West Nyack Free Library Winter 2017 A Note from the Circulation Desk: Each season has its own charm at the library and winter is no exception. It’s a time to prepare for the holidays and to visit with family and friends. Prepare a feast with one of our new cookbooks, such as Scratch by Maria Rodale or Cooking for Jeffrey by Ina Garten. Parties can have that extra dazzle with music downloaded through Freegal and gifts and decorations created from a couple of our new craft books: Cold Weather Crochet, The Flower Workshop, and the CATastic Crafts. Our library is an exciting resource to make the cold weather months cheerful and festive. Dina Reisman, Head of Circulation Letter from the Board of Trustees: October 2019 will mark our 60th anniversary as an important and vital community resource. In recognizing the challenges of meeting library patron needs in an ever changing environment, we began a Strategic Planning process to plot our course for the next five years. We sought to examine and make informed projections about the West Nyack Free Library’s need to anticipate and respond to change by clarifying its mission and goals; targeting spending; and reshaping its programs and other aspects of operations. We hope to more clearly focus on long-range objectives and envision meaningful improvements in effectiveness, value, and relevance. Our survey of Patrons, Staff, and Trustees provided us with a comprehensive assessment of the West Nyack Free Library’s strengths and limitations. We recognize that we cannot be everything to everyone. So we took a serious look in the mirror. Identifying our unique strengths and recognizing our limitations enables us to pinpoint new opportunities for fulfilling our mission. With the Board and Staff committed to its implementation, this Strategic Plan can provide an invaluable blueprint for growth and revitalization as an organization. It is our GPS on where the West Nyack Free Library stands in the course to get there. As a Board we are committed to the spirit of learning and discovery that the West Nyack Free Library offers. With the Strategic Plan we can assure you that the West Nyack Free Library will continue to be the place where people go to read, discover, connect and thrive for many more decades to come. The West Nyack Free Library Board of Trustees Gifts and Donations: From Ann & Kurt Mohr, Three Little Words for the Children’s Room collection in honor of the birth of Kelsey Ryan Diercksen. A Collaborative Project of Students of the Pascack Learning Center, Surviving Sandy for the Adult Room collection. A Special Thank You from the Friends of the West Nyack Free Library! The Friends of the West Nyack Free Library would like to thank everyone who supported our successful Community Garage Sale this fall. We were able to raise $1,468.50. These funds will go towards ongoing programming and the Friends Scholarship Fund.

West Nyack Free Library Winter 2017

A Note from the Circulation Desk:

Each season has its own charm at the library and

winter is no exception. It’s a time to prepare for

the holidays and to visit with family and friends.

Prepare a feast with one of our new cookbooks, such

as Scratch by Maria Rodale or Cooking for Jeffrey

by Ina Garten. Parties can have that extra dazzle

with music downloaded through Freegal and gifts

and decorations created from a couple of our new

craft books: Cold Weather Crochet, The Flower

Workshop, and the CATastic Crafts. Our library is

an exciting resource to make the cold weather

months cheerful and festive.

Dina Reisman, Head of Circulation

Letter from the Board of Trustees:

October 2019 will mark our 60th anniversary

as an important and vital community resource. In

recognizing the challenges of meeting library

patron needs in an ever changing environment, we

began a Strategic Planning process to plot our

course for the next five years. We sought to

examine and make informed projections about the

West Nyack Free Library’s need to anticipate and

respond to change by clarifying its mission and

goals; targeting spending; and reshaping its

programs and other aspects of operations. We hope

to more clearly focus on long-range objectives and

envision meaningful improvements in effectiveness,

value, and relevance.

Our survey of Patrons, Staff, and Trustees provided

us with a comprehensive assessment of the West

Nyack Free Library’s strengths and limitations. We

recognize that we cannot be everything to everyone.

So we took a serious look in the mirror.

Identifying our unique strengths and recognizing our

limitations enables us to pinpoint new opportunities

for fulfilling our mission. With the Board and Staff

committed to its implementation, this Strategic Plan

can provide an invaluable blueprint for growth and

revitalization as an organization. It is our GPS on

where the West Nyack Free Library stands in the

course to get there. As a Board we are committed to

the spirit of learning and discovery that the West

Nyack Free Library offers. With the Strategic Plan

we can assure you that the

West Nyack Free Library

will continue to be the place

where people go to read,

discover, connect and thrive

for many more decades to

come.

The West Nyack Free Library Board of Trustees

Gifts and Donations:

From Ann & Kurt Mohr, Three Little

Words for the Children’s Room collection

in honor of the birth of Kelsey Ryan

Diercksen.

A Collaborative Project of Students of the

Pascack Learning Center, Surviving Sandy

for the Adult Room collection.

A Special Thank You from the Friends

of the West Nyack Free Library!

The Friends of the West Nyack Free

Library would like to thank everyone who

supported our successful Community Garage

Sale this fall. We were able to raise $1,468.50.

These funds will go towards ongoing

programming and the Friends

Scholarship Fund.

Weather conditions may require a delayed

opening or an unscheduled closing of the

library. Safety is our primary consideration.

If the Clarkstown Central School District has

a snow closing *or* delay the library has an

automatic one hour delay and will open at

10:30am. Further delays or decisions to close

early are made on a case by case basis. All

delays and early closings are listed on the

library’s website, cancellations.com, and our

phone message system. Library programs may

be cancelled depending on the circumstances

and it is best to call the library to confirm if

poor weather is predicted.
