• The Internet has grown fast than all other technologies that have proceeded it!!!!

• Currently there are over 150,000,000 people that use the Internet

• Over half of the user are in the United States– 1993 US had 90,000 users– 1999 US had 118,000,000 users

• The Internet has penetrated to about 40% of the adult US population

• Austin is one of five cities that has reached

50% usage

• Expected to grow to 63% by 2005

• Teens use the Internet an average of 10.3 hours

• There is no one company or law enforcement agency that can monitor the Internet

• The Internet has allowed easier access to children

• Pedophiles have a support group

• Vice unit handled this case prior to 1998

• 1998 APD had a re-organization

• Exploitation cases including the Internet were split up with three units:– Major Crimes Task Force– Hi-Tech– Child Abuse
