Location and DirectionsWester Dunsyston is a secluded yet accessible woodland located approximately 3 miles southeast of Airdrie and can be accessed via both the private road leading to Wester Dunsyston Farm and a newly constructed access directly off Craigens Road (see Location Plan). The grid reference of the main access to the property is NS 803 632.

AccessHistorical access has been taken off the private road leading to Wester Dunsyston Farm, however a new tarmac bell-mouth access was constructed directly off Craigens Road prior to recent thinning operations for timber haulage purposes. The original access via Wester Dunsyston is subject to maintenance on an according to user basis with a condition that the forest owner does not need to maintain the road to a standard higher than that required for forestry

purposes.

DescriptionThe forest occupies an easily worked, gently sloping hill with a southerly aspect. The crops were predominantly established in 1996, with small areas predating this. Wester Dunsyston benefits from a newly upgraded tarmac bell-mouth, double barrier gates and a turning and stacking area constructed to facilitate a recent thinning programme.

Approximately 20.54ha is stocked with Sitka spruce dominated commercial conifers, which have benefitted from a recent thinning programme. The commercial crops have generally good form and stocking densities and high growth rates. In addition to the productive conifers the property has attractive stands of older Scots pine and broadleaves as well as mixed woodlands, attractive sweeping rides and views over Central Scotland.

Located to the north of the public road is a small area of attractive native woodland extending to approximately 1.78ha. This area forms Lot 2 and will appeal to anyone seeking a quiet, secluded area of native woodland rich in ferns and other flora.
