompanied by their “friend for the day”. These friends are all volunteer members of the public, who come from all walks of life. A wonderful feature of the day is that it has proved how naturally citizens, from all parts of our city, interact with each other for the benefit of those less fortunate. ONE-TO-ONE is unique to Cape Town and South Africa. There is no other event which hosts this number of people and involves so many diverse organisations, schools, student and social groups. The focus is solely on the entertainment of the less-abled folk of our city.
