Wembley Primary School NEWSLETTER No. 7 - 20 May, 2020 From the Principals Remote and Flexible Learning At the beginning of our transition to remote and flexible learning, we said, “we are all in this together, mistakes will be made but we will endeavour to make the best experience possible given the circumstances”. As we now look towards returning to face-face-teaching and reflect on our period of remote and flexible learning, we think that we can truly say we delivered, plus some. This period of remote and flexible learning has taken many, if not all, of us out of our comfort zone, presented us with new challenges and required us to work in different ways. We are very proud of the way staff, students and parents have adapted to this new environment and we would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and thank all for their efforts: The Executive Leadership Team – the engine room of strategic thinking, planning, communication and support – an amazing effort by all. Teachers – the conduit between school and home, amazing videos, planning and feedback, meaningful tasks, on-site supervision and supporting students through what has been a challenging time for all. And let us not forget their support for one another. Education Support Staff (Classrooms) – mastering the ICT, staying connected with their students and supporting them with their learning. Education Support Staff (office) – answering the phone, dealing with parent requests, calming the waters when required and being there to provide advice and support for all. Thanks for being there! Education Support Staff (ICT) - what a herculean effort this has been in supporting all of us to transition to working and learning online and dealing with many (hundreds) of requests for support associated with hardware and software. Students – for the way they have adapted to their new learning environment, engaged with the learning and stayed connected with school. Well done to all the students. Parents – what can we say – you have been amazing in supporting, encouraging (and maybe cajoled on occasions) your children with their learning and emotional wellbeing etc, etc, etc. Also, for the feedback and support throughout the term. Upcoming dates: Monday 25 May Curriculum Day Tuesday 26 May Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 students return to Onsite Schooling Monday 8 June Queen’s Birthday Public Holiday Tuesday 9 June Year 3 - Year 6 return to Onsite Schooling

  • Wembley Primary School   NEWSLETTER No. 7 - 20 May, 2020

    From the Principals

Remote and Flexible Learning At the beginning of our transition to remote and flexible learning, we said, “we are all in this together, mistakes will be made but we will endeavour to make the best experience possible given the circumstances”. We are very proud of the way staff, students and parents have adapted to this new environment and we would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and thank all for their efforts:

    ● The Executive Leadership Team – the engine room of strategic thinking, planning, communication and support – an amazing effort by all.

    ● Teachers – the conduit between school and home, amazing videos, planning and feedback, meaningful tasks, on-site supervision and supporting students through what has been a challenging time for all. And let us not forget their support for one another.

    ● Education Support Staff (Classrooms) – mastering the ICT, staying connected with their students and supporting them with their learning.

    ● Education Support Staff (office) – answering the phone, dealing with parent requests, calming the waters when required and being there to provide advice and support for all. Thanks for being there!

    ● Education Support Staff (ICT) - what a herculean effort this has been in supporting all of us to transition to working and learning online and dealing with many (hundreds) of requests for support associated with hardware and software.

    ● Students – for the way they have adapted to their new learning environment, engaged with the learning and stayed connected with school. Well done to all the students.

    ● Parents – what can we say – you have been amazing in supporting, encouraging (and maybe cajoled on occasions) your children with their learning and emotional wellbeing etc, etc, etc.

We are so proud of our Wembley community and the way we have embraced the complexity associated with remote and flexible learning.  Return to Face-to-Face Teaching (From DET document) As you are aware, following advice from the Victorian Government on Tuesday 12 May, some students will be returning to school from Tuesday 26 May. The Victorian Chief Health Officer has advised that it is safe for students and teachers to return in a two-staged approach:  Stage 1 – from Tuesday 26 May: Early years students (Prep to Year 2) will return to on-site schooling. All staff will attend on-site.  Stage 2 – from Tuesday 9 June: Year 3 to Year 6 students will return to on-site schooling, subject to health advice.  The Department’s latest advice on coronavirus can be found at www.education.vic.gov.au/coronavirus   It is important that we work together and support each other during this challenging time. We are finalising the ‘Return to Face-to-Face Teaching Policy’ and procedures, and we will be sharing this information to our community on Friday 22 May.   Student Wellbeing Check-In Survey We would like to ask all students to complete this survey about their experience of home learning, and how they are feeling about returning to school. Their feedback and reflections will help us to plan the learning and return to school experience. Please complete this by Monday 25 May at 9:30am. https://forms.gle/jkeG4cvzJ8tbehEG6  Prep Enrolments 2021 Thank you to all parents who have already enrolled their child/ren for the 2021 school year. If you have not already done so, I would encourage you to complete the enrolment form and return it as soon as possible. This will help us with our planning for the new school year. Enrolment forms can be printed from the school’s website.  Muir Street Overpass Closed – Westgate Tunnel Project (Attachment attached) Please see information regarding removal of the existing pedestrian overpass which connects Muir Street and Fogarty Avenue.  Wellbeing at Wembley Wellbeing is a core goal in our School Strategic Plan, which will be explored in learning programs throughout the next four years at Wembley PS. As such, we will include a Wellbeing piece in our fortnightly school newsletter from now on. The first piece is about ‘Mindfulness’ and contains information to assist parents in supporting their child/ren’s wellbeing and learning. The tips and supports endure beyond the remote and flexible learning timeframe. Please see the information below that we have created utilising information from ‘Smiling Minds’ who we have partnered with.
